Unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the
Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Everybody Hurts - REM (that song reminds me of the hard time I had as a teenager dealing with depression)

Lately I have also gotten emotional over the song Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel, not because it's sad, but because it's so touching

Here are the lyrics:

Bridge Over Troubled Water (4:55)
P. Simon, 1969

When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes,
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
When you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

"Going Home" by Mary Fahl. It was used as the theme to the Civil War movie "Gods & Generals" and in that context, it really gets me right in the throat like I could bust out crying at any moment. And her haunting voice doesn't help matters either!!

They say there's a place
where dreams have all gone
They never said where
but I think I know
It's miles through the night
just over the dawn
on the road that will take me home

I know in my bones
I've been here before
The ground feels the same
though the land's been torn
I've a long way to go
The stars tell me so
on this road that will take me home

Love waits for me 'round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And I'll know what I've lost
and all that I've won
when the road finally takes me home

And when I pass by
don't lead me astray
Don't try to stop me
Don't stand in my way
I'm bound for the hills
where cool waters flow
on this road that will take me home

Love waits for me 'round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And we'll know what we've lost
and all that we've won
when the road finally takes me home

I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home

Amazing song...I mentioned it in my post earlier. Have you ever heard Elvis' live version of this song...oh my goodness...gives me major goosebumps! This song has always reminded me of...you guessed it...my kids

My hubby thought it might have been appropriate for he victims of Katrina...

This is gonna sound weird, but Silent Night. I cry when I hear it. For some weird reason, it is strikes a chord in me (of sadness). I think it's because I start thinking of those I love, who are no longer alive--at Christmas. Also, because of the story about the Germans singing it in camp on Christmas Eve during WWI, ad the English singing back in English to them; I think about how they must've missed their families so badly. I always sing it (when I can choke the words out, it's that sad for me!) in German--it just seems appropriate. In Germany/Austra, I believe they won't publicly perform Silent Night until Christmas Eve. Such a beautiful song, and the story behind it it, too. (The composer was set to play it for the 1st time in church on Christams Eve, when he discovered that mice had chewed the bellows of the church organ, so it had to be played on guitar. I've always felt there was symbolism in that--even when things seem hopeless, faith will sustain you.)

Another tear-jerker for me is U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for", "..you carried the cross of my shame." Love that line. Also, their "Running to stand still", based on a true story about a young couple who were so poor, they resorted to drug smuggling/drug addiction: "I see 7 towers, but no way out." I always prefered U2's earlier works, before Bono became "The Fly"!

And "Amazing grace", especially on the bagpipes. Go figure...

The National Anthem

Your Still You and To Where You Are by Josh Groban
Most traditional Chrsitmas carols
Wind Beneath Your Wings - Bete Midler's version
...this list could be endless for me!
Don't feel bad--I just posted about Silent night, and have been boo-hooing the whole time! I can't even read Xmas cards in the store, without turning on the waterworks!

I also cry during the National Anthem.

Nope you're not weird. Most religious songs (Christmas or otherwise) give me a lump in the throat, and Silent Night is one of them. If it is sung exceptionally well, then I'm a wet heap on the floor.

Auld lang Syne is why I HATE New Year's Eve--I find it sooo sad.

You're so right about Silent Night. When I was three or four, we were living on an Army post in Germany, on the third floor of an apartment building. This was only 14 years after the end of WWII, and there was still a great deal of emotion (I now understand) on the part of the Germans who lived near the post. We Americans were both saviors and occupiers to them, and painful reminders of a long period of madness in their country. It was a tense relationship at times.

On Christmas Eve, my parents had let me fall asleep on the sofa so I could watch the lights on our tree sparkle, but at some point, they woke me, whispering, and told me to listen. The door to the stairwell was open, and I could hear a very soft guitar and someone singing. The lone caroler came closer, and finally passed our door... an elderly German man with a classical guitar, strumming quietly and singing "Stille nacht, heilege nacht," as he walked up and down the stairs in our building.

I've never heard a more beautiful rendition of that song.

Thank you!

It's also why I can't go to Christmas Eve service--I feel so silly, with tears streaming down my face.

The song "What Hurts The Most" doesn't get me as much as the music video for it.

I saw you. I saw you.

And, of course, Kenny Chesney's "Who You'd Be Today," both the song and the video.
Speaking of New Year's... Same Old Lang Syne, by Dan Fogelberg.
LeAnn Rimes' "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way."
And I'm sure there are dozens more... like I said, I'm a weepy mess.

Ohhhh! I remember another one that always makes me cry. It's by Solas. It's called "Last of the Great Whales"

Drat it and I'm sniffling now, just by reading the first line or two.

Lyrics:

My soul has been torn from me, and I am bleeding
My heart, it has been rent, and I am crying
All the beauty around me fades, and I am screaming
I am the last of the great whales and I am dying

Last night I heard the cry of my last companion
The roar of the harpoon gun, and then I was alone
I thought on the days gone by when we were thousands
But I know that I soon must die, the last leviathan

This morning the sun did rise, crimson edge to the north sky
The ice was the color of blood, and the winds, they did sigh
I rose for to take a breath, it was my last one
From a gun came the roar of death, and now I am done

And so since time began, we have been hunted
Through oceans that were our homes we have been haunted
From Eskimos in canoes to mighty whalers
Still you ignored our pleas, none came to save us

Oh now that we all are gone, there is no more hunting
The big fellow is no more, it's no use lamenting
What race will be next in line all for the slaughter?
The elephant or the seal, or your sons and daughters?

My soul has been torn from me, and I am bleeding
My heart, it has been rent, and I am crying
All the beauty around me fades, and I am screaming
I am the last of the great whales and I am dying
