Sadie had a very very bad late afternoon and evening.  She was so weak.  I believe the vet visit just did her in.  I was worried she was not going to make it through the night.  I gave her more pain meds and that really seemed to help.  She ate a bit over night and I did syringe feeding of almost 1/4 can this morning.  That is the most she has eaten in one seating in awhile.  Her night time was not smooth.  She seemed agitated.

No poop either so I bet we go back to the vet again.

At least she is moving around this morning.  Better than the limp rag doll she was last night.

I have an animal communication session tomorrow.

:hugs: for you and Sadie. Come on little one. Keep fighting. You can get through this.

Hope the animal communication session sheds some light on Sadie's past.

It's still ups and downs.  The pain meds knock her out, but take away the pain.  The pain meds make her not want to eat.  The appetite stimulant revs hers up and makes her pace.  This depletes her energy.  I did get about 1/3 can of wet food down her earlier.  When she hurts she growls and hunches over.  Ugh.

Tomorrow she starts a 3 day course of non steroidal anti inflammatory meds.  These are usually not given to cats but for 3 days it is allowed.  We are looking to see if there is inflammation.  She will also get another B12 injection and we may do an Adequan injection.  We are going to test her for Bartonella and Toxoplasmosis.

I had the animal communication session today.  She believes Sadie is between 4-5 years old.  She had owners, but Sadie was fuzzy on how she lost them.  A stranger ( to Sadie) came to her home and she was grabbed by the tail and thrown against the wall.  She suffered the fractured tail, cervical vertebrae injury, muscle soarness to the body and also some swelling of her brain.  She has some nerves that are very tired and weak.  Everything in her body hurts.  She has some minimal paralysis in the upper esophagus.  Thus she can swallow, but she makes regurgitating sounds and it is slow to get down.

She did previously use a litter box, but right now her body is too weak.  She feels as though she gets little warning that she has to potty.  Also her brain is a little fuzzy.  Partially from the pain meds, but also some swelling.  It is not felt that there is brain damage just some swelling.

All of her injuries will take time.  The cervical vertebrae injury will not heal, but we should be able to find something to take away the pain.  She may have good days and bad days.

She wants to stay and live with my family.  She wants to be loved.  We talked with her about stopping the pacing as it makes her worse as well as doing her part to try and eat more.  In order for the body to heal, it needs nourishment.

I am still kind of working through it all.  It is not easy caring for her all day and being sure she gets all of her food.  I am doing the best I can and I so want for her to heal and have a normal life and enjoy life too.

Poor Sadie. At least you have a few answers. What pain meds is she on at the moment?

At least there is a sense that she will be able to get through this. I imagine is as nasty to watch for you as it is for her to experience. She is so, so lucky to have you. You're both continually in my thoughts :hugs:

If the nsaid helps, it might be worth finding out if devils claw is safe for her. It's been used for years in horses as a natural alternative to bute (phenylbutazone - an nsaid most commonly used in horses). I know it's safe for dogs, so it may be safe for cats too. Devils claw allows loads of horses to stay off bute and still be comfortable. It really could be worth a go, if appropriate.

You're certainly putting a lot of time, effort and money into saving her, and hopefully she realizes this and is motivated to pull through. I really hope she improves soon and that her pain lessens!  It seemed you had a good strategy by giving her half doses of the pain med and appetite stimulant. What did the vet say about giving the half doses? What about a mild laxative?  It will be so much easier when she can eat and poop on her own.  I hope Hampton is still hanging around and doing okay, too.

I have spoken with the vet each day.  Yesterday she called me 4x with new info.  She really is going above and beyond for Sadie.  She has given me a price break here and there too.  It's quite ironic that my vet uses Animal communicators too.  She asked me last week if I had contacted one yet and I said I hadn't.  She gave me a few questions to ask!!  I was just hoping for some new info.

The vet recommended I keep the dose at 1/2 to 1/4 the original dose.  It works, but unfortunately doesn't last as long.  Yet today she is sleeping and not moving around too much.  The animal communicator told her that in order for her body to heal she needs to rest and stop pacing.  She hasn't paced since!  Hopefully she will not pace so much tonight.

No miralax right now.  I used the Laxatone and that seemed to work.  I cannot wait until she can eat on her own.

News on Hampton.  He is here 2x a day and I believe he is thinking about moving in for good.  He used to just come once or twice a day, eat and then leave.  Now he is here for dinner around 6:30-7pm and is not leaving.  He hangs under the deck until dark and is then coming up onto the deck.  He has been in the feeding stations as well as checking out the deck.  A few nights he has been sitting with Shadow.  Last night he got up on the love seat and slept there with Shadow for 3 hours.  I am totally amazed.  This morning around 8am he came back after eating around 6:30am and appeared on the deck.  He even saw me and didn't completely break down!  I think wherever he was for 8 months, he realized that my place was much better.  I just hope there will not be issues with him trying to take Stellar's place.  Stellar appeared last night while Hampton was on the love seat and Stellar freaked out.  He didn't come for breakfast this morning.  He knows  Hampton and they get along, but Hampton is moving fast.

There is always something going on her.

You're lucky to have such a wonderful vet. I know a lot of people struggle to find a good one. Good to hear that Sadie's stopped pacing. I really hope it lasts :cross:

Great news that Hampton might be back for good :D Hope he and Stellar sort themselves out quickly :vibes:

Hi, I'm hoping Sadie does well. Can I ask the name of the animal communicator you use? I may be interested.

Poor girl. At least she was picked up by someone who has a lot of love to give her and is willing to go that extra mile to make sure she gets healthy again.

Glad to hear Hampton is still around. I hope he works things out with the rest of your boys.

Vibes for all your furry friends to stay happy and healthy.

Sadie is a bit perkier today.  She slept all afternoon yesterday and didn't pace quite as much last night.  This morning she was ok and she ate a tiny bit.  Getting her to eat all day was a struggle.  She just did not want to eat.  I am at a loss.  We go back to the vet tomorrow and she will get another B12 injection and laser treatment.  I am hopeful for a different appetite stimulant too.

I looked into making bone broth.  It is used for sick animals as well as geriatric animals.  It's a bit of a process to make, but I started it this morning.  The first round was finished about 2 hours ago.  I used chicken.  I took a few pieces of the cooked meat and the fresh broth and pureed it smooth.  I then offered it to her.  She would lap a tiny bit.  I was then able to syringe feed her

2oz!!!  This is huge.  An hour later she was so perky!!!  Tonight the bones and broth cook in the crock pot for 24 hours.  The bones should be cooked to almost nothing and it will turn gelatinous.  I will then puree it and feed it to her.  She will have it on top of her regular food or mixed in to be syringed.  If anyone is interested, I can post the video I watched.

Here's hoping tonight and tomorrow bring continued progress.  THanks again for all the good thoughts.

So glad the bone broth is helping - even when only half made :D

Hope you have a good vet appointment tomorrow. :cross: that Sadie's progress continues.

Wow, that's great news. It's amazing that she perked up so quickly after just a little bit of broth. I guess she listened to what your animal communicator had to say to her.

Keep going Sadie, eat up all your broth.

(It's broth, not beer.........)
