A lot of you have these delicious things like blue crabs... but I've got you all beat!

Rochester, New York is WELL known for something called a garbage plate. There's a seedy restaurant here called Nick Tahoes that makes 'em. There's some variation available, but the best way is 2 burgers (no buns) atop homefries and cold mac salad. Burgers are topped with cheese if you want and onions, and hot sauce. And it MUST be eaten all at once, not separately. Just take a forkful of burger, mac, fries....mmmmmmmmmm!

You're not a Rochestarian until you've had one. Many restaurants around the city try to replicate Tahoe's garbage plate, but there's nothing like the original.

Oh and if it's still moving when they serve it up to you, just stab it a little with your fork and dive in.

If you go to this site there's a nice picture of the hot dog version.

Speaking of hots, we also have Zwiegles red and white hots, Red Osier roast beef and prime rib, Tom Wahls homemade rootbear floats.... I love this town!

We don't really have anything too weird around here - unless you count Vegemite, and I've never met anyone NOT from Australia who likes that.

Except Jennifer (Sharky) - she actually didn't mind it as a seasoner (I sent her a jar with her SS package last year...).

It's super salty - pretty much just a spreadable yeast - but I LOVE it!

And people like various combinations of things with vegemite - I like it with lettuce, but I've never met anyone outside my family game to try that. Max likes it with cheese, and the lady I work with likes it with mayonnaise, which makes me want to barf, personally

Another popular favourite here is Chicko rolls, but I've never had one, I never will have one, and I don't intend to try one, ever!

Lived in Texas for a while and you can't beat their Tex-Mex food. Being so close to Louisiana, there was an outstanding cajun influence there also.

Was raised in a German/Polish family and married a Pole. We eat lots of Kapusta, sausages, peirogi, spatzel, etc. Slavic food mixes ethnicities well. I've learned to cook the recipes in the areas that I live in. I've yet to find a pizza in this town better than mine.
Shout out to KC MO! Woot woot! And also, Northland yeh!!

Anyway, yes, what you said—BBQ. You're required to like BBQ if you live in KC.

As for the pizza—tried Minsky's? It's pretty darn tasty.

I guess alligator, frog legs, hog head cheese & turtle could qualify as strange.
my mom's from SW Louisiana - & we like frog legs & crawfish!
as well as gumbo, etouffee & dirty rice
that's probably why i don't know that many regional dishes - the ones i think of are all from her home! altho the BBQ is good & the Tex-Mex

Mackinac Island Fudge
Pasties (thanks to the U.P.) - haven't had them yet though
Faygo Pop (hence where the term "pop" came from instead of soda)
Better-Made Chips
Corn

Ah yes! Pasties! My mother's family was from the UP, so we ate them all the time growing up, eh?
I remember all of Spartan Stadium singing the Faygo song during football games (after a number of drinks that I am pretty sure were NOT Faygo!)

Also, if you think Manchester, we have a lot of Indian foods due to the Curry Mile!

Also, in Liverpool, Merseyside and Wirral, we have Scouse
and corn beef hash!

You can also get the best scampi!!

I'm sure there are tonnes more, but just can't think after reading all the other posts!!
