Thanks so much to all posts on famciclocir. My 15 yr old was within a week of losing her eye when I got her to a wonderful kitty ophlamologist in Denver Surburb last Wed. She prescribed famciclovir, oflaxin drops, and a pain med. And she explained how the stress of having a cold and having six accessed teeth pulled was likely the cause Herpes taking hold. And how the nerve root is to the eye in cats, not to the mouth as in adults. Long story short, Miss Curry isn't the best pill taker, and reading every post in here brought me to pill pockets with a water chaser. She still doesn't like it, but it is less mess than tuna! And I finally have her corralled in one bedroom with pillows stuffed all under the bed. We share the room during the day when I come in to read and she has guest visits from our other cat. This is an old mid- century home with a basement and for two days her stress and mine were increasing, not decreasing as she ran ad I chased. She can still hide a little, but is more resigned to the situation. I should have paid attention to tell beautiful opthalmologist vet on that score in the first place! We go back to her in 5 days. We didn't have bus this morning on day 5, so hopefully we will save this little kitty's eye and although my guilt will never be assuaged, it will have been lessened. Oh yes, her own vet called and said this wasn't there in July, just no tears, but on her follow-up when the alternate vet prescribed a steroid along with the Ofloxacin, the hole in the cornea just went haywire! 7 days later Miss Curry and I were in VRCC and being treated. I couldn't have made it without finding this website. So many thanks for all your suggestions!
