laralove laralove Congratulations!

It's blissfully quiet here today. At work we're surrounded by the biggest construction site in the country, and at home some major indoor and outdoor renovations are being done on a large house across the street. You don't realize how stressful all that noise is till it subsides.

It's been a little over 24 hours, but yesterday was absolutely amazing. I was invited to speak on a student panel at a conference my university held yesterday for 150 staff, faculty, and administrators. The topic was about encouraging greater participation from students in underrepresented groups in things like research, study abroad, collaborative learning, etc. I didn't realize that it was going to be such an amazing opportunity for me. I thought I would simply be shedding light on the experiences of those students who I aim to represent in these situations -- first generation students, transfers, parents, and veterans (whom I speak for on a regular basis). I had no idea that my words would have such a profound impact on those in attendance.

So many expressed their gratitude for my courage and honesty. Knowing that my message was received and that the concerns I expressed will possibly influence positive change fills me with enormous gratitude for the opportunity, and I am so proud to be able to advocate for those many underrepresented student populations.

And as if that weren't enough to send me over the moon, following my comments, I was not only offered many letters of recommendation for whatever I pursue in the future, and strongly encouraged to apply for a summer leadership fellowship under the chancellor of the university, but I was offered a staff position at the university after I graduate! This is a dream job! I was absolutely floored when I got the offer. And from an administrator who I highly respect.

I still can't believe it! Last night felt like a dream.
I am so sorry for the delay. I didn't see this. I am so pleased and proud of you.
Well done.
:hugs:

I cleaned out a big toy box today. The boot of my car is filled with donations. I love sorting and tidying.

It was supposed to rain today (it's in the 40s after weeks of brutal cold).  So far, the sun is shining, weakly, but it's out there!
We've got your rain and it is heavy! :lol3:

Honestly the past few days everything I have tried to do has gone wrong, so for a positive I will go with things could be a lot worse. :)

We have had rain for the first time in six weeks. Last night and this morning we have the heating on. I don't like the cold but the rain is needed and our farmers will be happy :)
