LDG has made a very good suggestion.  In the meanwhile have you tried covering him up with a doggy outfit? Is there a cat antihistomine you can try?

I asked if luv4u859  had tried any of the advise that had been given. The sticky patch covering the hole worked  

do you have space to leave the carrier out with the door open? this way they wont get upset if you have to use it. Just throw a towel over it and it becomes an extra place they can lie in.

One of the things you see, is people putting a slice of cucumber on closed eyes. you could try this, although I would check if you have to rinse the slices after you cut them and before you put them on your eyes.
