Just wondering with our far and wide membership, what's the most odd/disgusting/strange thing you've ever eaten?

I went to Florida as a kid and tried frogs legs and catfish
Accidently ate a fly once whilst riding my bike

Sure I must have eaten worms as a child (didn't everybody?)

I've also noticed chicken's feet at our local Chinese restaurant

So, fess up, what's the oddest thing you've eaten?

During the "bush" phase of my military training we had to eat locusts, ants and worms.
Not as bad as it sounds, the only yucky part was ripping the heads off the ants and locusts before you eat them.

I have also eaten crocodile (quite bland), waarthog, different types of venison and giraffe.

That's a good question.......actually I'm pretty particular about what I'll try. If it looks and smells bad, I won't try it.
So I'll have to go with a habanero pepper. Wasn't so much disgusting as painful. That is one vile pepper!
I don't know for sure, but I think drain cleaner might be less harsh than that pepper.

Ack!

This is going to sound so lame, but: okra. Blech. I keep trying it, too, because I think I should like it; it's good for me. I just can't. It tastes good, but the slime. O the slime!

I like most other things I've tried, though. I've had oysters (fried); those were good. And alligator is good ... sort of tastes like a cross between fish and chicken. Rocky Mountain oysters are pretty tasty too.

The thought of eating bugs is kind of blechy, but I would be willing to give it a try.

A garlic snail...I still shudder just thinking about it.

Nial ~ the trick to eating a habanero is enough milk and some mayonaise...lol eat a teaspoon of mayo before hand and drink a glass of milk afteward. It still burns but not quite so insanely bad. You actually feel like you have an inside of your mouth!

Black pudding in Ireland, and then I found out what it was.
I am getting sick just thinking about it!

I thought it was great too! I didn't find out what was actually in it until I got home.

well, most would think blood sausage is disgusting, but I found it quite tasty. Haggis, w/a bit of Glenfiddich poured on top, is delightful! And when I tell my friends what's in the scrapple in my scrapple-n-egg sandwich, invariably they wrinkle their noses (dern Westerners - don't know good food when they see it!!)

The most disgusting thing I've ever tasted though, is octopus nigiri (sushi). Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE sushi, but I cannot stomach octopus - the texture is just wrong!!!

Black pudding was one of the worst things I've ever eaten, and the texture of it was like having sand in your mouth.

The other thing I tried that was the most disgusting thing I have eaten was chicken's feet.

Blood/black pudding and Haggis are two of the reasons I'm very glad I don't eat meat! Just the thought........*shudder*

Olives are another one - I was told they are an acquired taste, and I certainly haven't acquired the taste! I tried one once, and now even the smell of them makes me feel queasy! Still love olive oil on salads though...odd

Cyber cat - are chicken feet crunchy? I imagine them to be like twiglets! just curious?!

Alaskan Ice Cream- looks great, all white and fluffy with betries on top but it is in actuality whale blubber and shortening (Crisco lard)

Oh my life! And people eat that???

Actually reminds me of my Dad - when he was young they used to eat pigs trotters, bread dipped in lard, and sugar sandwiches!

I haven't tried anything like ANY of the things listed here. As a matter of fact, I can't think of one thing that even comes close to being as disgusting!! Especially this early in the morning! Joe likes calamari, that's about as gross as it gets around here. I've tried it but just do not like it.

My ex ate fried cows' brains. Ugh.

I might regret asking this but what is black pudding??

The grossest things I have ever eaten was calamari once (squid) I took the tiniest bite, and the other thing was when I went over to my boyfriend's friend's place one night for a spaghetti dinner.....after the fact they told me that the sauce was made with vennison (deer meat)..I didn't talk to my boyfriend for days after that!!

I've eaten all kinds of "weird" things:
I love sushi of all kinds, gimme a big old slab of raw salmon and I'm in heaven!
I've also eaten:
Squid, octopus, chitlins (those were my least fave, probably), ostrich, kangaroo (tastes like lean beef), I really like spam and scrapple, I've eaten alligator too, and I've tried sweetbreads, which are cow brains (and a testament to the fact that anything tastes good if you fry it)

BUT, I won't eat: oysters, mussels, clams, or mushrooms.
I'd rather eat kangaroo again than a mushroom! It was actually quite tasty.

Calamari, IMHO, is only good if it's the fried kind, with a side of spicy marinara for dipping...now I'll be thinking about calamari all day!

A couple of years ago, I went with my dh to his grandparents for x-mas. They are portugese, so they have some interesting favorites.
Sorry Erica... I tried Blood Sausage(which is EXACTLY what it says). I always say to try everything at least once though. There are no words to describe my disgust.
The other thing was lobster. I HATE all seafood!!! I knew this, I tried to eat it anyway to be polite. I sat at the table gagging and tears running down my face before I had to excuse myself for reasons I am sure you can guess.
