I just witnessed something very new to me as far as kittens go- Amber was licking Sophia's behind. I don't know if she was trying to suckle or lick, either way it was very disturbing...motherly tendencies or worms or ???

Motherly tendencies!

You'll see them lick one another's faces and ears and other body parts. It's what cats do.

You will need to get them checked for worms eventually though :).

The mama cats lick their behinds the first few weeks to stimulate them for potty and to clean them :).

Sophia and Amber are doing good today. I did notice that Amber has diarrhea so I'll be getting some pedialyte today. I came to check on them and one had pooped in the box and they were ticked off. Of course, I took them out and am currently cleaning the linens. Right now they are sleeping on a blanket that I put the heating pad under. There has only been one potty accident on the floor and they have both used the litter box - is it feasible to leave them out during the day and just put them in the box at night when I am sleeping? That way I can leave some dry food and water out for them to start exploring?

I fed them some mush when I got them out to bathe them and clean stuff, after they ate that they didn't want a bottle. I'm thinking maybe they were just really angry that there was poop in their space and weren't very hungry, but wanted to get a second opinion on that. It appears that they have both gained a little weight - which I am thrilled about!

Can you make a little nest where they can sleep but can also get in and out of on their own?

This way they can explore, access the food, water, and litter, and go in and out at will.

I'm guessing the diarrhea was from switching from liquid to powder. It happens.

It's great they are gaining weight :).

One more question for the day. We have a 14 year old female cat that was previously inside but is now an outside cat. I was wondering if I introduced her to the babies, if she accepted them, that not only could she help them with cleaning and whatnot but maybe she would start using the litter box again instead of our house and she could come back inside.

All you can do is give it a shot. How long has she lived outside?

I like the idea though :).

4 years. She ALWAYS stays in our yard and was an inside cat for 10 years. She went outside some during the day but when we moved she and our male cat got mad and started peeing on everything. The male cat was fixed and disappeared when some neighbors moved. I could never get her to use the litter box again.

Well, this will be interesting. Maybe she will ask to go out when she needs to use the bathroom.

We have been taking care of a pair of kittens that we found since they were 1 day old.  They are now 20 days old.  Probably about the same age as the one's you have.  Ours seem to be doing very well.

We had a few scares at first but these girls are now eating soooo much, we have to buy the powder becuase we could never keep up with the ready to feed. We are now mixing a food with the formula that the vet gave us to start around 2 1/2 weeks.  We are still feeding by syringe, bottles didnt work too well with these girls, and it has to be the small syringes because the big ones made them both take too much formula in at one time and both had to go to vet and are on antiboditics right now.  They are eating at least 12-15ml per feeding right now. One weighs about 9ozs, the other 8oz. They were about 2 1/2 ozs when we found them.

And as far as the husband goes, my husband hates cats, but he realizes that me and my daughters (both 20), have been feeding these babies around the clock every three to four hours for19 days!!! There is no way we are ever getting rid of them.  Of course he also knows that the girls and I are the best push-overs for animals.  We have fostered dogs, cats, squirrels, a baby sparrow ( that lived with us for 4 years), you name it we've had it.  We always seem to get these babies that are lost or abonanded.  Hang in there!! Maybe he'll come around

I am so excited to say that my precious girls are exclusively using a litter box, even overnight without me checking. I made them a nest yesterday, and had nightmares last night that I woke up and there was poop everywhere. Not a drop or pee or poop anywhere except the litter box! Amber no longer has diarrhea, although she hasn't really mastered pooping without getting it all over...but she's using the litter box - which is more than I expected considering I was still having to stimulate them 2 days ago :)

They both weighed 12 oz this morning, which is awesome! I have been giving them wet food w/ milk (they eat like piggies) and then the bottle. They usually drink a little, stop and I get sister, back and forth at least twice then they are so full they look drunk lol. Sophia is very playful and loving (she's asleep on my shoulder now), Amber is more of a loaner and diva. She went to bed after she ate and pooped. I tried to play with her, she was having none of it.

I haven't brought Katy inside yet. I'm hoping to do that today.

So I'm noticing that Amber is having a hard time walking without her rear end flopping over to one side or the other.

I think it was because she was full...she played for a good while with my daughter and didn't seem to have any problems.

Question about dry food. I'm still giving them pate with a little milk - which they love - but I want to start trying them on dry food. I tried wetting a little yesterday with KMR but it never got soft. Should I use water since I'm still giving them KMR via bottle?
