So the shelter I rescued my cat told me to feed him purine pne urinary tract health for a healthy cat. He started having diarrhea. Took him to a real vet the checked his stool and said he was fine. He was wondering why we fed him with purine one urinary. We didn't thibk it could have been the food. He started his chiken and rice diet and there was no more diarrhea. We started feeding him his regular food and the diarrhea came back so we think its the purine brand. My question is what's the best brand I should use to feed him. Price is not a problem. Thanks

Purina doesn't have the best ingredients. Your cat's tummy may be sensitive to one or more of the ingredients. Here are some things to read:

Most people here recommend feeding an all canned food diet instead of dry food. The last link above goes into more detail about why and proper cat nutrition.

If dry food has to be fed, at least try to limit it to no more than 50% of the diet (the other half of the diet being canned) and make sure it's a grain-free brand. Some brands to try are Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Nature's Variety Instinct. There are limited ingredient diets if you think your cat has a food allergy. Nature's Variety has a limited ingredient line as does Natural Balance.

Brand doesn't matter as long as your cat will eat it and it doesn't cause any issue like diarrhea

You can feed adult food
Adults foods are complete for all life stages anyways.

Here are some threads that discuss what brands of canned foods to feed:

And this for general recommendations on what to look for in canned food: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/what-makes-the-best-canned-cat-food

The general rule of thumb for any food is to feed the one that your cat likes
Some cats are happy eating Fancy Feast and Friskies. These and other similar big name  brands are widely available in many types of stores (supermarket, chain pet store, big box store, etc) and are pretty inexpensive. Other cats have more expensive tastes and will only eat the high end premium brands that cost well over $1 a can and may only be available at independent pet stores.

Wellness is a good brand and has a kitten formula available.

I feed my cats raw food but I do keep Nature's Variety Instinct on hand just in case. I also keep some of the Weruva line of foods except BFF (seafood based).

I saw your post and I've seen the foods have been discussed, so about the litter box, I use a large, 35 gallon, Storage Tote Bin with a hole cut in one side as a litter box, it is large, roomy, and not much chance of overshooting the box.

Okay, clumping is good, I find that unscented seems to appeal to cats much more than scented but it varies by cat.

This has info on types of litter boxes and litters and common litter box issues: http://catinfo.org/?link=litterbox Hooded litter boxes are generally not recommended because they trap odors inside which cats don't like and aggressive cats can corner a subordinate cat in the box which can cause litte rbox avoidence and other issues. That said, I've only used hooded litter boxes and have never experienced any negative issue.

A regular open litter box works for most cats. If you need to hide the box, there are furniture things you can buy or DIY to put the litter box out of view.

Greenies are ok but most people find that they don't do a thing for dental health. Dry food doesn't help with dental care either. Regular toothbrushing will help keep the teeth clean. There are many threads on toothbrushing here on TCS if you want to look into that.

I think most people feed freeze dried meat treats or other similar healthy treats. Halo Liv A Littles, Whole Life, and PureBites are popular brands that you can find at most pet stores. There's nothing wrong wtih a less healthy treat like Pounce as long as it's only fed as a treat. Pounce is kind of like a sugar laden frosted cookie while freeze dried meat treats are more like fresh fruit.
