Rick had his fantasy football draft last night, so he was on the computer for quite a while. There was some muttering coming out of the computer room, but nothing really bad.
We talked a bit this morning and he seems happy with his line-up. Me, I was in bed and sound asleep last night before 9:30.  One minute I was watching Annabelle Langbein making Honeyed Oranges on CREATE and the next minute, I was out. I don't remember a thing after seeing her peel oranges.
  • Rick called the plumber yesterday afternoon; he got back to us right away and is coming in this morning to look at the water softener. If there's nothing wrong, then I will eat crow and I'll pay the plumbing bill myself. (See, I can say that because I do think it's out of cycle and the plumber is needed to reset the thing.)
  • Trash night, so must clean the litter boxes
  • Put the food back in the freezer. I turned the cooling mechanism back on yesterday morning and water had frozen, so everything is fine there. I just need to put the food back inside and life can go on. (It got the freezer cleaned out, if nothing else.)
  • Three loads of laundry are separated in the hallway and waiting for me to come home from work.
  • It's an exercise night. I did my exercises last night, but didn't get them done on Monday, so I have to make up that night.

From reading your posts, your husband sounds so helpful. My husband doesn't help me with anything.
You know, he really is very helpful. He tends not to do chores on his own, but if I ask him to vacuum, for example, he'll do it. Or he'll make dinner, if I'm not going to be home right away or it's something he can make. He scoops the litter boxes on weekends, but I do it during the week. He empties out the dishwasher during the week and I do it on weekends. He will do laundry and when I do it, he'll always help fold it, put it away, etc.

But understand that he really didn't have much of a choice. Although he came from a family where his mom did everything for him, he learned quickly that I don't operate that way. I came from a family where my Dad pitched right in. He cleaned, he cooked (even if it was only bacon and eggs), he did laundry, he did whatever needed to be done if Mom was working.  And for years I worked a 7-day swing-shift schedule, so he (and our son) had to do their share. And then when I was in college, well, it was either they had to cook and do the chores or they wouldn't be able to eat and they wouldn't have clean clothes. I couldn't do it because I was either working, in class, working on home work, or sleeping. And I freely give them all the credit for everything they did. I know it wasn't easy on either of them. But they got through it.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I went on strike one time. I was working second shift and I had made dinner and dessert for Rick and DS before I went into work. Got home at midnight from work and nothing was done. The dishes were in the sink; they couldn't even put them in the dishwasher!, there was trash on the kitchen counter. I was......peeved. Oh, heck, I was angry. And I made up my mind I wasn't cleaning up after them. And I went to bed. Next day, I let it all go (and believe me, it took every ounce of willpower I had to let it go!). Didn't make dinner, no cleaning up. Went into work. Came home at midnight and, oh lord, it was horrible. Went to bed. That continued for about a week....I was almost to the end of my second shift schedule. I didn't do anything. My last night of second shift, I came home from work. The kitchen was spotless. Not a dish in the sink, not even a spoon. Nothing in the dishwasher. I never said a word, just smiled to myself and went to bed. It never happened again; they always cleaned up after that when I was on second shift.

Anyway,
  • Breakfast for the kids, 3.25 miles on the treadmill, made the bed, grabbed a shower
  • A quick vacuum about the house
  • Must do PT stretches and crunches
The plumber didn't get there yesterday; he called last night and said they got held up with a badly flooded basement and ran out of time. He's coming in today.

  • Breakfast for the kids, 3.5 miles on the treadmill, the usual morning stuff
  • I need to put gas in my car over lunch today. I was going to stop at the gas station on my way into work, but was running late.
  • Staying at my co-worker's house tonight to cat-sit. He is going to the Springsteen concert tonight. And he's worried sick about his boys. I kept telling him that the kids will be fine and I promised that I won't leave the house at all tonight. I will stay with them until tomorrow morning. I promised him 100 times that the boys would be fine. He gave me two sets of house keys (in case one set doesn't work, even though we tried both of them). He gave me the garage door opener. He is in panic-mode. I went up for a trial run last night; I know how to feed them. I know where the scooper is. I know where Da Bird "sleeps" when they're not playing. The boys will be fine!

Rick is coming up for supper; I think we'll just order in a pizza. We'll watch a bit of tv (gives Rick a chance to check out DirectTV) and then he'll go home to our kids. I'm bringing my exercise mat and my dumbbells, so I can do my exercises.

