It would be important for you to make sure her new owner spays her if you give her away. You wouldn't want another situation like how you got this little one! It's also extremely likely that she'd get out and get pregnant regardless of the owner's intentions.

Do you know what came of her mom and littermate?

Anyway, I applaud you, as always, for your care. You are clearly very thoughtful and your cats are very lucky.

Edit - I do agree that you need the support of a good vet, too. There are always emergencies.
I'm surprised you want to give her away.

Hi,
how's Sparrow doing now? I just wanted to chime in, since I have experience with keeping cats separated before being able to spay/neuter them (I had to wait many years ago to save up money). You just have to keep Sparrow in a separate room from the boys when they are alone or you are not able to watch over them. And definitely don't let her interact with them if she's in heat. That's it, it's not very hard
and I'm sure you probably already knew that. Of course, when she goes into heat it can be a bit annoying, but she will be okay, it is a natural thing. If you really feel uncomfortable having her spayed in Pakistan, I would wait until you could do it in England, because it is MAJOR surgery. Same for the boys too, but it's not as serious a surgery.

Also, here are some tips for researching vet clinics and veterinarians. Put the name of the clinic and/or veterinarian into Google (or whatever search site you use) and hopefully reviews will come up. In America, we are able to look up vets by license to see if they have any infractions, but I don't know if you can do that in Pakistan. Also, do you have any review sites like Yelp, etc. or online phone books over here will often have some reviews.

I've read about urinary issues if males are neutered too early, though there doesn't seem to to be clear correlation. Regardless, eating only dry food makes that a lot more likely. I wouldn't worry.

In regards to infection and anesthesia - that seems like a minor concern for the boys because it's such an easy, quick procedure. I would be more concerned about selecting a vet for the girl. Regardless, you have about a month to figure it out if you're keeping her before I would be concerned.
My boys are 2 years old and the other is just over a year, so I wouldn't consider that to be too early, right?

Haha yeah I saw, I watched a video of how they neuter them yesterday on YouTube. They have to cut the girl open right? Do they remove the entire uterus or just cut the oviducts and seal them? Yes, I think she's just over 3 months old now? I'm not sure, I can't remember the exact date that she was born.
I hope you're not forgetting your A levels madame?,
Haha no, A-Levels are starting on the 9th, yikes! I only have 4 papers to do, the rest were all done last year :-) I'm still revising! Sparrow helps me with that by watching me with lots of interest lmao. As I'm typing this she's nyooming around the bed REALLY fast, she's been doing it since 5am without a break! Today she sure is really crazy!
I'm surprised you want to give her away.
And I don't WANT to, I'm just worried about her getting pregnant. If an accident does occur though, I'd be happy to keep the kittens (I even have a few friends who would happily take in the babies) and look after them. It's just her wellbeing and the dangers of pregnancy that I'm concerned about.

Sparrow's doing great! She's turned into a right little crazy bugger and is almost ALWAYS running around! She never seems to get tired and hates it when everyone's asleep haha! The boys are staying well away from her as it is, I think they're too 'old' to want to play around with a fiesty little kitten. They're minding their own business and whenever she goes near them they just glare at her and she runs back off to me :-) I'll definitely keep my eyes open until they get neutered/spayed, and she'll be sleeping in my room (the boys sleep in my Mum's room anyway) at night, too :-)

I did a bit of research about it, and apparently it only lasts for a couple of days? I'm sure if I could handle Indie and his consistent wailing I'll be able to handle this little tyke! I will keep looking for a vet though, I just don't want to put them in any danger because i know that if anything DOES go wrong I will probably not be able to do anything about it. Small problems, I can handle myself, but an infection after a surgery, not so much :-( I think as long as they are happy and healthy and eating okay, I won't stress too much. Indie really has improved since I've got the outdoor enclosure, so hopefully everything will be alright :-)

Yes I've done that a few times! A lot of contriversial things come up though, with some people claiming that the vet killed their pet, but not elaborating on the point any more than that. The problem here is that people themselves don't know very much about animal care and tend to simply keep animals to show that they are rich. Most of my relatives have cats (mainly longhaired cats that they claim to be persians) in small cages with little more than kibble to chew on and very little interaction :-( It's sad but it's the way things are over here, people have little regard for their animals. When this babies dad was sick, someone threw him out and he simply wandered into my house covered in a whole load of mange.

And yesterday, too, my Mum witnessed a couple dumping three 3-week old kittens on the side of the road. She was about to go get them but the traffic was too dangerous (people don't stop over here when they see someone crossing the street). The kittens were 'coloured', which is more than likely why they were dumped. Mostly, people here only like pure white cats or siamese's.

