Ok darn it! I typed this long report on how Jake did at the vet and when I submitted it, thd darn thing disappeared and didn't post!

Well, the news isn't really good for Jake. He is worse then he was Friday and Saturday. His temperature is higher (105.5) and with the antibiotic and anti inflamatory, the vet said it should be down to around 100-101 by now. She said his paws are slightly better but not what she expects. His eye and ear are worse. The sore area around the eye has gotten bigger and spread to the folds on and around his nose and over to the inner corner of the other eye. He's losing fur all over and looks terrible. Poor boy.

The vet gave me an additional antibiotic to give him with his other one twice a day. I have to continue to give him the anti inflamatory and cleaning his boo boo's twice a day. She also said it may help to give him a tepid bath and that may bring his temp down a little or at least make him a little more comfortable.

She also took a small tissue sample from his toes to culture. I'm taking it to the lab I work at tomorrow. We have an animal pathology lab that will run the culture for me for free. That helps cuz the cultures are expensive. She collected the sample for free to help me and Jake out. I have to call her Monday to let her know how he's doing. What a mess poor Jakey boy has gotten himself into. I feel so bad for him and so helpless.

Tam-

Still holding on to good thoughts for you and Jake. I wish I could be of more help. Is there a feline specialist near you that your vet would refer Jake to?

I'm going to start asking and calling around first thing tomorrow. I'm hoping that the culture will tell us what kind of bacteria we are dealing with and then it will be easier to make sure we have the right antibiotic. But the culture will take 3 days to grow. And for now, I'll keep him on the two he's on.

I'm so sorry sweet little Jake is not improving just yet. He is still constantly in my prayers. This must be so incredibly painful for you, Tammy.
Feel better, precious Jake!

Ive just read this post,,,,,,You and your precious little baby boy are in my thoughts and prayers,,I will pray for you until you bring word of his recovery. Please keep a strong front up for poor Jakie, I hope that he is not in too much discomfort from all of this sickness. It is so hard for me to hear about other meowmy's babies problems, I cant help but cry. I truly, with all my heart, hope that your baby is going to be okay, that you can hang in there, and that somehow, you can keep up his really expensive treatment if it does get to that. God Bless, and hang in there. Conner sends light and gentle kitty kisses to sweet handsome Jake.

I'm not really sure how Jake is today. I really tend to doubt myself now. Every time I think I might be seeing a tiny bit of improvement there really isn't any. I have to stop and buy a new thermometer today. When I got home last night I dug out my old thermometer and the darn thing doesn't work anymore! He did seem a bit more active last night when I got home. He jumped up on the cat tree a couple times. And when I came in the door he popped his head up looking to see who was coming in the door. And he responded a little bit when I called his name (turned his head and looked at me). Those are things he hasn't been doing.

I hear ya! But when I think he's better his fever gets higher and his sores get worse and grow. Uuuugghh! So I don't know if he is getting better or if it's just a mind trick on myself because I want him to be. I'm betting you went through the same thing with Sierra!

Hey everyone, guess what!!?? This afternoon Jake's temperature is down to 102! Can you believe it?? I can't! I want to check it again to make sure but he is not happy with me for sticking that thing up his butt. lol Anyway... I went to KMart and bought a digital thermometer that only takes 10 seconds for rectal temps. What a good decission that was! Man that new antibiotic works really fast. I did some research on it and it's actually for skin/staph infections. Not sure why the vet didn't give him that first. It's cheaper too. Half of the price of Clavamox.

We'll see how it goes. But he still might end up losing some of his toes. Or he might end up having to be declawed. Don't freak out people! This would be because of medical necessity ONLY! His claws are black and some of his toes have been eaten up a bit by the infection.

Anywhoo... I have to go hug Jakey and tell him I'm sorry for the rectal intrussion!

That's such good news!!!

I sure hope he doesn't have to lose any of his toes or claws, but if it's the only way for him to fully recover than it would be necessary.
Sending good health vibes to Jake!!!
