THE CAT AND THE MOON
by: W. B. Yeats (1865-1939)A beautiful night tonight. When I went out the sky was indigo blue and the moon was just a sliver short of full and silvery with little Venus right next to it.
HE cat went here and there And the moon spun round like a top, And the nearest kin of the moon, The creeping cat, looked up. Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon, For, wander and wail as he would, The pure cold light in the sky Troubled his animal blood. Minnaloushe runs in the grass Lifting his delicate feet. Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance? When two close kindred meet, What better than call a dance? Maybe the moon may learn, Tired of that courtly fashion, A new dance turn. Minnaloushe creeps through the grass From moonlit place to place, The sacred moon overhead Has taken a new phase. Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils Will pass from change to change, And that from round to crescent, From crescent to round they range? Minnaloushe creeps through the grass Alone, important and wise, And lifts to the changing moon His changing eyes.
All my cats showed up tonight! Mamie was sitting on the rooftop silhouetted by the night sky, looking very catly and beautiful.
Red has undergone quite a change. Lately he not only comes almost every night, but he runs to the bench with the other cats and when I call their names he does a drop and roll like Louie-Louie. I always find that so charming. Then he shares a pile of food with the other cats instead of hanging back and waiting till everyone is through. I wonder if our encounter in the parking lot before he skittered into the storm drain made a difference.
No vet visits today. I thought my daughter was going to call me, but didn't realize my house phone ringer had gotten turned off and my cell needed charging.Graycie will have to wait again.
Roll Call: Alfie, Blackie, Dude, Henry, Josesito, Lady Day, Louie, Mamie, Oscar, Red, Sneakers. 11 Total.
