"Wish You Were Here" is the first of the series. It introduces the main characters and establishes the dynamics of their relationships. I believe there are now twelve books, in the series.

They have Jane Austen as the protagonist and are 'said to be based on a series of recently discovered letters written by Jane detailing some of the more exciting events of her life that didn't make it to her novels' (hehehhehe). They are very well done and most enjoyable. I haven't read "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman" yet although I have read a few of the sequels by others including 'Eliza" which disappointed me greatly.

I love both Jane Austen and Stephanie Barron, too! I've read several of the Jane Austen mysteries, and really loved them. Haven't heard of the other books mentioned.

I just finished Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code, both brilliant. I feel like the last person on earth to read DaVinci.

Currently reading Superfoods RX and Sorcery and Cecilia, juvenile fiction involving magic and 2 girls in 19th century England.

I just finished reading "How the Right Went Wrong" by Patrick Buchanan and "Skinny Dip" by Carl Hiaasen. I hadn't planned to read either but there they were in the new books display at the library and I just plucked them out.

Can we discuss online book clubs on The Cat Site? I've been in several Barnes & Nobel book club discussions and really enjoyed them. I read Jane Austen's "Persuasion" and "Emma" -- also The Odyssey, and Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. I had never read Austen and found it very difficult at first, but now I can see why she's so popular. I didn't like Age -- I just didn't seem to "get" the characters at all. The Odyssey was the biggest surprise because the people in the group was sooooo smart. I ended up loving it. I missed signing up for this month, but next month I'm reading Huckleberry Finn.

Also read Scarlett by Walter Mosley, one of my favorite authors and The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri both moderated by the authors, in the B&N book clubs.

For the person reading Pearl Buck -- that was an Oprah bookclub selection and there's a lot of info about the book on her web site.

Oh, and I've read most of the Kinky Friedman books -- he's so funny -- I especially love his relationship with his cat.

"Skinny Dip" is excellent - I read it a few weeks ago. I was not happy with the latest Kinky Friedman (see earlier post in this thread) and I've read ALL of them.

Cindy - have you read any of the other Carl Haasen books? I understand they all take place in south Florida, my homestate.

I agree Kinky's lost it to some degree. Maybe after his cat died.

Did you read The Cat Who Went to Paris and The Cat Who'll Never Die?
I loved those books. Sorry I can't remember the author's name.

THE SUMMERHOUSE by Jude Deveraux, and it is WAY cool! These three ladies have a chance to go back in the past and live 3 weeks, thus changing their lives--or not.

GO CHECK IT OUT!

I've read most of Carl Hiaasen's fiction. If you can find a copy of "Naked Came the Manatee" - read it. It is a round-robin book. Hiaasen wrote the first chapter and then sent it on to another author, who wrote the next chapter and so on. Dave Barry, Steven King and Amy Tan all contributed. Hiaasen then wrote the final chapter.

Speaking of South Florida writers - I also like most of Elmore Leonard's books. "Maximum Bob" is my favorite. A few years ago, this was made into a summer replacement TV series, starring Beau Bridges. It was a hoot.

Just finished Ann Rule's latest, "Green River, Running Red", about the Green River Killer. After reading this one and King County Sheriff Dave Reichert's book, I can understand why it took so long to catch him.

I'm still reading John Iriving's novel A Widow for One Year. Ever since starting my new job I've had little time to read for pleasure.

I want to read that really bad, I have a thing for serial killer true crime books. But I can't bring myself to pay for the hard back so I'm waiting for it to come to paperback. And yes I know there's such thing as a library but I have a habit of rereading books and taking a long time to finish them as I start one then another then another and just kind of revolve between them.

Currently reading:

Jump The Shark - When Good Things Go Bad by Jon Hein.

It pretty much takes you through and points out all instances when TV shows, Music Groups, Celebrities, Sports Figures, Politicians went bad or as I like to call it became cheesy. Pretty funny this far.
