I believed for a while that Catholics were cannibals.
I was raised protestent (a variety of different denominations...since we lived in small towns you went to whatever church was available). But kids were never in the room during communion.
My great-aunt and great-uncle were Catholic. I was very young, and knew that this meant they were different, but I wasn't sure how. They invited me to go with them one evening when we were visiting to a special Saturday evening guitar mass. I had a great time, until they got to the communion. They started talking talking about the body of Christ and the blood of Christ, and people started eating and drinking it!! I was horrified!!!
To learn that my beloved aunt and uncle would do such things!! I believed that I had learned what was so different about Catholics...and it was awful!!!
Fortunately, another aunt noticed that I was acting strangely during our next visit and straightened me out.
BTW...I married a Catholic, and his family dearly LOVES teasing me about this.
