Is it normal for mama cat (Brownie) to be meowing at us quite loudly and Then leaving her bed. I know it's okay for her to leave her babies, just Im not too sure about the meowing. When she meows at me or my brother we instantly respond & then she responds too, it's a bit like a conversation? What does this mean

I would guess that she just wants some attention as she's somewhat isolated in her nest right now.  Try to hang out with her and the kittens some more!

We sit next to her and the kitties pretty much all day when we're free and play on our phones or do our homework (quietly of course) [emoji]128514[/emoji] But I was thinking that too, we stroked her and she still seemed to meow. Do cats show off their kittens? Because when she first had them she was showing them off to us and today she moved away from her babies so they were in clear sight and started to meow [emoji]128156[/emoji]

Yep!  That is normal.  It's really sweet that she wants to share them with you.

talkingpeanut talkingpeanut I feel quite honoured because she waited for me to return home before she had her babies and she lets us hold them too. I feel lucky [emoji]128514[/emoji]
I realised that she kept meowing because she was infact discharging blood, don't worry though it was red which means no infection or anything and it's pretty normal even for humans.

I know this is a stupid question to ask but while she is discharging blood, is it painful for her?

How much blood is it? Some spotting is normal for a few days after giving birth, but it should not be too much. Your cat may have been having after pains, which humans also have for a day or two after giving birth. They are cramps that are not quite as bad as contractions.

Red blood can actually be concerning because if means she is actively bleeding. How much was it? Has it stopped?

Sarthur2 Sarthur2 talkingpeanut talkingpeanut it was like tiny flows, by tiny I mean less than a teaspoon & i think the meowing was because of after pains because she seemed to switch her positions while she was meowing, she has had her morning meal, had a small walk around the house and upstairs and now she's relaxing with her kitties. I'm guessing all is well Xxxx

All sounds well!  Some spotting is normal after birth.

Just making sure that you know she can get pregnant within a week of delivery.  It's very important that she doesn't go outside or near unfixed males until she can be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old.

I'll try to post pictures of the kitties every once in a while, their eyes are starting to open, but just ever so slightly - it's barely noticable. They are three days old x

Please do post photos!  It sounds like they're doing great.  It's a bit early for eyes to open, but as long as it happens naturally they should be fine.

Yep they're five days old tomorrow so I'm guessing it should be closer to their eyes opening by then & I will try my best x

Their remaining umbilical cords have all fallen off, except for the black&white kitties, the youngest of the litter, still waiting on their eyes to open though x

They will open soon. Most are open by 10 days, definitely by 14. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I'm really scared because mama cat seems to be biting the youngest babies neck and kicking with her back legs and won't seem to let go even if the baby squeals a couple times. Eventually she does let go but I don't understand why she's doing this as they're not even a week old yet

Btw the black and white kitten is the one that meows the most aswell, however she's not the runt of the litter. All of the kittens are roughly the same, except for the male (tabby) he seems to be the most plump out of the litter

I don't know why your cat is doing that, but something is bothering her. I hope you are stopping her when she does that. It's not normal.

If they are crying, that ususlly means they are hungry. Is mama kitty feeding often? Are you weighing the kittens to determine if each is gaining weight properly every day? If not, they are hungry and need supplementing.
