  1. Another small victory today re my wrist. I can now slice a bagel in half myself. Hooray!.
Yay, you!

Rick has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. He has a large mark behind his ear and they're thinking it might be skin cancer. They'll have to take it off and then do a quick biopsy to see what's going on. He's worried and I'm scared to death. When he had it checked out before, the doctor didn't seem to concerned, but now it's growing. I can't go with him as I have that dentist appointment to have the new crown put on that tooth. I called to postpone the dental appointment so I could go with Rick, but to re-schedule, I'd have to wait about six weeks. The dentist doesn't think this old crown will last that long and that could be ugly, too. I felt like I was caught between a rock and hard place. Rick told me just to go to the dentist, that he's a big boy and he can handle it. Well, I know he can; I want to be there anyway.
  • Breakfast for the furkids, 3 miles on the treadmill, made the bed, grabbed my shower
  • Dentist appointment this afternoon
  • Scoop the boxes tonight
And I think I'm going to bed to watch Supernatural, and hope I can stay awake. Really tired this morning.

I hope that everything goes OK for Rick.
that it's nothing serious. He won't be alone today. We will all be with him in spirit. He's a cat person too and we all stick together!

  • Got up, got dressed, made bed
  • Fed cats
  • Made coffee & drank it
  • Yesterday I bought 20 sour oranges at the supermarket. So this morning I prepped 4 for making marmalade.
  • After lunch I'm going to estate where friends work to see & photograph the root cellars, new and old
  • Stop at Wal-Mart to buy some kitty litter, cat food, and "stuff"

And the day won't be over by the time I get home so there will be more to do . . .

...sending you
's, @Winchester...

today i made the stuffed peppers -- the ground beef filling smelled good enough to eat uncooked! i had small pepper halves, so i had enough extra filling to fill one of my mini loaf pans and will get enough meatloaf for two sandwiches out of that! i love meatloaf sandwiches...

other than that, i washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and took out the kitchen trash. i got the wood stove going in the early afternoon, and have kept it going 'low and slow' since then.

after that, i sat down and watched a movie.

Thanks, guys. They sent it out to be biopsied and they'll call us. She thinks it is basal cell, but she doesn't think it's bad and he should be fine. Once they get the results back, she'll cut it out. She did a thorough check on the rest of him and he's fine, other than that.

I was wrong about that crown. They took the old crown off and put a temp on. They'll call me when the new crown is ready and then I'll go in and have the permanent crown put in. So I'm still not done. The worst part was the novocaine shot....I hate shots, especially in my mouth. He turned around to pick up the needle, turned back to me, and the tears were falling and he told me I'm was going to leave nail marks in the arms of his chair. 61 years old and I still cry at the dentist.
Wuss with a capital W....that's me.

  • We're spending the day out and about. Thinking about the Green Dragon and a bit of shopping.
When we get home, I'll check the boxes again. And that will be that for the day.

Laundry is done. Christmas gifts have been wrapped and packed into a shipping box. I addressed another holiday card to Canada so that needs to go the post office as well. Edited my recurring bank transfers. I didn't realize that the local bank automatically withdraws money from my checking account on the first of the month for the mortgage payment. I had submitted the December payment last week
Not a big deal, though.

Interesting that it was behind Rick's ear where one would not think the sun would reach. I'm fanatical about a dermatology visit annually. Caught a potential skin cancer on the top of my nose a couple of years ago. Most people would not have noticed it, but I did. Good luck to you guys with the biopsy.

I cry at the dentist & most everywhere else. I screamed at the ortho when they cut off my cast with a saw. They were in fits of laughter because it doesn't hurt! It was the sound of the saw that scared me.

today i made several phone calls, moved a couple containers of stuffed peppers and a gallon of milk (minus about 12 ounces) to the upright freezer, moved 3 pounds butter from the upright freezer to the fridge (one pound plus one stick) and the kitchen fridge freezer (the rest) -- will be making oatmeal peanut butter cookies early this week, washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, got the wood stove going and have kept it going 'low and slow', worked on my budget for a bit, then watched a couple tv shows.

