it's been incredibly busy for the last couple days, and i had exhausted myself. but i slept well last night and am ready to do a few things today.
  • dump the wood stove ash pan, then add more wood to the wood stove
  • will start out my day with a little quiet time at the computer
  • give snick her sub-q's, then her breakfast
  • move more firewood onto the living room log rack
  • give jasper his breakfast, then make mine
  • make a batch of potato cheese soup
  • wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, take the trash out, and bring in the newspaper
  • hopefully finalize the arrangements for something i've been working on

  • Going to try again this morning to get my picture taken for my driver's license
  • Frost my Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Cake (with whipped peanut butter frosting) My GF's DH's favorite birthday cake is this cake with this frosting. He gets it once a year, when I make it for his birthday. Rick is happy because he's going through serious sweets withdrawal (and he gets to eat what's in the frosting bowl!
    )
  • Just the standard clean the kitchen a bit, do a quick vacuum (that I'm going to try to talk Rick into doing), a quick Swiffer about the living room, and scoop the boxes. I probably should wipe down the bathroom, since friends are coming tonight.

  • Going to try again this morning to get my picture taken for my driver's license
Third time was the charm! Got my picture taken finally, so I'm good for another four years. I had been driving the past two weeks without a valid license, largely because I always wait til the last possible moment for stuff. My fault. But I'm legal again.
(It's not really a bad picture either for a change.) There was a woman in the photo center who was waiting for her picture, too. I had my winter coat on and my red scarf. The woman asked me, "Is that scarf, by any chance, Fraser Red?" And then she smiled; she was an Outlander fan! I said, "Why yes, as a matter of fact, it is!" She said, "OMG, really?" And yeah, it is....that's why I bought that particular plaid. I specifically wanted Fraser Red.

Anyway......I think it's going to be a cooking day today.
  • Need to make some vegetarian vegetable soup and look up some other healthy soups & stews for the freezer (we are seriously low right now). If I have everything I need to make some vegetarian chili, I may throw some together, too.
  • Replenish the muffin stock in the freezer, too. If I really feel ambitious, I'll make some yeast rolls. I feel like baking, but not sure what I want to bake.
  • General scooping, laundry, all that good stuff

  • gave snick and jasper their breakfasts
  • gave snick her sub-q's, then she ate more of her breakfast
  • moved firewood into the living room, to fill the log rack up again
  • went out and shoveled off the driveway and i front of the mini barn, and both doors/entrances to my house
  • made my breakfast
  • re-stocked the canned cat food rotation. i keep stacks in rotation order on the floor along part of one wall of the kitchen, makes it easy to know what canned food is supposed to be next in the rotation
  • washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, took the trash out, and brought in the newspaper
  • will fine tune february's budget, and go over my shopping list for this coming saturday -- seeing what i can trim off the list
  • i'm sure i'll be taking a nap sometime today

Well, it was just nasty coming to work this morning. We got about five inches of snow and now freezing rain and sleet are coming down. The roads have that icy slushy stuff on them and it's not good. Rick brought me into work and he just texted me that he got to work safely. He said he got behind somebody who was only driving about 30 mph and he said he had to pass the car; he couldn't handle being behind it all the way into work, not with all the braking the driver was doing. He passed and was able to drive a little faster.

I don't think we'll get much done tonight, other than cleaning out the driveway. It's supposed to get really, really cold (although the Weather Channel has now posted a 1 F low for tonight instead of the -9 they had been posting) and all the slushy stuff in the driveway is going to get rock-hard if we don't get it out of there. So cleaning the driveway is first on our list. And right now, it's the only thing on our list.

If we manage to get the driveway cleared out, we may go for a few groceries. But I wouldn't bet on that.

We didn't make it for grocery shopping last night. Rick worked on the driveway a bit, then came inside and said, "That's it. I'm done. Enough." I had dinner ready and we pretty much called it a night at that point. So tonight:
  • Rick is picking me up from work and we are going directly to the store. We really only need cat food, but there are a few items on sale that I'd like to get, just to take advantage of the sale prices. I put my list, my coupons, and the bags in the car this morning.
  • Work on the driveway again...it's pretty much rock-hard at this point, even with the salt we've been putting down, but we're to get more snow on Thursday, followed by another storm Sunday into Monday, so we need to clean what we can. As it is, it's all Rick can do to get his truck up the driveway; he still hasn't bought new tires for the truck yet. So he's been taking me into work, then driving Hannah right now. Which is fine with me as then I'm not driving in all this snow and ice. We've both pretty much had it for the season. (I don't know how you New Englanders are dealing with your messes up there. We don't get nearly what you do and we're sick of what we have.)
  • Probably another early night again. (We're both really pooped right now.)

I have three more pieces of clothing to iron this morning.
I want to clean both bathrooms.
Maybe start getting my things together for taxes.
Spend time with my cat, cuddling on the sofa.

Another morning/early afternoon at the shelter, so

  • fed 50+ cats and scooped their boxes
  • showed a trainee the ropes
  • washed down all the doors to the cat rooms and catios (not a great idea with temperatures below freezing, but it really needed doing

this will be for yesterday --
  • gave snick her sub-q's, and both cats their breakfasts
  • moved more firewood to the living room log rack
  • shoveled the snow off my driveway and away from the entrances to my house and the mini barn -- about 12 inches, with the drifts being deeper
  • gave snick a little more breakfast, then made mine
  • dumped the wood stove ash pan, then added more wood to the wood stove
  • washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, took the trash out
  • worked on my current big project -- the utv purchase
  • took a nap in the early evening -- i'm sure i needed the nap partly because of the snow shoveling this morning

today will be a nice quiet day, thankfully.
  • dump the wood stove ash pan, then add more wood to the wood stove
  • give snick and jasper their breakfasts, then make mine
  • wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, take the trash out, and (hopefully) bring in the newspapers -- no newspaper on the heavy snow day, so i should have two papers to bring in this morning
  • write up my "to do" list for tomorrows busy day

  • I sorted three piles of laundry on the hallway floor to wash tonight
  • Trash night, so clean out the litterboxes. And looks like I'll be doing them by myself because Dear Richard threw his back out last night. All he did was roll over in bed and he felt it go. He did make it into work this morning, but I don't know how long he'll last. I think he should have stayed home. He has meds with him, so he'll have to see how it goes.
And that will be it, I think.

Wednesday mornings are my knitting group (except for the fourth Wednesday, which is garden club.) So this morning I have
  • fed the cats and scooped their litter pans
  • made a fire in the wood burning stove, built on the coals of last night's fire
  • unloaded dishwasher
  • took a container of leek and potato soup out of the freezer to thaw for our lunch
  • need to cut some bamboo for a friend's cage bird finches
  • Paul will, shortly,  give me a ride down the driveway on his ATV to where our cars are parked at the bottom of the plowed but iced over driveway
And we'll see what the afternoon / evening brings

Haven't done much today except feed the cats and go to work. Tonight I will:
  • Wash the silverware
  • Cook our dinner for tonight
  • Plan out some meals for the rest of the week and
  • start meal planning for next week as we will be taking a Costco trip this weekend