The plumber did get here yesterday. The softener needed a new filter and needed to be reset. It was re-charging this morning while I was on the treadmill. So that's taken care of.

awww, the poor man! i'm sure he'll be worried until he's back home with his boys.

today i've not got much going on -- just completed a couple days of chores. i'll check on the pork roast i've got thawing in the fridge and scoop the litter boxes. after that, i plan on doing some reading, playing some computer games, and watching some tv shows.

Your co-worker sounds like our kind of person. He needs to become a member. We need more cat loving men on the board.

Yes- the boys are in more than capable hands. If you can handle the antic of divas Molli and Muffin you can handle anything :lol3:

Honestly the man would fit right in on the board; he's truly a great cat-dad and he just adores his boys. He doesn't have a computer, just his cell, and he doesn't have internet service.

He just called me to say that he was leaving, but wanted me to know that the cats might be at the door when I come in and he wanted to make sure that I'd realize that. And to be careful when I unlocked the door to come into the house. He was very specific: Open the garage door, walk in, shut the garage door all the way. And THEN I can unlock the house! And then we went through the food routine again, even though I went up last night and fed his boys while he watched. And even though he wrote it all down. I don't know who's worse, a cat mom or a cat dad! :lol3:

Oh, and then he asked me to please check for mail, BUT again be careful when opening the door because the cats will want to get out. And maybe I should check for the mail while the cats are eating their canned food, so they won't come with me to the door. :D

Dear lord, if anything happens to those boys while I'm there, I will never forgive myself! :jaw:

Everything is going to be fine. Does he not know about the six cat circus you live in with The Beast as a supporting act? If you can handle them, you can handle anything.

Oh yeah, he's met the Clan. He was driving Clarence for a while when his car was in the shop and he met everybody then, except for The Beast. He knows I really try with our kids. But it's different when it's your own kids. I know that when we go away, I'm on the phone every single night with our petsitter, just to make sure everything is OK. And then I text with my sister, just for back-up support! She'll text me pictures of the cats, so I know they're still alive. :lol3:

When I was still going home at lunch, right after we got The Beast, he came home with me one day, to meet the Beast and to watch the show. He was amazed at the routine I go through with our kids. He has two cats and says that sometimes he feels overwhelmed. He can't even begin to think about having six! With a Beast!

Winchester, enjoyed your post in reply to mine.

Yesterday afternoon we had an invasion of flies. No clue why they came in the house or how they got into the house. It was truly horrible. There were at least 100 in various spots downstairs, especially in kitchen. The sheer in my vestibule between our 2 front doors was smothered in them. Could not sleep last night because I knew 1st thing I would go to the hardware store for fly strips. Bought 16 of them & have put them in various places. Will totally lose it if they return in the p.m. Have asked husband to cover food if he is cooking, etc., but most likely he won't.

One year, when I was at my dad's apartment, I went upstairs to get something from my old bedroom. I found a couple of those 'fake' ladybugs in there, on the wall. I thought it was unusual, but got rid of them.. these things really smear, even when you do not kill them. They excrete an orange substance...

Later, I went into his bedroom, and found a few more, near the window. I looked at the wall, and there must have been at least 30 of them in there!! I was appalled!! Horrified to be exact!! No matter how many I got rid of, I had to use the suction on the vacuum to do so, they seemed to multiply like tribbles from Star Trek!! OMGosh!!

They kept coming and coming. This was on a Sunday. Had to call emergency maintenance to check out where they were coming from.. turns out there was a nest in the attic!! We had no access to the attic. The next apartment did.. so they must have come through little tiny holes..

{{{{{{{{shudder}}}}}}}}} reliving it...

Another time, we had a few yellow jackets in the cellar... turned out to be the same thing.. there was a nest in the attic next door..

The apartments had an adjoining wall and bulkhead... that was scary also....

We've had many things in our house. Definitely the worst is bats. I cannot abide a bat in the house - makes me hysterical. Many years ago, bees/wasps? had a nest in the ceiling of our dining-room. Eventually the ceiling wore away & they started flying through the house. For some reason though they were very "dozy" and drowsy & not at all predatory. Can't remember how we got them out. Another thing I cannot abide is ants in the house. Ugh.

Thanks!

We had a fly invasion one time and it was ugly. We still don't know why it happened; there was no food out or anything rotten. I opened the kitchen window and most of them flew out. I killed the rest of them and then scoured every inch of the kitchen. Ugh. That was years and years ago. It hasn't happened since and, again, we have no idea what brought them in.

I hate stink bugs and the other year, we had an invasion of those buggers. Every once in a while, I'll see a fake ladybug crawling around...I just take them outside. I think the "ladybugs" come first, then the stink bugs come after. The stink bugs feed on the fake ladybugs.

