Thrift stores, overstock stores and Petsmart coupons helped me stay under budget. Postage is another matter.

I thought the same thing.
I have stayed under budget, but I've been really trying to stretch it as far as I could. And I'm not counting cookies in the price factor.

I went a few dollars over budget, but I was really lucky and got a lot of great stuff for free or for really cheap because it was on sale, or I had coupons.
I know its going to seem like I went way over budget too - but in the end, I didn't!

I'm a bit over, but several bargains/deals made it possible not to go seriously overboard.

ETA: Hit submit too soon.
Dear SS, I'm not going to be looking at $$ -- it's the thought that counts, and I know you shopped/created in the spirit of a fun exchange with friends.

I didn't go too much over. I had a wal-mart gift card that we won at work so technically I only paid my money for the cat toys. And the wal-mart card was for exactly $15 and I will have you know when I got to the check out it was only 3 cents out of my pocket!!

But I agree its not about the money. Its the thought. If there is nothing in my package but some cat nip I will be happy that someone thought of my family!

That's the truth......it's not the amount of $$ people can spend, it's truly the thought!

I'm making something for my SS and its retail value would be way more than the materials I used. I may go a bit over, but it's because chocolate is involved...

BTW - I dreamed I was shopping for cat toys last night!

I would love to have something handmade by the giver any day! It just shows you put a lot of thought into your gift and that is really special. And chocolate makes any gift better!

I am guilty of not staying within the budget, I admit it.
Can't help it - I LOVE to give pressies!!!

Anxiously awaiting to hear if my SS liked what I sent out!

Don't worry - I know I'll love it! It's the thought and the love that counts.
