It is the polypropeline bowls that retain bacteria and old food smells. What you need is scratch resistant melamine that are far more hygienic and do not put cats off their food. Melamine bowls are inexpensive and will not break easily.I know of two types of melamine, one is anti slip made by Snugglesafe and the other is not anti slip by Ancol. Snugglesafe also provide a drip tray on their website that catches spillages.Originally Posted by ScamperFarms
Ok so I was reading an article and it stated that plastic bowls are bad. Because they retain bacteria. Alright so it makes sense. But my cats break ceramic, and will not eat out of metal. So I have plastic. But i clean it every other day generaly..does that make me a bad pet momma?
Wow that is fancy!!!Originally Posted by dawnofsierra
Sierra and I really like her new dish. It is situated nicely in it's little stand and not very easy to knock over and break. I wash it thoroughly after each meal. There is a wide variety of cat feeders available on line similar to this made of different material, glass, metal, ceramic...all elevated in a little feeder which holds in nicely in place. Although, I have tripped over the little stand several times when I forgot to remove it when picking up her dish!Wonder if this would help prevent your kitties' dishes from getting broken? Just a thought.
my crew seems to like the corelle dessert bowls (the size smaller than the cereal bowl). i also have a few sets of "cat" bowls in ceramic and metal. nobody's real picky around here. i was using elevated bowls (similar to the ones on that Jo Sherwood Products link) and i might go back to it. but mine were actually floating candle holders, and the bowl part is the same size as a corelle dessert bowl. i may go back to them because i think they liked them better.Originally Posted by zak&rocky
Sometimes I use Corelle cereal bowls. They are about 2.50 new at Walmart. So far I only had one break, and that's because one of us dropped it at a funny angle.
