I love this thread! I'm Cheryl. I'm 32 years old, married for one year. Hubby and I are planning on starting a family soon. We live in South Florida. I've been here for over 20 years. Hubby is a transplant from New York. I love the weather!! I just wish that the school system was better here.

I'm a paralegal. I've been in the same job for 9 years. I really enjoy it and hope to change my schedule to part time once I have a baby.

I love to travel. I've been a few places. England, France, Italy, Holland, New Orleans, Las Vegas, North Carolina Mountains. . . I wish that I was independently wealthy and could just travel all the time! Too bad I'm just your regular working stiff!

We have two cats, Simon and Max. Simon was a stray that had wandered into a friend's yard. She already had three cats and asked me if I wanted to take him. He's my baby and loves me only! Max we got from the humane society. He is a true loverboy. Rub his belly and you will be his best friend.

That's it for me!

What a great eclectic group! All over the world, so many different and interesting backgrounds, brought together by our common love of our furbabies. Thanks for bringing this thread back to life. We are relative newbies and had not stumbled upon it earlier.

My husband Jim and I are retired on a beach in Texas with our darlings, Miss Kitty and Samwise. Miss Kitty is a feral who adopted us several years ago when Jim was working in Houston, and Samwise is a Grand Champion Turkish Van who joined our family just last month -- and quite a handful he is. I am a dedicated quilter and I can be found almost all day in my sewing room with my furbabies "helping me."

I met Jim a couple of years after he had graduated from one of our military academies, and in June of this year (2004) we will have been married 45 interesting, exciting and happy years. We have raised three sons, all have gone through grad school -- two lawyers and one wildlife manager -- all have charming wives, and they have given us five grandchildren. They all live here in Texas, close enough for me to see our lovely grandchildren often, but not so close that I am a full-time "granny nanny."

After 20 years in uniform Jim retired from the military in 1977. He was away from home so very much -- he was home only eight weeks of our first two years of marriage. His first son was six months old when he first met his father. We moved around a real bunch. My eldest had attended more schools than he had grades by the time he entered high school, but my sons received an education in life and people which few do. On the other hand, when Jim was able to be home for a while we always had another honeymoon!

I have been a homemaker and housewife all my life, and I had to do a lot of it all by myself. No regrets -- never a dull moment -- I was a "service brat" myself, so I knew what I was getting into. While I was born in California when my father was "passing through" on a tour of duty there I have lived literally all over the country.

Jim attended law school while in the military and was admitted to the bar after graduating at the top of his law class at the George Washington University in the District of Columbia. The family was very proud. When he retired from the military I had this vision of his being home every day, only for him to be invited to join the U. S. Foreign Service, which he did, and off he went around the world again, and I seldom was able to accompany him. He had spent the last portion of his military service seconded over to the NSC and the State Department, so his job remained much the same.

Through all of this we have always had kitties -- as many as three at a time. Of course they were all experienced travelers, but they gave me so much comfort and joy when occasionally I would begin to feel sorry for myself -- all by myself with three squalling babies.

Then one day I met an exhausted husband at the airport as he returned from a long overseas assignment, to be told "I am not going to work tomorrow; where do you want to go from here?" He had burned out. He retired again from government service and we moved down to Texas and Jim began yet another career as a trial lawyer. Three years ago he burned out again, he finally (I think) retired, and we moved into our last (I hope) home -- a beach house on a lovely Texas beach. It is heaven! And Jim and I are together every day and every night.

As I mentioned, I am a quilter. Jim's hobbies have always been vintage automobiles and vintage aircraft. Before we moved to the beach, when he was home long enough he raced his 1948 roadster in a vintage sports car series and flew his WWII-vintage (1941) aircraft with the Confederate Air Force -- in both activities he and other "mature" fellows pretended they were 40 years younger -- but I think it made them younger.

I have taken up too much cyberspace, but this has been a nice nostalgia trip. I could have gone on and on and on, but I will force myself to stop, pet my furbabies and get back to the sewing machine.