No, it's not too young to get them neutered. Like I said, there's not really any evidence of this being an issue anyway.

Please, please do not let her get pregnant. Her body is so weak, and you don't even know for sure what's wrong with her. You have no access to reliable vet care. It could easily kill her.

Heats for females can last 2-3 weeks, and can start again within a week. It is very loud and very annoying. On top of that, she will be incredibly uncomfortable and working your boys into a frenzy. On top of all that, her health is at risk while unspayed. Pyometria is very common, as are reproductive cancers.

Hmm but almost every website I've been on has been saying that this is one con of them being neutered?

I won't do, she's too young to get pregnant anyway! I highly doubt if me or Mum will be happy with any of the vets over here so we will just have to keep them separated, it's something I'm willing to do. I had to deal with Indie's howling for a year, and it didn't have a toll on me at all. He's happier now MUCH happier, he never howls and only sprays about 3-4 times a day, sometimes not at all. He hasn't started spraying since she's been here either, I'll have to see how it all goes.

I know all about the health risks, I've done a lot of research on neutering and spaying. But this isn't a western country where everything is clean and 100% top-notch and sanitary. Hepatitis is a risk because of unclean instruments, so is infection and all manner of diseases. A large number of people over here also don't vaccinate their animals, so most vet clinics are full of disease themselves which makes me wary to take ANY of my pets to ANY vet. On top of this, it's in peoples nature over here to HATE it if people ask questions or try to correct them when they're doing something wrong. This, again, makes it hard for me to take my animals to the vet when I can't be sure what medication they are getting and if it will or won't harm them. There is no consolation over here, vets are mostly in it for the money and that's it - this is especially true for private vets. The government ones don't know what they're doing and mostly kill the animal rather than actually making it better. There's a lot of things I need to consider before I get them spayed and neutered. Trust me, if I was back in England I would get them all done as soon as possible, no matter how much money it costs. But you have to be so so SO careful over here. My pets, touch wood, haven't had any major major problems as of yet due to all the natural supplements, raw food and daily checks and cleans I do on them. As long as they're happy I don't see why I should risk their health even more than not being neutered/spayed will. There are so many things to consider and I will keep looking around for a vet that I can, hopefully, be happy with. But until then I will keep doing my best to keep them as healthy as possible.

Great to hear how well she's doing. Funny how she annoys them, but I guess it's pretty common

Going into heat can vary, they can go for long stretches without going into heat, or go long stretches being in heat. So probably it will be best to keep them totally separated once she reaches a certain age. I don't remember it being this great big annoyance, I just worry the biggest problem might be the boys and increased spraying. Sounds like you are pretty much already keeping them separate, so that's great!

The state of veterinary care there just breaks my heart
, and how people don't take care of and dump animals, it's so sad. People dump animals over her though also, one of my cats was a stray who needed a home.

I really don't understand how people let their females get pregnant. Close doors, close windows, separate-and spay when you are able to. It may be challenging at times, but it can be done. The only other thing I thought of is maybe there is an international organization where veterinarians come somewhere close to you at some point during the year or maybe if you could find a veterinarian who is like you and grew up in England or something like that.

She's got SO MUCH energy! She's started to chase the two boys around whenever I let her out of the room, Button doesn't seem to like it much and goes to hide under the fridge and Indie just HAS to defend himself so will yell at her until she stops lmaoooo.

Personally, I think she might go into heat pretty late. She's pretty small for being 3-4 months old and she was just sick, so could this cause her heat to come on later? Plus I don't think Indie and Button KNOW that she's a female! There's no excessive wailing or spraying or anything, or will this just start once her hormones kick in? I've never had a unspayed female so this is going to be really new for me, eventhough I've done a lot of research!! I will still supervise them none-the-less, to be on the safe side :-) She seems to prefer being by me and running under my feet anyway!

Same here :-( I understand that they may not be able to look after a litter of kittens but they should KNOW that if they have unspayed and unneutered males and females living in the same house that the inevitable will occur! Personally, if an accident like that occurred with my cats, I would do everything in my power to make sure that the kittens found good homes. I know so many people who I'm friends with who love cats and would take them in no matter the colour! And yes the same happens in England, though you hardly EVER see any stray dogs or cats or animals over there because so many people take them in :-) I, myself, took in a stray over there, her name was Lucky and I found her when she was a few months old. She's living with my Nan at the moment :-)

The stray problem over here is so disturbing :-( The amount of diseased animals you see on the streets really is sad. The only good thing is that the butchers tend to take in the animals they see and feed them the scraps that they save for them (the fat, meat people don't want, organs etc.) so at least some of them get food :-) The kittens that Mum saw being dumped were actually taken in by a butcher, she found that out this morning! So I suppose something worked out a little, though they shouldn't have been dumped in the first place.

