Is there a meaning to your cat's name?

I named my black cat Tuffy because he was abandoned on my street last year in the hot month of July when about 3 months old. Heat index was over 100.He sat in the same spot on that hot dead-end street ALL DAY until my husband turned on the hose to water plants. He ran to our porch and has been here ever since. That's one tuff (tough) cat! We love him so much!We are retired and much of our time revolves around Tuff. What a joy.
I think that name is great for this kitty!  He is indeed tough (Tuff)     and it makes me think of how strong some cats have to be, (I have a tear in my eye because you found each other)!  I wish you many good times together!!

I named Mingo after a character in the old Daniel Boone TV series. Mingo was Daniel's Indian friend, and come to find out, is the name of an Indian tribe too. I wanted something not common for a black cat - no Blackies, Charcoals, etc.

My new rescue is named Lily Potter. She came to the rescue with five kittens, Harry, Hermione, Potter, Weasley, and Malfoy. The kittens all went first, so I got Lily. I had been thinking for weeks that if I had a female cat, I would name her Lily, so I kept the name. I think it's cute and she's so pretty.

I have one beautiful cat, and as posted earlier, she is Speedy Raylene, or Speedy for short.   I would love to name a girl cat Beatrice, if I should ever name another cat. It is my favorite girls name.

ALL of these stories are so heart-warming!  Thank you all my friends on TCS for posting them!!

Long time ago when I was in about 7th grade there was a stray Grey Tabby who hung around the block, just as sweet and friendly as can be, and was pretty much adopted by our 2 other cats (which of course meant he was adopted by us humans lol).  At any rate, his tail was broken at the end, the last 2 or 3 inches, and was "corked" to the side when he would elevate his tail.  Therefore I decided on Corky for his name.

Well, about a year later he got run over by my dad while "playing chicken" with the car, and his hindquarters were injured and his tail was limp.  He survived, but had to have his tail amputated which was a little ironic since it was the unique characteristic of his tail to begin with that got him his name.   Thankfully and surprisingly his balance wasn't hindered one bit and went on to live a full life, just with no tail.  I'm not big on choosing a single favorite cat I've owned, but if I had to pick one it would be Corky without a doubt.

Welcome @StampySnifflles

to thecatsite!  Marianne here, aka @raysmyheart  and my girl Speedy are so glad you joined and posted your babies and their names!!
You just have to get Fuzzy pants when he least suspects anything.
My Speedy is a Siamese calico mix, 4 years and she is everything to me.
(I can't post pics because I don't have a camera, but when I do, TCS will have many nice pictures of Speedy).  We hope to hear a lot from you!!  All the best regards!!

@Mingle  , that is an awesome way to name a cat, especially with a friend.  I love that name and how it came about!!!
Have fun!!  Maybe the cat can take classes too???

I love Sgt. Fuzzyboots. What a great combination of character and whimsy. So here's one on your mr's side.

This is my baby girl Lurk. I'd wanted too name a black cat Lurk for a while because in one of my favorite book series (the sword of truth series) the main character's grandmother had a black cat named Lurk and i thiought it seemd fitting to a black cat because they Lurk in the shadows lol. Well, we already had a cat at the time i read those books and couldn't afford more at the time so i decided to keep it stored away for later. Then one afternoon our kitty (Tyler was his name after tyler durden from fight club cause he fought with all the other males in the neighborhood. He was a blue tabby) went missing and we couldnt find him. Turns out one the neighbor's dogs got out and killed him. It was verry sad. Fast forward a couple of months and my brother in law said that our local shelter had a cat who had had kittens and that they were having a hard time finding homes for the last three (he volunteers there) and asked if we wanted one. I imediately said yes and asked what they looked like, genders, etc. And he told me they were all black females. I told him i wanted the smallest one (i'm a sucker for the runts lol). The next day he came over and said that the other two had been adopted and that if i wanted her he had to know now so i said to bring her home and we've had her ever since. Needless to say, She's and entirely inside cat and I'll never have another outside cat again. She's a little over a year and half old and my second favorite cat ive ever had (I've had over 20 cats lol). The top 3 pics are of her roght after we got her (shed still sleep on my chest if I'd let her but it makes my nose itch cause she sheds a lot) and the last 2 were from the other day.

Sorry for the book lol.

It's so sad that black cats are always the last to be adopted.  You would think that we would have moved past that ridiculous superstition by now.  People are so stupid.  That's why I have always had such a soft for black cats.  They get a bad rap.  They can't control the color of their fur and they are definitely not bad luck.  And if having a black cat made you a witch, there would be a lot more toads hopping around.

This was my Tyler, or-as my husband called him-Fight Club lol. We rescued him from one of the trees in our yard when he about 3 or 4 months old. We heard crying one night and our friend thought it was a bird (for which we still teas him to this day lol) and, after searching for about 20 minutes, my brother in law climbed about 20 feet up the tree to get him. He was really sweet but kind of stand-offish.

I adore all cats but I'm usually quicker to adopt a black cat than any other just because the others have a better chance of finding homes.
