I just read that a lot of roads around the Jersey shore are going to be closed at 4 p.m. today. The wind is already kicking up here in SE PA. Nothing bad yet, but definitely different from a couple of hours ago.

I don't know where you are in NC, but coastal NC got hit terribly last year during Irene. So far we have had rain, wind, some flooding, nothing too bad. Power went off and came right back on. Stay safe cat friends in the northern states. My sister and I aren't too worried about it. I guess since we 'be been been through so many hurricanes her in NC, I think we 've become rather blase about them. Also we 'be found that the local forecasters always make them sound way worse than they are.
They're also evacuating some of the coastal/island parts, I see on the Weather Channel. Stay safe everyone!I'm in NYC-- where they are planning to suspend subway service at 7 pm tonight. Last year Irene was not as devastating as predicted. Let's hope Sandy doesn't do much damage. Good luck to everyone in her path.
I'm on the southern coast of Mass, I'm going to die before you.We are all going to DIE! So sez my local news. I am Boston area.:beerpals: Party time.
Pam, take care of yourself! I'll be thinking of you. We're only a few miles away, and may be in the same boat (maybe not the best expression to use here!). We have PECO, but so, far, haven't heard from them.We received a recorded phone call from PP and L (Pennsylvania Power and Light) telling us that if the power should go out, we should be prepared for it to stay out for about a week or so. Got that email from Verizon, too. Our freezer is full; we barely had enough room to add some extra ice. I hope we don't lose everything.
Although all the schools are closed around here today and tomorrow, county offices and municipal offices remain open, at least for today.
We took our phone chargers to work and we're keeping them charging at all times. If the power does die, they'll remain charged for awhile.
For where I live, the news headlines said that it will be the worst-case scenario for us!Thinking of those of you in the storm area...
I'm just hoping that the warnings are the absolute worse case scenario (which they seem to do nowadays... certainly over here with cyclones) and that it won't be anywhere near as bad.
OMG! Let us know what happens! My living room ceiling is leaking from THE FLOOR UPSTAIRS?!??! We have no water lines in that area. A big crack just opened up.