Do you buy cords of wood or actually go out, find the wood, & chop it yourself? IIRC, you actually do chop it yourself.

i get wood delivered anywhere from one to four loads per year, of 8 1/2 to 10 face cords each. it comes in a huge dump truck, which them dumps it onto my driveway. i then sort and stack it, and cover the stacks with tarps. there's always too long pieces, a rather large pile of it once the wood is sorted, which i trim down to usable size with my electric chainsaw.

i only have one very young tree on my property, so don't have the option of felling trees and cutting them up for firewood. i've tried using an ax as well as a sledge hammer and wedge to split wood, but i just don't have the eye-to-hand coordination for it. not sure if i have the upper body strength for it, though for me it would likely be not enough strength in my arms -- that's always where i have problems when using some power tools. for example, i'm fine using a chainsaw but need to use an electric one because on a gas chainsaw pulling the starter cord quickly causes my left arm to become severely strained in the muscles close to the elbow. i'm quite strong, but i always say that i'll just never have the strength that a man would -- my arms just weren't made to handle some things.

***********

this evening i'll do some reading and continue working on my (computer) jigsaw puzzle.

That's amazing. We had a country house in Delaware County & husband is brilliant at wood. I would freeze to death before I could do anything like you do.

I spent 30 minutes last night on the phone with our ISP. Outlook died. Again. I tried everything I could think of, googled my butt off, looking for anything that could help me and, finally, in desperation, I called our ISP. And did what we did before....killed the account and started a new one. I'm really getting tired of dealing with this. As soon as the new account was created, all the emails started coming through again and everything was fine. But boy, it's getting frustrating.
  • Breakfast for the furkids, I emptied the dishwasher, Rick is scooping boxes as I type
  • Errands: banking, Target, PetSmart (to use our $10 coupon), Christopher and Banks (I have a $20 coupon and there's no minimum purchase)
  • We're going to stop at the Amish farm this morning to check out their baskets (got home too late last night and I didn't want to hassle them around suppertime)
  • The tree is supposed to get decorated tonight; so far, it has lights and that's it. We're trying to figure out where to put the Tacky White Tree in the kitchen....I don't see that happening.
If you live near a PetSmart and you feed Friskies and/or use Tidy Cats litter, join Friskies' club. Every month, you receive a $10 coupon off a $30 order. It's worth it, especially if you have more than one cat!

Comcast is completely down. No internet phone or tv. It is a Major outage. At times like this I am so glad I still have an old fashioned landline.

Keep the outage up there. :paranoid: Like you, I also kept my Verizon landline.

Hope it comes back soon. :cross:

I think today will be some decorating, some laundry and some straightening.

  • Breakfast for the kids, Rick emptied the dishwasher, I'm going to scoop boxes
  • Working on three loads of laundry (I stripped the bed down and will put the winter comforter on this morning; it has snowflakes
     )
  • Mollipop and Tabby need claws clipped and Tabby needs her ears cleaned out
  • Rick and his sister are meeting with their mother this afternoon; it's a financial meeting to determine if she should go into a double room or stay in a single room at her assisted living facility. He and I went over her finances last night and we think she'll be able to stay in a single room this year, which is what she wants to do.
  • Before he goes to meet with his mom, Rick's going to bring up some Christmas boxes from the basement and from the bedroom closet and I'll go through them and decorate a bit while he's gone this afternoon. I'll have to get out the polish and dusting cloths.
  • And then a good vacuum
  • I need a manicure tonight
I really need to sit down and go through recipes to figure out Christmas dinner and to choose which cookies I'm making this year. I told Dear Richard, "No more than four kinds of cookies" and I mean it. He was not amused. But If I make them, then I eat them! He's already pushing for his snickerdoodles and for some chocolate chip cookies. And I'm going to make almond brittle and some marshmallows, too.
