I'm so relieved that he will be at the vet's and not in some creepy concrete facility. Although, it's still stinky that he can't just stay with you.

You must be really tired.

You might want to start a thread about the best way to introduce Persi to his new home. There are some techniques that might really help.

Does Persi have treats he loves that you could take when you visit him.

Maybe a shirt with your scent on it would help him settle in for his stay.
It won't be long before Persi is out of jail.

You might want to check into those spirit essences Dr Jean talks about. You could use them while he's in quarantine as well as when you get to the new home. Allie could probably benefit as well.

Yeah, the whole situation stinks. However, the law is there, and I guarantee if you were bitten out in public, you'd be grateful for that quarantine law. It's just a shame that housepets that who were biting out of fear have to take the fall.

The whole "mess" teaches many lessons about our cats. First, they are animals, and if "push comes to shove" they will react purely on instinct. Second, Lee thought holding Persi would be a good idea while the maid was there, but he turned out to be wrong. It could have been even worse if Persi had run out the open door of the hotel room. Third, cat bites ARE serious and antibiotics are in order, especially if the bite is deep. Fourth, lying about the biter would be counterproductive, as then they would have pushed rabies shots on Lee, and that would have brought up all kinds of other issues.

I hope the 10 days fly by. I really think he will be fine and his coat won't be ruined. A nice shampoo and conditioning and a relaxing brushing will soon put things right.

Try and rest and I hope your wounds are healing well.

to both! i was so relieved to read that he would be at his vet's, where they know him, & have a somewhat vested interest in keeping him happy [so you will continue to patronize them, of course!].
& for you, your DW & Alley - you're all going to need them!

I wonder if they'll let you put in something (a blanket/toy) sprayed with Feliway in the cage with him? That may help him cope.

Oh NO!!!!!!!!!! Oh I am so sorry, Lee.
Oh that just totally stupid! I cannot believe them!
What are they afraid of???? Sheesh if they want to make sure he is fine then don't take him away from his beloved owner!! Oh I feel for you so much!!!!!!!

We know Lee and family from his posts on here, so we are biased in his favor.
But the people in Dallas don't have that advantage. All they know is some guy (sorry Lee, but you know what I mean) living in a hotel (they see it as no stable home, you could leave at anytime) has a serious bite. The opportunity for Persi escaping is high (doors opening and closing) as is the opportunity for more bites (strange people around) - because Lee lived in Collin County and is now in Dallas County, they can't even be sure that Persi doesn't have a history of biting (th counties don't communicate that well).
If this was a stranger's cat, we might see it as more reasonable..... but it's Persi!

Lee, I believe that cats (and dogs) read our emotions and that is has a major effect on how they respond to situations. My crew of 3 dogs and 2 cats travel with us - my dogs love-love-love elevators, especially the glass ones that they put nose prints on. My daughter's kitten Harper has been shuffled around a bit lately due to water issues in her apt. She has stayed at three different places in the space of a week - and did well. Instead of worrying about the move as traumatic, look at the new play places they will get to discover and claim as their own. I'm hoping to put this into practice again next year, though we've been in three states and 7 homes so far in our marriage.

Sorry I did not say anything about what happened, Lee. It surprised me how strict and ridiculous the authorities are. Well, I am glad it got sorted out but I feel sorry for Persi. Sending that days pass quickly for both of you so you can be together asap.

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this.
I remember when Billy bit me two summers ago - I went through almost the exact same thing. They wouldn't let me quarentine him at my apartment, but I had just purchased a townhome that I was in the process of painting, and they would let me keep him quarentined there. I slept on the floor (with a very sore arm from my tetanus booster) just so I could be with him, but I was just torn up about the thought of them taking him away too.

When do you move into your new home? If its before the quarentine is up, maybe they'll let you take him home and finish the quarentine off there. I certainly hope the days just fly by for you and Persi, and that everything is better soon.

If he's had his rabies shot, why are they needing to quarantine him? I don't understand that!

I hope the 10 days goes by really quickly. Him being a long hair you might have to give him a summer lion cut to get rid of the mats though

An idea for future referance. You did the right thing by going and getting your bites and scratches looked at. Expecially given that one of them was to the bone! However if you ever need to get medical attention again because of your cats, I'd suggest lying and telling them that you were trying to trap a stray, and give then an area of town far from where you live. Granted you will have to have rabies shots, but .... at least you would still have your kitty with you

Unless I missed it, I don't think that's been answered. Perhaps he's not vaccinated and that's why he does need to be quarantined

I'm sorry to hear about yours and Persi's ordeal. If this is out of character, he obviously just panicked. As I'm sure you know, cats aren't comfortable feeling restrained, his instincts took over, he decided that he was in danger (especially as the half nelson probably would have hurt him) and he did what he thought he had to do to survive.

I would agree that its best if you put your cats into their carriers before the maid arrives in future, if not, maybe shut them in a separate room. I imagine it will take some time for him to trust you again after you put him in a half nelson, you should never do that. If it is ever that necessary to restrain him, maybe wrap him in a blanket (with room to breathe) but obviously a carrier is the best option. Still, we live and learn.

Also, is there absolutely no way Persi could carry rabies? It has an incubation period upto a year. If there is any doubt at all you should go to the hospital for post-exposure prophylaxis.

Good luck with the Dangerous animal people, I'm afraid I can't help you there. to you and Persi.

Sending you vibes that those 10 days fly by quickly and that Persi is more relaxed now. Also that you get an answer as to why Persi needed to be quarantined when he's had his rabies shots...

Poorp Persi... and poor Lee, Sheri & Alley! Hope the next ten days go quickley. As for the new house, I would take things slowely. First you will have to re-introduce Persi & Alley... 10 days is a long time in a cat's eyes. Heck, Frankie (my alpha) was at the vet for a few hours and Wickett hissed at her when she came home... and he never hisses. So, I'd almost take things from scratch... let him get comfy with you guys and Alley again first before letting him know the whole house.

Oh no!
What a waste of time and effort when there are suffering and dangerous animals out there!

At least he can go to the vet's and you'll be able to visit. Ask if you can bring him a blanket/shirt of yours so he can have something familiar smelling.

that your 10 days go quickly! We are already on day 9 right?

Unknown to me yesterday until I finally opened the envelope that was under my door is that these people were out here to this hotel the very day the bite happened. That is how fast they responded to the ER reporting the matter. I had of course ignored phone calls but they caught up with me yesterday.

1. If your cat has proof of up to date papers, you will not be fined, but your cat still must be quarantined based on the report from the ER. If, in the ER's opinion, this is a vicious attack, the cat must be quarantined despite evidence of current shots. And that is what ticked me off so bad, is the use of that word vicious while I was being tended to.

2. I could have quarantined Persi in my own home BUT because I was staying in a hotel and could not guarantee he would not leave this room, I had to either let them take him or take him to my vet. And believe me, they were checking on the phone minutes after I delivered him with the vet.

3. So, I am wearing the same T-Shirt I did yesterday and did not shower this morning so I could get it good and stinky with my scent and taking it over to him later today. That's the best I could have got under my unique circumstances.

Thank you everybody for your show of concern and your wonderful advice which I will be consulting daily over the next nine days.
