I'm a nurse (or more properly, veterinary technician - albeit unlicensed) at a large emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. I work in the internal medicine/critical care department. I like my job, but all in all I'd prefer to work in emergency medicine. Working with the hospitalized patients is mostly a lot of details and paperwork and poop. I miss the adrenaline rush of emergency!

I'm also in school finishing my pre-vet coursework.

I do tech support and customer service for an entertainment company that provides a service that some of you probably use.

I don't really care for it, but it keeps the boys in food, litter, toys and treats. I make less than a third of what hubby makes as an engineer and I supplement his income.

I want to go to school to be a social worker (BSW, then eventually MSW), but I'm feeling so discouraged right now, unsure if I'll ever be able to afford school (hubby doesn't want to pay for it and he makes too much for me to qualify for financial aid).

Also, having been out of high school for almost ten years, and having only made lackluster grades back then, so I'm not sure if any college would accept me. I'll probably have to go to a two year school first and then transfer to a four year institution.

Right now I am a Case Specialist for Child Support. After I have worked there for a year, they will pay for me to go back to school. I want to be a Forensics Scientist.

I'm a lab tech in an immunology lab. We don't do any real research ourselves, but we support others who are doing research. We provide them with immunology-related services.

If that's what it takes, and that's what you want to do, all that is really left to decide is if it's worth it.

I am uncertain of how to respond to "hubby doesn't want to pay for it and he makes too much for me to qualify for financial aid" - that doesn't sound like "he would dearly love to, but we know that we couldn't afford it" or something similar. I would caution some thought on this matter; instinct suggests to me that he should at least want to help you follow your dreams.

I'm the Office Manager in a Dealership Body Shop. Its pretty interesting - I see a lot of smashed up cars. I love working with cars - although my boss and managers suck really bad and aren't good managers - so I'm currently looking at other jobs. My dream would to be to be able to go back to school for Dental Hygiene, but I won't be able to do that - I'm still paying off my Bussiness Management loan from my 2 year degree I got 2 years ago.

I'll probly end up working with Insurance, or in another Dealership. I'd love to work in another Dealership, I really love cars and the business.

I'm a research scientist at a large research hospital. We study bone marrow failure disorders, where the bone marrow fails to make one or more of the components of the blood.

Well, if you want it to sound fancy, I am a certified business office specialist working at Pennington Seed, Inc., at corporate headquarters, as an accounts receivable clerk for the Georgia, Maryland, and Alabama divisions.

If you want it to sound normal, I work in the AR dept at Pennington.

No clue what "the medical record number" is. Turns out it is the patient's id. And I bet ya that it is the field name in the database. Thank goodness for tech writers.

That sounds cool...you should be a field adjuster for an auto insurance company...then you can deal with the insurance part and with the cars..I use to work at allstate insurance in claims and I loved it...the field adjuster's made pretty good money......I left because I like health insurance better.

i worked in a factory for 5 years(and hated every min of every day i was there) to get myself a degree. There is nothing wrong with doing that. Go slow take one or two class at a time. Apply for every grant loan etc, out there.

then like most people you will find a job in something you did even go to school for.

Both my brothers and their wives work in a factory and they make decent money, keep food on the table, clothes on their backs, and the kids are rarely without. It's honorable work and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Have some pride in what you do.

My dad works in a steel mill. He's not quite 50 yet, but he's put in 30 years there. I've never been anything but proud of him and my brothers.

Something my brother always told me..."You know, this country wouldn't be nearly as far along as it is if it weren't for blue collar workers. Think about it...yeah sure, those that went to college MIGHT come up with the cool products and make more money, but who do you think does all the hard work to make things? That's right, the blue collar worker. Who do you think is out there in the hot sun, building houses and buildings? Yep, blue collar workers. Sure, computers are nice and all, but you don't need electricity to use a hammer. Think about it, sis."

He's a smart one, that oldest brother of mine.

He certainly is. They say it takes all kinds to make a world - it certainly takes all kinds to run a world economy.

I love my university and academy life generally, and I am well aware of how poorly it would function without the cleaning staff and catering staff, the groundskeepers and maintence crews. They are as much apart of my world as the admins who maintain the university's bureacracy and recordkeeping and the IT staff who keep the labs running. With degrees and without, they are all needed to support the students, lecturers and researchers. I'm eternally grateful to them, and very glad that they are not invisible in my university.

Health System Analyst

Everyone thinks that means computer related "systems analyst" but it doesnt.
I analyze how the actual health system (hospital in this case) operates in order to give good patient care while maximizing reimbursement.

I know nothing about 'puters!
