Our silver black spotted girl Platinum was bred to our brown spotted boy, Loki.
She had her babies today, Nov 26th, the day before Thanksgiving.
She's a seasoned mom, so this was all a piece of cake for her. The only nervous beings, were us. She started giving birth around 6 am and by 9 am, when I had to leave for work, she already had 5 kittens.
By noon, she was done, having delivered 8 kittens total, with 7 alive and thriving. Unfortunately one was stillborn. Platinum has 8 nipples for feeding, so maybe having one left over for rotation is a good thing. She has successfully raised as many as nine kittens without incident, so we are confident she will do well.
Of course food for her will be piled high and be plentiful to keep her strength and milk supply up. Naturally it is of paramount importance to keep the queen fat and healthy during the nursing period. Platinum is a smart girl and eats like a pig while nursing, so she doesn't become rail thin like some queens do.
So anyway, I'm starting this thread to chronicle this litter. I know some of you may be interested in what it takes to raise a litter of pedigree'd cats.
What we know so far:
~7 viable kittens, all spotted, maybe 3 or more silvers, too early to tell. Hopefully all the kittens are still doing well by tomorrow.
~Haven't checked gender yet.
~Platinum looks content, clear eyed and calm. She has this "I've got this down, no worries" look on her face.
~I should have gotten a pic of her prior to delivery, she looked like she swallowed a lumpy sleeping bag.
~first baby pics coming soon.