And yes! When we brought the house we're in currently everything was open and there were many routes that the cats could escape from. They're toms so that was a bit finnicky for me because I know how they like to roam. We saved up lots of money and modified the house so now the entire place is covered so they can't escape yet still open so that the cats can see what's going on without feeling confined :-) It's great and it's worked a treat! As long as Indie can do his 'patrol' to make sure everything's alright in his territory, he doesn't spray or yowl. If somethings 'wrong' with his territory, though, and he will yell at either me and my Mum until we sort it out. This could be a stray tom that's come too close or some sparrows that he can't catch outside lmaooo.

And I actually found a place like that! It occurs in Islamabad though, which is about 4 hours away from where I am? Islamabad has a few VERY good vets that I've heard about, it's a lot more modern and civilised than the city I'm in at the moment which is one of the 'older' cities of Pakistan, I suppose you could say :-)

Oh! And also, regarding Sparrow, will the hair that she's scratched off around her ear come back? How long will it take to grow back? I'll try and post a picture of the bald patch today :-)

Another thing, her paw-pads seem to be a little rough? And have little white lines on them like she's got dry skin. Would it be alright if I put some coconut oil onto her pads to soften them a little? They don't seem to be bothering her and she doesn't chew on them or anything!

Females can get pregnant without going into heat, or can have silent heats. Don't use that as an indicator.

Coconut oil should be just fine to put on her little toe pads!
You are doing a great with little Sparrow and the two boys. I'm so happy to hear that she has a lot of kitten energy and is recovering nicely! I'm glad you got the antibiotic.
As far as the fur on her ear, I think you will start noticing regrowth over the next month, nothing to worry about if the skin looks healthy and she isn't scratching it a lot.

:hugs: to you and your little cat family :)

Okay I'll start doing that today! :-)

Thankyou! So am I, I'm so glad that I didn't give up hope and kept hoping for the best, she really is a little fighter!! It's day 6 of the antibiotic now, the ear is a lot better but there's still a little pus, hopefully it'll clean up by the time the course is over.

Alright, thankyou! And yes her skin is healthy, there's no lacerations or anything and there's no sign of ringworm or anything else :-)

And thankyou!! Right back at you!

Oooh alright I didn't know that. I'll make sure to keep an eye out all the time then, and only let her out under supervision. Thanks for letting me know!

Pictures of your cutie patootie!

I am so glad you decided to get an antibiotic-just remember to finish the entire 10 days of treatment-or did you decide on 14 days? Some people make the mistake of stopping once they feel better.

That's great to hear that a butcher took in those kittens! It is really neat how you modified your house, I'm sure they love it. I hope that place could be an option for you, it just shows again what amazing pet owners you and your Mum are that you would drive four hours to get them quality care.
Hope her little paws are feeling better too.

That is wonderful to hear how well she is doing!!

I seriously doubt that her being small or had been sick will change how she matures internally.

Plenty of kittens at 4 months old start heat, and also did you know that the presence of a male who is not neutered can throw her in to heat?

Yikes.....

i was emailing with a Pakistani friend of mine in London about your problem and she suggested you contact the University vet clinic in Lahore, which she says is very good. I looked them up and they seem to be well established, and even have a pet clinic. Obviously I dont know their reputation, but maybe they could help. Here is their address etc:

Address

Pet Centre, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences,

When I lived in Bosnia and was at my wits end to find a good vet, the university vet hospital was the one that finally saved my cats life. It might be worth a phone call, if you have not already tried them. It would be better than a 4 hour drive!

Yes, definitely keep them separated. Four months is not too young.

Good luck with the vet research!

Thankyou for all the info! I'll give the vet an email and see if he responds, fingers crossed! If the procedure for spaying/neutering isn't too expensive I'm sure that I'll be able to persuade Mum to take the cats to him :-)

W have a little bit of a poop problem :// She pooped yesterday night and it was a dark green colour, appeared to be almost black in the bad lighting. Other than that she's still active and running around and playing, despite it being REALLY hot. Also, the poop was firm with just a teeny tiny pit of runny-ness. She wasn't straining when it came out, either.
