I enjoy travelling a lot! The last time I went on holiday abroad was last summer to see friends in France. I ended up also travelling all around Provence. I also went on a short trip to Dorset last September which was my last domestic holiday. My next holiday will probably be in March to visit family in Ireland.

Italy, 2018.

(I was suppose to go to Scotland in March 2020 but, you know...)

Goodness I am due  After a crazy last few years, with two jobs, Covid/Essential worker life, my dad's poor health, dealing with difficult personalities and doing grad school, definitely need an actual break and have a taste of travel again. Been suffering a bit of burn out. Currently planning on going back to Europe this summer :yess:

I'm grateful since my mom loves babysitting her grandcats too! So no worries there.

Some friends of mine were going to leave their entire clan with us in March 2020 to go overseas, and of course that didn't happen. Their trip didn't happen until a year and a half later!
I'd love to take a cruise some day. But I've accepted that's probably never going to happen.

Literally right behind you, same place in '97. I absolutely loved it though.
Did you ever go down river a few miles to the Butterfly Conservatory? It's just past the Whirlpool rapids and Spanish cable car. We were there several years ago, but for us it's a day trip- only about 40 minutes to the Rainbow or Lewiston- Queenston bridges. You go inside and sometimes the butterflies will light on you as you walk through it.

No, we didn't. :( But if I had the chance, I'd do it now in a heart beat because I love butterflies. (One of my friends knows how to do wing transplants on Monarchs, I didn't know such a thing was even possible until we met!)
When we went to Niagara Falls, Canada in '97 I was 14 years old. I went with my parents and my best friend from junior high (I can't even imagine trying to take someone else's kid out of the country today.) It was a really fun trip. We stayed in a hotel that was a 10 minute walk to the horseshoe falls. Lots of fun stuff to do for everyone, I really liked it up there.

2015 - I went to Michigan. For my parents' 50th anniversary, they took trips with me and with my brother (two separate trips). We went to Sault Ste Marie (where they had lived when I was a baby), Mackinac Island, and Tahquamenon Falls among the main highlights.

Does going to Tasmania to look after my Brother after an operation count? It was a bit holidayish as it's where I was born and I have a lovely time with old friends. That was a year ago.
I'm planning a trip here. It's only twenty minutes to the car ferry, then 45 minutes to cross, but it's a whole other world, with the most stunning beaches. And easy to get back if there are any issues with the furries.

A year ago this month I spent a week in Mexico--half in Mexico City and half in Oaxaca. I love Oaxaca and am planning another trip there in April of this year.

I loved it too. The falls were absolutelya breathtaking, especially on the Canadian side.
Did you go on the Maid of the Mist? I didn't, and I don't even remember why but I kind of kick myself for it. I was surprised at how loud the falls were! My Grandma did a large puzzle of the falls, had it framed, and gave it to me for Christmas about 15 years ago and it still hangs in my room.

Yes, we rode the Maid of the Mist. They gave us rain coats to wear and it really got close to the falls. We would have been soaked to the bone if not for the rain coats. That was sweet of your grandmother to give you the puzzle. I bet it took her to a long time to put it together. I still have a couple of T-shirts that I brought there and I sleep in them.

I remember seeing people in rain coats and coming back soaked!!! We stood on this little look out tower right next to the falls and used those little view finder things to get closer looks. I just love that puzzle, not only is it a picture of something I love but knowing she put it together makes it all the more special. I honestly don't remember if I have any souviniers :(
I remember the morning we were set to leave I was really sad and very tired as I hadn't slept well, we went to this little Mom and Pop breakfast place and ordered some food. They gave me my hot chocolate, and I took one sip, went to set it down and it fell off the table and there was hot chocolate and broken mug everywhere. I was so embarrassed but they were so nice about it.

That's funny. My mother said when I was about 3 years old they took us to Niagara Falls. Whenever we ate out she said I would knock over the glass of whatever I was drinking. It got so bad that none of the servers would come to our table.

Should you ever visit the area again, take a ride to Lewiston for the jet boats. They take you upriver to- and through- the Whirlpool rapids. They have open boats for the adventurous, and enclosed ones for the not-so-adventurous people.

Back in October 2022, we went to Vermont with my brother and SIL.

I love Niagara Falls! We always stay at a B & B on Niagara-on-the-Lake.
There's this one place where the water is just getting ready to go over the Falls. I could sit there for hours and just watch. Even with all the people around, that one place seems very peaceful for me.
We've done the Maid of the Mist, Behind the Falls, and all the touristy stuff, so when we go, we do our own thing now.
We have pictures of being at the Butterfly Conservatory. It's truly beautiful with all the butterflies. They were all over me.
We always have at least one dinner at the Angel Inn. I love it there. Said to be haunted, but as long they keep the Union Jack flying outside, the ghost doesn't do anything.
Check out the Botanical Gardens. Truly beautiful.
We like to visit the wineries, too. And hang out at the canal locks to watch the cargo ships go through.
We haven't been up in a while (Covid), so we're due again. It's one of my favorite places to visit.

We have our share of wineries on this side, too. Both Niagara and Chautauqua Counties have their wine trails; not as extensive as the Finger Lakes, but enough that by the end of the day you can get quite a buzz on.

Now I really want to go back to Niagara Falls!
We got into NF around 11:00PM. I remember driving down this boring road, half asleep, and we arrived and it was like being shot with adrenaline, it was SO bright! I was wide awake, immediately.
We were given strict boundaries on how many blocks we could travel, with even more strict instructions to check in at designated spots at certain times. A few times, we ducked over the boundary to cross the street to go into a store we really wanted to see. Once, we did this, and when we were in the store (outside the boundaries) my parents walked in. Oops. (They weren't mad, but reminded us not to take a mile if given an inch!)

The first time I was at the Falls was in 1961. It was the last day of the school year, and an aunt and uncle were visiting from Rochester, Minnesota with their kids. My father was working, so my mother, my siblings, and me piled into their '57 Ford wagon and away we went. The next time was for my senior class banquet, at what later became Fallsview Casino. Michele and me spent a weekend there in '97, for our 25th anniversary, in a motel in the Clifton Hill area. We had dinner at the Skylon Tower, next to a couple from Ireland. Ah, for the good old days!