We have a mini ant problem again this year. Rick keeps spraying the perimeter of the house and that seems to have kept them at bay pretty much.

So today.....
  • Just got back from my co-worker's house, took care of his cats this morning, came home and am enjoying my coffee. He has no coffee!
He has cappuccino k-cups for his Keurig 2 machine, but no actual coffee.  So no coffee til I got back to our house. Meanwhile, Rick took care of our kids...they had him up bright and early. Me? For the first time in I don't know how long, I slept like a log until 6:30! Wow! My co-worker's cats let me sleep in! I'm not used to that. I fell asleep on the couch last night around 11:00, awakened around 3:30, dropped back off to sleep and slept til 6:30. The cats finally came into the living room and said, "OK, Auntie Pam, feed us!" (He also has no internet access, so I spent last night reading for a while and then Rick came up and we watched a few episodes of The Gilmore Girls on TV....yeah, I always liked The Gilmore Girls
; I started watching reruns because Jared Padalecki from Supernatural played Dean in the earlier shows. And then Rick and I both got a little hooked.)
  • Rick wants to get his hair trimmed this morning, so we're going to hit the mall. While he's having his hair cut, I'm going to look for some shorts; maybe I can find something on clearance. My shorts are almost falling off of me; I can pull them down without unbuttoning them and they look ridiculous. I'm thinking of trying to start walking over lunch next week as our temps are supposed to be considerably cooler. But I need some decent shorts as it will still be too warm to walk in jeans, I think.
  • PennState plays at noon, so Dear Richard will be glued to the TV pretty much all afternoon. While he's watching the game, I'm going to do some cleaning back here in the computer room. I'd like to go through some bureau drawers, too, and check out some t-shirts and summer stuff.

today i'll be making a new (to me) recipe, braised pork ragu. i've got the pork thawed, the carrots and onion diced, the two cans of diced tomatoes set out on my kitchen counter, and the spices measured out already -- so it'll just be removing the fat from and cubing the pork, and the actual cooking to do today. i'll freeze the pork fat, saving it for making pork cracklins coming up.

i have some documents to get together, scan into my computer, then email them. and the usual daily chores -- wash the dishes, scoop litter boxes, and take the trash out.

i'll also make either some pudding or a batch of jello.

it's forecast to be hot here today, so the ac will be turned on shortly and will stay on until this evening.

@mickNsnicks2mom, how was your pork ragu? It sounded really good.
  • Back to the morning routine with the furkids this morning, then I hit the treadmill for 3.5 miles while Rick scooped the boxes and dumped out the de-humidifier. I worked on two loads of laundry, too.
  • I think we're going to close the pool today. Rick's leaving for Oregon this week and he wants to close it now, so he doesn't have to worry about it when he comes back. We're going to be heading to Vermont later on this month, so we need to get it done now. He shocked it last night and has the chemicals, so it's just a matter of a good vacuum, throwing in the winter chemicals and slapping the cover down. We don't even have the lower the water level; we're so dry that we've been afraid to add water to the pool as we're on a well.
  • A good vacuum and dusting about the house today. I want to wipe down the kitchen and bathroom, too.

oh my goodness! the Braised Pork Ragu turned out incredibly good! i always read the reviews for recipes, before making them. and so i'd read that some reviewers had a problem with the ragu thickening properly. when i made the recipe, everything went very smoothly with it until the thickening part. i let the ragu simmer for the 30 minutes in the recipe, plus 25 more minutes. still i was seeing a little more watery-ness to it than i would have preferred. so i added about 1 1/2 oz of tomato paste (was suggested by some of the recipe reviewers), stirred it in, and let that simmer for about 4 or 5 more minutes. that made it absolutely perfect, and very delicious. i was thinking i'd serve the Braised Pork Ragu over a (microwaved) baked potato, mushed up a bit, but after tasting the finished ragu, i'll be serving it over some penne pasta with a little grated parmesan cheese over it. i usually cook a day ahead of starting to eat my meals, because i prefer to cook in the morning -- i don't like doing a mass of dishes late in the day. here's the recipe, for anyone interested in it -- http://allrecipes.com/recipe/213799/braised-pork-ragu/

today, i washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, have a phone call to make, and then will watch a movie. i'll boil the penne to go with the ragu later this afternoon.

I worked from 7am-3:30 pm today.  After work I scooped out my cat boxes, ran an errand, went out for dinner.  Now I am doing laundry.
