Second feeding today went good. His skin seems to be filling out a bit. I can't see his ribs anymore, and he is trying to suckle the syringe/lapping at it without fighting me. Mama is letting him lay with her still. Hubbins pulled them out and checked them
I have to watch my sisters kids today so I can't do much but feed/burp(/evacuate )Pinner and put him back with mama then return to human children.
But he looks much better, he's staying warm.

Also, He is making the sucky sound and cupping his tongue, but refuses her nipple and when he is near enough to smell she kicks him away. Its almost like she's fine with him being there and using her for warms, but his care is my responsibility by her opinion. He now meows when I pick him up and seems to know noms and pets are now a thing.

And he eats about a CC or a tiiiiny bit more before he's full. I don't think He could handle any more than what he's comfortable eating, which is right around that one

When he gets bigger and stronger mom will hopefully take him back.

Can you weigh him later?

As soon as I can I will. I'll do the bigger ones as well.

You called it. Went in to feed him at 8:13 pm and he was latched on with a miserly grip. I am not gonna lie, I cried in relief

I can't help but feel relieved yet apprehensive. He is in no way out of the woods yet, But the odds feel more in his favour if she's letting him nurse.

I'll post weights later tonight. My sister is going to help me get accurate measurements.

Weighing will tell you if he's gaining enough. You may need to supplement still. Keep an eye on him.

If he's lost weight, then he's not getting enough food. Kittens who are getting enough food gain weight. This kitten can't afford to lose 1.5 grams.

You'll need to continue supplementing. He needs a minimum of .5 mL each and every hour.

You also need to weigh him every 12 hours right now.

He may be trying to nurse, but not getting much if he's too weak to suckle properly.

He went back up to 46.2. It may have been an error in my scale. I have a flat digital scale. It's hard to get him to sit still on it.

I have one of those also. Try putting a flat deep tupperware dish on it, zero it out and then put the kitten in it. This will work until they are about 4 weeks and won't be still at all.

Thank goodness the tiny baby has gained weight - a good amount too!

Keep up the nice job. He needs to get up past 90 grams to be safer! :)

I have question...

My husband (who has been around cats his entire life and his mama raised up a premature kit as well) says that one day in the future ( as in year's from now) if he does survive he might just randomly die...
Does this actually happen with premature kits?

Also, His white fur is coming in. He is just so adorable.

I have found a home for one of his brothers once they are weaned, and they promised to get him fixed when he's old enough. So that's good. ^.^
