Is it OK to move the mama cat while she is in labor before any kittens are born? Or should you wait until all are born? I have also been thinking of taking her temp daily now as I think she is within 2 weeks now. Is that safe to do and is it true that once it drops below 100 degrees she will give birth within 24 hours?
No, it's better to wait till all the kittens are born.

Good luck to you and your mama cat!

Yes, you can move the cat before babies are born, but if she is laboring hard you will want to leave her be.

Temperature is not the most reliable indicator of delivery date, so taking her temperature daily is not necessary.

You will know when she is in labor because she will be breathing heavily, experiencing contractions, and very preoccupied. She will likely drop, begin nesting, and have discharge in the day or two leading up to delivery.

Do you plan to have her spayed after this litter weans?

Yes I am definitely having her spayed. I had wanted to have it done already but then I figured out she was pregnant so I couldn't. When I found her it didn't even cross my mind she could be pregnant. I have no idea when she could even be due, this is all new to me. She is such a sweet cat I am hoping after she gives birth her personality doesn't change.

I just realized you said you found the cat on June 21st, and learned about a month later she was pregnant. She's probably in her seventh week, and has about two weeks left, so your estimation is on target. She would have conceived just before you found her.

Have you set up nesting areas for her, and is she showing any interest in them?

She sure is young at 8 months to be having kittens. She's very lucky you found her. If she's a sweet cat she will stay sweet even after she is no longer pregnant.

Can you post a picture of her for us?

That's normal.  The mother wants the nest to be clean and in the outdoors she doesn't want to attract predators by going in  too soon.  She usually enters the nest when she needs it.

Thank you. She is very sweet. I call her my welcoming committee. Whenever anyone comes in the door she comes and greets you.

Oh gosh. Please don't read polkas thread right now. That's my girl and rest assured that her story is not the usual outcome. She is an old cat and shouldn't have been having babies. We think she was also extremely overdue. As far as seeing kitten movement, it comes towards the end of pregnancy and sometimes doesn't come at all. We have a cat now with an expected due date of 2 weeks from now. She's carrying 3 kittens and we don't see movement.

Can cats have empty sacs come out? What does that mean?

Yes they can. It usually means a fertilized egg failed to develop into a healthy kitten, so you're left with an empty sac.

OK it seems my cat might be in labor how would you know if there is a baby in the birth canal? I am not home right now my daughter is there. She said awhile ago that it looked like a sac was coming out but every time she checks there is nothing there.

Is the cat actively pushing? There may be a breech kitten. She may need to go to the vet.

Are you heading home?

I can't go home I'm at work they have no one to cover me. She is walking around she's not just laying there. Every time my daughter checks on her she gets up and meows. I left 3 hours ago and she was not in labor, no signs of it at all.
