Who else is spending their weekend getting ready for this crazy storm?
Hurricane Sandy was downgraded on Saturday morning but remained highly menacing as it pulled away from the Bahamas, making a slow path toward the U.S. northeast coast where it threatens to become one of the worst storms in decades.
The late-season storm has been dubbed "Frankenstorm" by some weather watchers because it will combine elements of a tropical cyclone and a winter storm and is forecast to reach the U.S. coast close to Halloween.
That's normal for hurricanes.Irene was so very strange. The wind arrived long before the rain. .
Ha! That made me laugh!! "weatherweenies". Hee-hee. The local weatherweenies here in NYC are going absolutely nuts. Lonnie Quinn, the local CBS guy, is practically jumping out of his skin..... very hyper. This really gives them all something to do!! :lol3:From the way our local weatherweenies .......
Laurie - glad you caught the little rascal, and she's safe! :nod:LGD said:Almost most importantly, Gary tied twine to the trap trigger this morning, and he finally managed to trap the little kitty that turned up here Tuesday afternoon. She's at the vet. If the foster network can't take her, at least she's safe for the duration of the storm. She's just 10 weeks old! (No sign of momma or other siblings. How many want to place bets they turn up Monday or Tuesday? ).
Everybody is a "weenie" around here! We have local weatherweenies, TWC weatherweenies, and the technoweenies from Staples, Best Buy, and such. Our MIS guy at work is our MIS-weenie (much to his dismay....I called him that one time and it stuck; everybody calls him that now) . I call everybody weenies of some form! I always have.Ha! That made me laugh!! "weatherweenies". Hee-hee. The local weatherweenies here in NYC are going absolutely nuts. Lonnie Quinn, the local CBS guy, is practically jumping out of his skin..... very hyper. This really gives them all something to do!!
The media coverage is sort of making me snort, though. It's like it's the end of the world. Usually when they get all hyped up like this, it turns out to be heavy-duty over-reacting. This time, though, it may live up to the warnings.
I don't mean to make light of the situation, and, indeed, everyone stay safe...... and dry.
Laurie - glad you caught the little rascal, and she's safe!
Now, 5-10 inches of rain! Instead of making that gown, I should've built an ark!We are! On top of it, I spent the day finishing an 18C. gown to wear to the big Halloween party tonight, and doing all cleaning (including laundry) that used electricity. I did buy some supplies at lunchtime yesterday. We have tons of litter, canned cat food, and canned human food. We really should bring in more firewood before it rains.
Oh, and I'm supposed to have people over on Wednesday night (I hope I can make food!) AND houseguests arriving on Friday! Hey, what's 4-8" of rain and high winds to a hostess?Tent-ertaining, anyone?
Stay safe, everyone.
