Fleas

I brought a stray into my home January. He was sterilized and pronounced clean, no fleas. He was in a bedroom two months and then moved to all areas of the house. I noticed him scratching but saw nothing. I felt a few itches here and there but no obvious bites. Tonight, 3 months after his arrival, I found a flea in his fur. I killed it and am now freaking out. We live on Cape Cod. He is an indoor cat. I have a dog (who has a Sorresta flea and tick collar). What should I do? I can get boric acid and foggers. I can do the foggers Sunday when the weather is warm and I could put the cat outside for two hours.  HELP

BTW, my house is entirely carpeted

Sounds like kitty needs a flea collar, too, or regular topical treatments.