You are a great group, and I look forward to learning more about y'all (I have had to learn Texas-talk).

All the best,

Ann, with Jim, Samwise and Miss Kitty, on a Texas beach

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I'm Susan, 45 years young, but still have the mind of a 35 year old!.
I have been married for 24 years to Ed although i left the marriage 5 years ago for Richie. Richie and i split up a year ago, and although i'm still legally married, i'm free and single for the moment?!.

I work as a receptionist for a large sign company and have been here for the last 28 years!!(I was a child when i started LOL). The job isn't just answering a switchboard or greeting clients, i'm the travel agent, hotel finder, the directors dental appointment maker(not to mention 'his' liar to clients!). But i do love my job as i have a lot of clients who i class as friends.

I never wanted children, but have my furbaby Rosie who recently turned 2, and a new kitten called Sophie who Rosie now loves
.

I value my friends as they were the ones who were there for me when i left my marriage and my split from Richie. But most of all, My little girl Rosie!, because if i hadn't had her to come home to i would have been a basketcase otherwise!.

I can get on with anyone and can never be short on conversation?!.

I better go now to give someone else a turn

Ok, my turn! My name is Tanya and I live in Jacksonville, FL. I am 24 years old and have 1 cat named Midori. I live with my boyfriend, who I have been with for 5 1/2 years now. He has a 7 year old son, who comes to visit very often. It is his fault we are not married. I want to be, but he is not excited about it
Anyway, Dori is my first and only kitty. My boyfriend hates cats and I had to beg for 4 years to get one. Funny thing is, Dori is "Daddy's girl" she loves him so much and he cuddles with her all the time. It is so cute. I would love to have another, but I REALLY spoil Dori and I am worried about the financial responsibility of another cat. I work full time for a custom home builder, my job title is project coordinator, but really I am basically the builder's assistant. I help him with everything but the bookkeeping. I go to school in the evenings for nursing. I am still taking my pre-req classes for the RN program. I love school and I have a 4.0 GPA. Once I am an RN I plan to get my bachelors and would really love to become a physicians assistant. I love my job, I have a wonderful boss and am not looking forward to the day I have to quit to take on nursing. I guess that's about all

Oh, and my screen name is Squirtle (after the cutest little Pokemon character my bf's little boy has) and I am a catsiteaholic.

I check this website like 10 times a day when I am at work. I wonder if anyone else has this problem

Hi, my name is Traci. I'm 27 and live in Kansas City, MO. I'm single with no human children.

I am an only child, my parents had me and thought we've achieved perfection why try again. Either that or, one's bad enough.
I just moved out of my parent's house last year, I come from an extremely tight nit family though and still make it a priority to spend Sundays with them. I honestly think I can count on one hand the number of weeks in my life that I haven't seen a member of my extended family. I hang out with one of my cousins all the time.

I have two cats Gandalf and Samwise that are my kids. About a month before I decided to move out, my cousin's cat had kittens and by the time I moved out I only had to go a week before Gandalf was ready to come with me. Samwise showed up a month later on my cousin's porch and next thing I know I'm getting a call, Traci do you want another kitty. Needless to say, I saw him and fell completely in love. I take them with me every Sunday to visit my parents and both do they get spoiled there. I think my Mom dotes on them as much as me if not more.

I am currently finishing up my undergraduate degree in Accounting at Rockhurst. I should be done in Dec of this year (knock on wood). Then I plan on taking a year or so off then heading back to Grad School.

I work at Sprint in the A/R department reconciling credit card payments. I hate it but hey it pays the bills and reimburses me for school so I can't complain too much.

My hobbies in include: reading, watching movies (I'm a huge movie buff and will watch just about anything.), listening to music (I used to play the piano but there hasn't been much time for it lately with school finally winding down I'm hopeing to start up again.)

