Presumably you know it can be dangerous for humans to give birth, am rather surprised you couldn't extrapolate that to cats and all other mammals. You seem to believe she NEEDS to have a litter (that's an urban myth), you have let it happen, I sincerely hope you get her spayed after this litter is born.
As to pedigree breeders thinking like that - we do understand the risks, we minimise them by only breeding from healthy cats, not breeding too often, knowing when they are due and rushing to the vets whatever the time of night or day if necessary. A C-section in the middle of the night can be pretty pricey...
