Good Morning and Happy Sunday!!

I was pondering this the last few days. This would have been my 28th wedding anniversary but we got divorced after 6 years of marriage. We were married in Lake Tahoe, Nevada at Harvey's Casino, hee, hee.
They have a lovely chapel that overlooks the lake and the wedding took place at 6:30pm. We then had an amazing meal at the restaurant on the 17th floor, after that...........💖We then went to Yosemite and Napa Valley.

What was your wedding(s) like? Your dress? Tux? The food? Any drama?

Mine was very boring. Decided on the Wednesday, bought something to wear Thursday, got the wedding rings on the way to the registrars on friday and got married half an hour later. Went home and told our family. Back to work on monday. It lasted 19 years.

The wedding was great, and after, we drove as far as we could then spent the night in some little motel in CO. spent our first day together in Estes Park.
BEFORE the wedding was a different story. The night before he went out drinking with his relatives, he fell down a ravine and lost his wallet, with his ID, (he was 21) AND our wedding license. Somehow we got a copy or something on short notice, and a farmer did find it a month later! We couldn't drink at several places because of his not having his license. Then, bringing down my wedding dress from the town we lived in, we got married in his home town, it was brought with the flowers which tipped over and got all over my silk dress. (grandmother sewed it). They didn't tell me, got it to a cleaners, and once again on short notice saved the day. Then the air conditioning decided to quit, it was in June and a hundred plus degrees. The groom and most of his groomsmen almost passed out from the heat and drinking the night before. The wind was awful too, I have a picture of my new husband holding on to me when we tried to run to the car and the wind wrapped my wedding dress around me to the point I could hardly move! But it has a happy ending, we have been together for 42 years, quit drinking on 2000 New Years Eve and lived happily ever after! Even after building and remodeling over 30 house together!

We started planning a wedding, but the thought of getting two families together in one country, one that spoke no English and the other that spoke no Japanese, was just too daunting.

Instead we got married at city hall, just the two of us. With the money we saved from not having a big wedding we went on honeymoon for a whole year. We visited 20 countries altogether. That made a lot more happy memories than a one day wedding would have done.

It's our 16th wedding anniversary this month.

We just had the city hall wedding. We were married in Germany, actually at that time it was West Germany. Everyone has the city hall wedding then if they want they can have some type of religious ceremony. I don't know if it is still like that or not but the city hall ceremony is the legal marriage and that is all we had. We took our own two witnesses with us and we went to McDonalds after.

Now that's sounds sooo good as I'm a big fan of Bic Macs, fries, doublecheeseburgers, and there is something so good about
their fountain Cokes.

If Michele would have had her way, we would have eloped, but she didn't want to disappoint her mother, so we had the church wedding. We had started planning while I was still in the service, and we didn't get married until a year after I got out, so there was plenty of time. There was nothing fancy about the service or reception- it was held in the local fire hall because there were so many relatives on both sides. Michele made her own dress on a foot-powered Singer sewing machine and my tux was rather plain. It was hot that day, and I was sweating so much that I couldn't pick her ring from the book when the preacher held it in front of me, and later we both got sick from the heat. Our honeymoon was a week at my uncle's cabin in the Adirondacks, where it rained every day while we were there. We must have done something right, however, as we're going on 48 years now.

I've always wanted to go there.

I was 16 and pregnant; Dear Richard was 19. Our wedding was more like a funeral. Everybody was upset and there were lots of tears and not the good kind. It was just our two immediate families because Rick's mom wouldn't attend if there were more people; Rick had a mustache and his dad said he wouldn't go unless Rick shaved it off. He didn't and his dad attended. My grandmother was beside herself and wouldn't go to the wedding, although she did stay at my parents' that night for a reception. Rick's minister had just moved to town and ours was his first wedding. The music was a good funeral dirge. I was scared to death and so was Rick. Mom and Dad had a very small reception at the house after the wedding. We spent the night in my parents' camper and had breakfast with my family the next morning.

We just celebrated 49 years.

We got married in Tennessee at a bed and breakfast that also doubled as our honeymoon suite for the week. We decided to go with the B&B because it was an excellent excuse to not have a big wedding, mainly because a.) expenses and b.) the idea of having lots of pairs of eyes on me made me nauseous. The owner allowed 10 guests, which was perfect for both of our immediate families to attend. B wore a suit that he already had (a medium gray with a white undershirt and a navy tie) and I ordered my dress off of Amazon for $60.

It was very, very cute. The owner's wedding package included a photographer, a small wedding cake, a bouquet and boutonniere, a minister, and snacks. The weather was beautiful, clear and warm. We got married outside beside a small little water feature she had on the property. The only thing I wish was better was the photographer. I don't think she did any sort of editing to the photos, which I guess is alright, but I'd have liked to have some shots of my edited some, and the lighting was meh in several shots.

There was some drama but it was my fault....the day of the ceremony, she was chatting with me and asked about our marriage license...I said, uh, I though you had that....so off we went to the courthouse, to be married in a matter of hours, to apply and get our license! Fortunately, it was a very quick process (they get a LOT of elopements in that area), but I thought the owner was going to pass out. Fortunately I was very, very laid back (always have been) so it wasn't too big of a deal.

Afterwards, my uncle took us to a local restaurant, which was delicious. After everyone left, we had the week to explore the mountains and do some hiking, we went fly fishing for the first time, saw a bear or two, and ate the best freaking breakfast food I have ever put in my mouth at the B&B (she won awards for her food). I would love to go back, but we will probably never be able to afford it again!

I live kinda near the Adirondacks, well 2 hours away or so.

I never got married! If I ever do, it will probably be at the courthouse. I don't like spending a lot of money. Or maybe a small party with dancing and food. You all know how much I love music! Not sure about the church, because I don't have one right now.

Never married, single gal here

But if I ever do, I would want a small, elegantly classic wedding. At a Historical church and venue, with soft light pink and ivory roses everywhere. I don't want to spend a lot of money (I would rather put more money towards an awesome honeymoon and travel) hoping to achieve quality over quantity.

I was excited to get married but unfortunately my mother-in-law ruined the experience for me. Suffice to say she was a very opinionated woman. I wanted a somewhat small dinner in a private room at my favorite restaurant with close family and friends but she wouldn't hear of it. She even tried to change our plans for where we wanted to honeymoon. She manipulated my parents into having our wedding her way. My parents were extremely loving and did not like confrontation. As the saying goes, "when you marry someone you marry their family too." Oh well, that was many moons ago and my husband and I have been together ever since.🤗

ETA: I will say this, my mother-in-law mellowed in her later years and we got along much better.

My mother-in-law was just the opposite. The only thing she wanted was a church wedding for her oldest daughter, and it didn't matter whose church it was. Yes she was very opinionated, but she treated me like another son, and not some interloper.

:flail:

Funny story, though I'm sure it wasn't so funny at the time.

We had a small ceremony at a hotel in Carmel, with a reception there afterwards. I'd found a white dress for under $100 at a local shop and hubby had a regular suit. My brother-in-law took photos. Just close family and a few friends. We hadn't lived around here for long and didn't know many people. We didn't have any money for a big wedding anyway and neither of us would have wanted one if we did. We spent the night in Big Sur and were back to work on Monday morning. We just celebrated 35 years last month. 🍾

There is a disappointingly severe lack of wedding photos in this thread. Crop out heads if you must - I want to see dresses!

Anyway, I think there might be a thread about my wedding on this site somewhere...

Oh, boy. My wedding photos are in an album somewhere in the attic covered in 25 years' worth of dust.