Collections: Eeyore, I noticed that there were some other people who collected Eeyore earily in the thread. He's the best. Books and record albums and cat toys.

Well I think that all about me, not very exciting but it keeps me busy at least.

NYC The Town so Nice, They Named it Twice!
Great Idea For a Thread

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, oh wait that's another story! Four score and seven years ago, oh wait, that's a speech and a lie! Actually,it's 48 yrs ago, that I was born in the quaint little village of Brooklyn, NY. I was the second of a twin female birth. I was a surprise, and have been surprising myself and others ever since. I am second generation American, and greatly identify with my Eastern European roots.

I led a unremarkable childhood, unless you count a mentally ill and alcoholic mom, whom I loved very much. She did the best she could and she loved me. Wonderful loving grandparents on my moms side, especially my English Poppy, who took me all around NYC to show me the sites and point out all the architecture, and flora and fauna...yes we do have flora and fauna here. My dad, as I tell him now invented "take your daughter to work day" way back in the 1960s. He would take my sister and I to Wall St with him when he had to work Saturdays. I always made him stop to see the sights, The Federal Building, The Stock Exchange, and my absolute favorite Trinity Church. For some still unknown reason I loved to visit the graves at Trinity Church Yard of Alexander Hamilton, and Robert Fulton. Why a 7 or 8 yr old foud this important I do not understand. Perhaps it was the foundation for my love of history. We also saw John Glenn's first ticker tape parade, I think 1963, from my Dads office window, 14 stories up, what a thrill to throw ticker tape out the window!

Okay fast forward a bit. I went to nursing school, recieved my RN. I truly believe nursing was my calling because of my mom. Over the years I too have stugled with mental illness, first depression, then diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. But I have an excellent Dr and and excellent therapist that are there for me, literally, morning, noon or night. Great meds too!

I now longer work for a "real" hospital. Did that for 20 yrs, had enough. I now work for a non profit org name The Floating Hospital, we have been serving NYC's poor and homeless since 1866. when the NY Times commisioned a ship for their homeless, poor and orphaned paper boys, just after The Civil War for sails and health care services. After Sept 11th, the city made us live up our pier (long story) and we could not find a safe and suitable pier. So for the first time in over 135 yrs we had to move on land and cancel on Summer Sails Program. A program, where we take about 400 kids out for "cruises" every week during the summer...very sad indeed. However, I did not give up, even though we also did not have the money for the cruises. So I wrote a favorite author of mine, A E Hotcher, who happens to be the partner with Paul Newman in the Newman's Own Food charitys and got a $10.000.00 donation on my own. I am so proud of that!!!. Hopefully we we sail next year!

This Sept I am stating back to school to finish my BA in Cultural Studies at Pratt Institute, and will eventually get and MA in Library Science.

I guess you could say I'm pretty busy...oh and I have two cats..Franz and Madeline, but you knew that...LOL!

Name: Karen
Age: 29 (really, I am)
Occupation: Accountant
Hobbies: dogs, cats, fish, gardening, crafts, internet buddies, house remodeling.
Marital Status: the luckiest Wife on earth

I am an accountant. I am indifferent about my job, but I make way too much money to leave it and try something more "me", so I spend my off work hours doing the stuff I love. I run an Adoption Center out of a PetSmart in Orland Park, IL. I have adopted out about 50 cats in the last 6 months and have not had 1 single cat returned. I pride myself in my ability to choose good cat/human matches and to choose which cats can handle the PetSmart environment and which cannot. I really enjoy helping these furry creatures, no matter how hard it is when one is ill. We concentrate on Strays and work with animal control. I also help people who are in dyer need to rehome their pets.

I have three stinky boxer dogs, one of which is my once in a lifetime girl, Bonnie. She is truly a unique animal and has the personality of a great comedian mixed with a Bad A$$ broad!! I love her to death. Clyde is her brother. We bought out house for Clyde. We lived in a condo and Clyde became agressive to the point that we couldn't walk him down the street anymore, so we bought him his own backyard!! Chester was dumped by his previous owners; probably because he's not nearly pure-bred. Of course, he is the BEST dog and my husband favorite work-out buddy. We couldn't live without any one of them.

