He seems to be doing just fine without the pepcid, so I guess I'll just forgo it for now since he is giving me a hard time with it.

I will increase the SEB.  He loves the stuff.  He saw the syringe sitting there waiting for him and started licking at it :)  so I put a little on a plate and he licked it right up;.  I was able to give him the entire amount that way!  YEAH!

I weighed him again.  Friday he was 7 pounds 5 oz.  Today he is 7 pounds 14 oz!!!  that is 9 oz in just 3 days!  he barely ever stops eating all day long.  which means lots and lots of pooping LOL

Wow, that is amazing that he licks up the SEB. Wish my kids would do that! I find it has a slightly "nutty" taste, so it isn't unpleasant at all. Good boy, Pretzy!!

Awesome that he's putting the weight back on.

How are his poos looking? Is he still as interested in dirt as he was?

As of last night he was still licking up dirt near the shoes.  I haven't seen him do it yet this morning, but I will watch him.

His poos are a normal brown color and there are an insane amount of them LOL  I've never seen so much darn poop!  But, then again, every time I see him his face is in the food bowl. :)  Making up for lost time I suppose! :) :) :)  He was always my 'needs more sleep' cat, but since he's been eating again, I never see him sleep.. probably bc he is always eating haha.  eating and wanting to be loved :)

I am just over-the-moon happy Pretzy just continues to improve!!
Regarding his "lots of poos," it could also be that he was a bit constipated during the worst of his illness and that is contributing a bit to this. Of course the eating a lot more too, and the foods you're feeding, can contribute to this.

You need to get your cat to a new and better vet PRONTO because the one you have sucks.  Even a few days of not eating can cause a host of other medical problems that weren't part of the initial problem.  I think your cat was poisoned and needed to be on IV fluids for a few days immediately as a start.  That may be too late now.  And quite frankly, why would you ever leave your cats hostage in any room with any chemicals of any kind?  You need to start thinking like a cat in order to protect them from themselves - curiosity - they learn by smell, touch and taste.  Syringe feeding is dangerous - I did it per my vet and my cat aspirated - that means fluid got into her lungs and that finished her off -  was trying to help her and instead I hastened her death and never forgave myself.  Since then - do not harm and listen to your inner voice - if what the vet is saying doesn't seem correct - it probably isn't.  Try boiling some white chicken meat and shredding it and offering that to her with some chicken broth on it to get some food in her.  Good luck to you and your cat.

Wow!
I have been following this thread and it's great to hear he's on the mend! I love reading recovery stories, they make me feel so happy for the cats, owners and the world in general seems a better place!
Good luck to Pretzel!

Wish I had answers. I can only say I'm sorry, and I hope he responds to the things you have tried.

Great to read that he is on the mend !!! Perhaps as a reward you should start letting the cats walk around in your house at night. Maybe even come to be with you in the bedrooms. Cats don' t really break things or mess up.vn

We started putting them in the bathroom at night because they were running around the place playing chase etc LOL.  We were being kept up all night long.  I wish they'd just stay in the room and sleep with us!  Maybe I can try it again.

Well, in a former life, I owned a paint store.  Please tell your vet the oil based paints are toxic and truly, so are water based ones. especially before they're dry.  Please read the paint can.  You are advised to use in a well ventilated room - you had your cat in a closed room with all those fumes.  They could have harmed his lungs not to mention what drinking the water could do to his tummy.  I would call poison control and see what they say.  Then I would check with another vet.

I'm really sorry to hear about your problems with kat, I know exactly what it's like not having the money for vet.

I don't know much but elevated white cells usually mean some sort of infection.

Are there any other vets in your area who 'specialise' in cats?

'My' vet has been working with cats for over 20yrs, he's expensive but I trust him to do whats best and not just 'put it to sleep' (Kat-Kat gets into all sorts of scrapes on a regular basis)

I don't have a cell phone, house phone is cheaper, plus I don't have any real use for one (most people don't NEED one if they really think about what they use it for)

Anyway, maybe some sort of probiotic may help? dark poop usually means excess iron or internal bleeding?

Kat-Kat loves to eat Activia (vanilla flavor)

He used to like plain yoghurt, until I put worming medicine in it, now he wont go near the stuff

No idea if it's bad for him but it's easier to feed him some than try to keep him away from it (he only gets about a teaspoon full, loves to lick out the 'empty' pot as well)

When it gets to the stage you run out of idea's and money, almost anything is worth trying.

I hate to see pussycat suffering, anything that makes them more comfortable is good in my opinion

(Kat-Kat is curled up on front of lazyboy under my leg at present, it's like a little hammock for him)

I hope things work out and your kitty gets better soon

Hi, sorry about sheshes problem, no cats shouldn't eat paint, it has lead in it, maybe should try another vet, until then you can go to gnc, or amazon i got this item quick, and when they forgot the free treat they promised they sent me another bag of the one i purchased first, it's called l-lysine it's wonderful my sadie had a breathing problem at night, scared me to death the vet said it was like pneumonia from the herpes virus all cats have  well i gave it to her it's cheapest at marcs, unless you need it asap also most cat stores like petsmart ect have it, it looks like a treat it's soft and smells good she eats it up, one in am and one in pm, it cleared up her goo in her eyes and stopped the breathing problems at night started working in a few days i am keeping her on it for a while maybe a log while to make sure it is a god send really as for not eating go to another vet don't take the chance of loosing your precious little one there gods gift to us and it's up to us to help them good luck and please let me know thanks sadies owner

Folks be aware that this thread was started in September 2012. The poster last posted in this thread in February and her cat was doing good then.

I would not give the cat anything unless prescribed by a vet b/c herbs are a chemical.  The cat surprises me that he would drink paint water as they are finicky, but if theres nothing else around.  I wouldn't put them in the bathroom at night as cats are night prowlers.  I am going to go w/the person that wanted to know what is in the paint and call poison dept and tell the vet (u r doing his job) by calling poison control to find out ingredient and what is powerful.

really surprised cat would drink it but I think he would b/c of more than 1 cat around.  I got my info from animalplanet episode.  I hope you call the vet again and see if they can see him at a lower charge?

I agree w/ Carolina. I would trust her advice! I know it's hard & frustrating, but please don't give up on your kitty. If you do, he will sense that, & it's not a good energy you want him to pick up.

I totally understand the financial situation, I have been there, but the care credit payments are pretty small & manageable. I was struggling check, to check (& single ), & last year, Angel got a UTI that also

came back twice as cystitis. If I didn't get care credit, I wouldn't  have been able to do all I had to for him.

I don't know your financial situation, but I will tell you this, (because it may not be as  much as you think it will be)

After all 3 "episodes,"  Aug, Oct, & Christmas day. (yes, Christmas, so of course that was more expensive having to go to the Animal Hospital, because of it happening on a holiday).

EVERYTHING, (all 3 & follow up stuff etc..)  ultrasounds, urinalysis,, visits, etc.... My care credit bill was around 1,000.00, BUT, payments were only $25.00!

(I doubled it when I could to help pay it down, but even now, w/interest kicking in, it's still only $38.00/mo. right now. )

I hope that helps.

I will pray for Pretzel!

Keep us posted
