OK - here goes. We're adopting a daughter and she needs prayers.

I really can't thank everyone enough for thinking about Naomi and caring what happens to her! That in and of itself is a world apart from where she was. !!!!!!

I just echo what everybody else has said here Laurie. It's great to hear such a positive update on Naomi. Even though she is not at home with you and Gary, the difference that you have made to her life is incredible. She was battling the mental illness anyway - but at least now she is dealing with it in a caring and supportive environment, free of dope. You are both truly wonderful

Continued good vibes for Naomi's sustained progress in her new community.

wow so I just read 34 pages of a threat over the past 3 hours. Well I skimmed some. But I just want to say
for taking such great care of someone society had forgotten about. You are truly an Angel!
And its a great thing that you found her a safe place where she is happy! Kudos to you for that!

By the way, I read a really good book written by Kurt Vonnegut's son (Mark, I think?), who suffered/suffers from schizophrenia, and it was very eye-opening.

Wow - I can't believe you took the time to do that! It is quite a story - and this is only a teeney part of it!
Thanks for the time - and the good thoughts.

I seem to spend most of my free time (and stealing time I shouldn't again) on TCS these days.
But I'll have to look into this. Thanks for posting about it.

Laurie ~ I haven't been here in ages but I stumbled across this thread. I am in awe of both you and Gary. Naomi was definitely meant to cross paths with you and she is where she is because of both of you. She is safe.

God bless her and keep her safe. Her picture is worth a thousand words and those eyes are a telltale sign of her life.

I was reading all the posts and reading your replies. I miss you.

Please take care and I hope all is well with Gary.

I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

(((hugs)))

Thanks, again so much for all your thoughts, prayers, good wishes and vibes for Naomi.
It really means so much to us.

I really had to share this, because it's just too cute. My birthday was Sunday, and a birthday present arrived from Naomi this morning - how sweet is that? She sent me a Miss Kitty little metal pencil case (she loves Miss Kitty stuff).

I guess she really is stuck at about age 11.

Gary and I are thinking about taking the cats and the RV up to VT in April or May if we can manage it. He won't fly - and though it's the right place for her, sometimes it's just so unbearably sad that she's so far away.

to all,

Laurie

I am so glad to hear that Naomi is thriving there. I read this thread a while ago and just went through all the updates.

My cousin passed away in 2004 from an overdose of OxyContin, and she was just 22 years old and left behind her 2 year-old son, and your story gives me hope that not all addicts end up the same way.

Naomi is really lucky to have you and Gary, even if you don't see it as luck.

Luck, fate, Universal Will, God's Will..... whatever it is, I feel blessed to have her in our lives, and I do believe everything happens for a reason.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin.
There are just so many teens that get hooked on this stuff, it's scary.
A friend of ours has a son who's girlfriend just became a paraplegic because she was driving on Oxycontin. (Thankfully his son wasn't lying - he tested clean for drugs). It's a horrible drug.

Gary has to see a pain management specialist because of the intense and severe pain that he suffers all day, every day for two years now. The doc tried OxyFast on him (oxycontin in liquid form and immediate release, not extended release like almost all pills of any narcotic are). It didn't help with the pain at all - but got him higher than a kite. Gary took the bottle back and told him he didn't want it. I remember when he first tried it - he looked at me and said "I understand why so many people get hooked on this stuff so fast." It was really scary.