I also have three kitties, Belle, who is nothing short of Royalty. Scott Farkus, who keeps me cracking up on a regular basis and young Pepper who is my Scott entertainer and has the loudest purr motor on earth.

I also just found this thread. There's probably not alot that I can say here that most don't already know.

My name is Abby. I'm 27 and have two boys, Garrett age 7 and Ethan who will turn 5 on June 5th. Both of them play baseball and Garrett was actually drafted to the city league this year--proud momma I am!

I have two cats, Sam and Sally. I got Sam from a litter of barn cats at my mom's and Sally was given to me by my landlord this winter after she was abandoned by her previous owner.

My boyfriend is named Jon, he is 34 years old and I have been with him for the past 3 years. He races ATV's with GNCC (Grand National Cross Country)racing league all over the east coast from January to October. He lives exactly 2 blocks down the street from me and I met him when he tripped over his dog and landed basically at my feet.

I am in enrolled at Indiana University and will have a degree in Law in appx one year. My initial plan was Criminal Defense, but now that its all wrapping up I am faced with the thought of whether this is actually what I want to do. Much to the dismay of my parents who have paid the way.

I have one sister who is 34 and married. She has 3 beautiful red headed children, 1 boy and 2 girls, ranging from ages 4 1/2 years to 4 weeks. They get to stay with their favorite Aunt Abby quite a bit. I have my nephew 4 days a week during the school year because he goes to pre-school with Ethan.

My hobbies include reading things other than textbooks, cross stitch, sewing, rug making, gardening and restoring antiques and trunks. Some of the things I sell, some I give away and others I keep. I have 4 trunks right now that are sitting in my basement waiting on their makeovers. I buy them for $30-$50 and once restored, I have sold them anywhere from $200 to $900.

My "job" for the last 2 years is body piercing at my best friends tattoo shop on a call-in basis. I actually had one person scream and pass out from the "pain"..
That's when I decided I would only keep doing it long enough to get out of school as I have no patience for that whatsoever.

Hmmm...I guess that's about it

Never noticed this thread before. My real name is Ann, Cilla was my soulmate cat, who died a long, long time ago, and he'd better be waiting for me along with Hercules and all the others. I grew up in Manchester, England, married and emigrated to Australia. We had terrible problems having children (opposite blood groups) won't go into all that we spent 11 years in Australia adopted two little Aussies, Vicky and Paul, and fostered other children. Loved every minute of it. Then we came back to England (not my idea, I can tell you) got divorced and a long time after I remarried. I am now a widow. I work as PA to the partner in a legal firm, have four cats who I adore and I like reading, writing, crafts, all animals but particularly cats and dogs (would love a goat). I also like walking and love the countryside, miss South Australia so much.

I am almost done with my degree. I am a SAHW due to where we are located right now. When we return stateside I will be doing work with the environment and national parks. We also have a rabbit and are going to get a puppy soon too.

My name is Amy and I am a quarter-century old (sounds more interesting than 25). I am owned by Eponine, who is an almost-4 year old dilute tortoiseshell. I am also in the process of adding a new kitten to my home.
Savannah, GA has been my home for the past 19 years (with the exception of 4 years of college at the University of GA in Athens). I majored in criminal justice and minored in Spanish. Currently, I work as a domestic violence/sexual assault victim advocate at Hunter Army Airfield.
My wonderful boyfriend is Bradley and we have been together since August, 2003. He is the other love of my life (besides Eponine).
My hobbies include going to the beach, playing piano and saxophone (not at the same time, sadly), drawing, watching movies, politics (I'm an active member of the Democratic Party), and going out on my boyfriend's boat. We both love to fish.
I'm glad to be a part of TCS
