Update: kittens 1 2 and 4 are eating fine.
3 is not. (The runt)
He's crying for mama but only wants to snuggle. This afternoon when my husband gets home we are going to try to get KMR and an eyedropper.
Mama isn't producing milk like she should. Food, water, and litter box are extremely close. When she leaves the box I have to put her back in. I can't do anything for that baby right now and I'm bawling because he's so tiny and perfect and exactly what I prayed she would have. (I have always wanted a blue since I was a small child and he's got these markings like my first rescue)
I don't think he will make it.
He latched on last night, but if her milk isn't coming like it should, I would suspect he wore himself out trying.
I have no mayo or sugar/honey/karo. I have egg water and and iodized salt.
My husband is on his way to pick up KMR and BOUNCE Back (an electrolyte solution I trust highly)
I've been warming water for him and he's swallowing it. (I place It on the side of his mouth and he spits some out and swallows some)
It'll be here in an hour.
The other three are fine. Mama is loving them and they are already bigger than yesterday.
I'm sorry I haven't updated sooner. I've been researching what to use for him
You are giving him egg yolk and water, or just water? I'd probably go ahead and add a watered-down egg yolk with a small sprinkle of salt if you're waiting an hour still.
Don't apologize...you've kind of got your hands full. Update when you can.
The KMR should be fine, but if you're looking for some other additional formula next time you're shopping, Hoskins is good:
Hoskins formula
3 oz. goat’s milk
3 oz. water
4 oz. plain full-fat yogurt
3 egg yolks
Last week I trapped a 5-week kitten who was pretty much weaned but abandoned. I made some Hoskins because he was dehydrated and boney. He "plumped up" pretty quickly.
A CC of formula (cut with a bit of water since he is a few days premature) down him so far. Little dude is raising 7 kinds of hell at my husband (who is feeding him)
