I am so happy she came through the surgery, and the specialists were there to help the surgeon see her through. :hugs:
Do they have a time frame for complete recovery?
As strange as it's going to sound, I am glad they did the feeding tube just on the slim chance her appetite isn't the greatest for a few days, and this is one less thing you'll have to stress and worry about as she recovers. Sending her gentle pets and hugs. I hope she can come home tomorrow.

Whew, heard back from the surgeon a few hours ago. LiLi made it through and is stable, but the surgery was very rocky and they were glad to have an anesthesiologist to keep her stable because if the surgeon had been doing it herself she may not have made it. Apparently her blood pressure was all over the place and caused them more than a few panics.

Really makes me wonder if the shelter neglected to tell me how she was during the spay and honestly if I knew we might risk losing her during the surgery I probably would have made other choices, but I digress.

There wasn't any foreign blockage, but the pylorus was narrowed most likely causing the issues. They did the Y-U pyloroplasty. Feeding tube is in so she comes home tomorrow as long as she continues to improve over night.
Oh thank God🙏I was waiting prayerfully & glad to hear she is stable PLUS the Y-U sounded like the best long term resolution, giving her the most and closest to a normal opening.....

Try to get some rest tonight, you're going into work this morning? Praying fervently for baby LiLi,precious little girl❤🙏

Struggle bus girl just had to continue being on a rollercoaster last night. So apparently she ate on her own her first two small meals, rather eagerly. But then after that refused to eat so the feeding tube already got it’s use and she did fine with it. But then the second time she was not happy about the feeding tube at all.

Apparently due to her tiny size no matter which tubing they use the size is weird and she was getting air bubbles around it, causing discomfort and some swelling. They did an x-ray and her tummy is distended a bit but nowhere near as bad as before. Apparently their recovery area isn’t completely separate from the dogs area, so she was getting very stressed by them walking by.

The surgeon offered to keep her another day at no charge since the tube and stress was most likely what caused the issue and they would like to remedy that before she goes home. They changed the wrap that held her tube in place to bandages to support and seal it better and will be taking care of her for today.

Honestly this was a blessing in it‘s own way because I was stressed about the drive plus having to work immediately after getting her home. They offered to let me visit but I told them it’s an hour there then another back, they didn’t realize how far it was and were shocked lol

Bonus photo of LiLi’s recovery cage I prepped yesterday, including a homemade pillow. IMG_4301.jpeg

Thank you for updating us; please keep us posted. You must be exhausted from all of this and Lili is so lucky that you adopted her.
Thank you! Honestly I’ve just been trying to keep busy and not think too much about everything so thankfully it’s mostly physical exhaustion rather than mental.

So many people have told me how lucky she is to have me, but it feels weird to think about because I have considered euthanasia. I feel like I should put that out there purely because if anyone else were to read this in the future whatever doubts they have about their choices, the costs, chances of recovery, etc are valid And I’ve totally gone through all the mental juggling of options.

I am so happy she came through the surgery, and the specialists were there to help the surgeon see her through. :hugs:

Thank you! I think they said the first 5 days are the critical period then 2 weeks until she’s back to being mostly normal.

Not strange at all, after reading up on it and your advice when it was brought up in her pre-op appointment I was adamant thatI would much prefer her have one just in case.

The surgeon will pass your pats along, apparently she put LiLi on her lap this morning when she did the exam and she was very happy to have the love 😭

Thank you 😭. Same, it also means they thought the opening was extremely small which reassures me that was a large part of her problem.

Yep work in a little while now. Finally passed out after posting that message lol

The vet/surgeon sounds like a lovely person and truly interested in the care of the pets and not the extra money for one day boarding.

The fact that you considered euthanasia does not mean a thing. A kitten this small with this problem...probably many would have opted for that. You are a real hero!

Short update because I don’t want to start the waterworks again while stuck at work. She took a turn for the worst and they can’t figure out why, it’s not her incisions or the surgery but she’s just not doing well. Surgeon offered to let me see her but I can’t drive all the way out there tonight especially with me needing my job to pay the bill either way.

GenCat GenCat I am so sorry to hear this :( Do they have any shot in the dark guesses as to what is going on? Maybe she's nauseous etc.?
Just try to remember, she's in the best place possible. She will receive monitoring from caring experts.
:hugs: Try to hang in there. Hopefully they'll know more soon and she'll begin to improve and be able to come home soon.

They are befuddled, the surgeon told me all five specialists are in there wracking their brains as to what is causing it but basically “shock” due to the surgery is the only general thing they can come up with but she said that even seems strange due to the fact that she did so well immediately after then suddenly started becoming lethargic this evening.

Trying to mentally tell her to get off the dang struggle bus and be healthy already 😭

Gosh, you did everything possible. It just wasn’t meant to be. I’m so sorry. I know this is devastating. Lili knew she was loved, but she was definitely suffering from her condition. You did the right thing in seeking treatment. Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss of this precious baby. :hearthrob::rbheart::angel: Run free now, Lili!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. The surgeon and her team were so so sweet to us. At some point that evening they had all five of their specialists working with her and trying to figure out what else they could do. At some point in the future I want to make a more in depth follow up on my thoughts and feelings, as well as what things I might consider doing differently just in case someone in the future finds this thread but I’ll be giving my heart plenty of time to heal before considering it.

I’ll be moving to crossing the rainbow to elaborate on the non-medical side of things.

Again, thank you all so much for just…being with us from the beginning to the end.
