I used to work with an Indian girl that would bring curried green bean sandwiches to work - they were so good that her mom started sending an extra for me.
One of these days I may make Butter Chicken from scratch just for the experience, but the Patak's paste is really good, and it makes a quick and delicious meal. I like to do Gujerati Green Beans with it -- also tasty and quick.

If you can find the Patak's sauces in your supermarket, get the Butter Chicken one -- you can get either a single use jar that you do nothing (or almost) to or a similar size jar that you use a few tablespoons from for one recipe. I prefer the latter, but they are both good. The recipe is on the label, but here it is as well.

I usually serve papadums, rather than naan or rice, simply because I adore papadums. Patak's offer them, too, very good, very easy to do. I use the garlic ones, and I do them in the microwave.

If you want to do the beans, too, here is that recipe.

Good luck. Have fun. Bon appetit!

My uncle went quahoging and got quite a few, so I am making stuffed quahogs and chowder.

No, it's a UK company, and they are available all over the world. Use either of those sauces -- I think the one called "Butter Chicken Sauce" is the single use one and the other is actually "Butter Chicken Curry Paste", actually an ingredient for the sauce recipe -- from this one you use just a couple of tablespoons along with other ingredients. If you have a choice, you might want to use the single use one, to see how you like it, so that you don't end up with a barely started jar in your fridge if it's not to your taste. That's what I did in the first place, and was pleased with it, so then I felt confident buying the other.

They do have Pataks in the US - try a whole foods or international food shop...you should be able to find something. The Patak brand is great, I use it all the time!

I was pretty sure they would be in the US. And you're right, I have yet to try anything of theirs that wasn't excellent.

When I lived in the US, I was shocked that there weren't many curry places like we do have here, and so I dragged hubby to this supermarket called Fresh Market that specialised in international foods/organic foods. There was also another supermarket called Earth Fare that sold Pataks.

That's interesting that there aren't many supermarkets carrying these products in the US. They're everywhere here, from Safeway down to the Mom&Pops and everything in between, as well as the specialty places. Guess there's not as much demand?

It is quite surprising! I cannot live without my Pataks - I love my Tikka Masala, Cashew Chicken, and Mango chicken!

I've been threatening to get into some of the others -- got stuck on Butter Chicken
-- now I have all the incentive I need.

When my SIL made her first visit to Canada from Branson, Missouri, she and her adult daughter spent several hours in one of our large grocery stores. She said they couldn't believe all the different products we had available here.

For you ladies that love your curry, my friend taught me to make this to go with curried dishes and it is wonderful:

Melt about 1-2 tbsps butter (you could use margarine I suppose but you'll never find any of that in my house
), add about 1/4 cup finely chopped onions, cook to just sweat the onions, add I'm guessing about 2-3 cups shredded cabbage (I just slice the cabbage in long thin strips), stir over medium heat until the cabbage wilts a bit, add from 1/2 to 1 cup shredded coconut, stir together and serve as a side dish with your curry. Fantastic!

Bon appetit! If you like green beans, try the Gujerati recipe -- easy and very tasty and goes nicely with the chicken. I think I'm doing this tonight for us, too. We're due, I have everything I need, it's a low fuss meal. What more could we want?

ETA: that side dish sounds very interesting, Linda. I'll observe the KISS principle tonight, but it won't be long before I give that a try! I've already copied it into my Food and Drink memos to go on my PDA.

DD had eggs on flatbreads, I had a veggie mix (cukes, carrots, brocolli, mushrooms) on small flatbread.

For dessert: I had a frozen yogurtsicle, DD had a drumstick
