I mean was there any way to figure it out before? Someone at work said it was in a book before but I don't think it was...

As far as I knew I don't think we ever saw Snape's Patronis. If we did, I believe it was before Lilly died so it had it's prior form.

I don't think it was, either. If James's Patronus was a stag, though, it would be logical for Lily's to have been a doe.

If it was told anywhere, it probably would have been when Remus was teaching Harry how to make one. He might have told Harry what James and Lily's were. Only place I can think of that it might have been mentioned.... hmmmmm.....

I've been asking around, and my sister, who's really into HP, says that it's her opinion that we were never told about the doe Patronus. That makes me feel better that we didn't figure it out. PLUS, I just read all 6 prior books since June - I thought I would have caught that!

I totally agree.. We were never advised on what type of patronus Lilly had nor what Snape had.

I'm wondering if Snape's Patronus was always a doe? It seemed weird that they mentioned in the book that Tonks patronus was different because of all that was going on with her and Remus.

Maybe Snape's patronus was different but when Lily died his patronus took on a different form.

I have to go back and read more closely to see if they give a hint about Lily's patronus.

I just finished the book last night and *well* I was really hoping for one of the 3 main characters to REALLY die. For a while there too after Ron left I was hoping that Harry and Hermione might have a little snog

B and I both really like the way she wrapped up Snape. You never knew the truth about him until the Pensieve. I also really liked the way she gave us a clue on Lily and Petunia before Lily left for Hogwarts.

I'm really hoping that if Rowling does continue to write that she kind of does like Tolkien did and write some of the books that she mentioned in her books. I would love to read The Bard of Beedle as well as The History of Hogwarts.

I think his was always a doe, because he always loved Lily. I could be wrong though

Agreed. I have read each book more than once and I have never heard of Lily's or Snape's patronus being mentioned.

Wishing I were anywhere but here
I just finished reading the book last night. All in all, I liked it. A lot of what happened I predicted or had a feeling it would. I was really upset about Hedwig dying, but could understand why.
Aberforth completely surprised me that he was the owner of the Hog's Head. I had hated Snape for a long time, never knowing whose side he was really on, but don't believe he deserved to die the way he did. I am glad she tied that all up nicely and showed us Snape for who he really was.
The big battle was very complex and just full of nerves. Just wondering who would live and who would die. I kind of figured Lupin would die...she had finally killed off the last true friend and connection of his father.
I was so proud of Neville! I had grown to like him very much and am glad to see that he was able to stand up for what he believed in and fight like a true hero. I was also saddened by Fred's death, and had not expected it to be one of the twins. I'm also glad to see that Percy got some sense back and did finally come back to fight.
I knew when I read that Harry died, that he really hadn't. I just had that feeling. I was also glad to find that Dumbledore really was human and good and not as he once may have been.
I was glad for the epilogue, but it left so many questions unanswered. I wanted to know what had happened to the other teachers and the weasleys. Whatever happened to the dudleys? What are Ron and Harry doing for a living? How is George coping without Fred? There are so many. She has talked about possible continuations for characters and I hope she does.

have read the book, and thought that it was well written. Even though I knew who died, was interesting to see how the deaths came about. Now to stop myself from playing the spoiler role.

At another website I go to, someone posted about JK Rowlings being interviewed on the Today show. She said she was planning on eventually writting some sort of book or encylopedia that would go into the what all happend to everyone.

The poster did say she did drop a few little hints though:

She did have some juicy new tidbits for us though:
1) Harry and Ron revolutionized the Auror's office.
2) Hermoine is now at a "high level position" in the Ministry's magical law enforcement wing.
3) The new headmaster is not McGonagall because she is too old. It's somebody "new".
4) Victore is definitely Fleur and Bill's kid.
5) Neville's parents are still in St. Mungo's.
6) Lupin and Tonks were killed off in exchange for Mr. Weasley's life.
She also said that she tried to include most of this in the epilogue, but started sounding bad and like she was cramming too much infomation into it. So she left most of it out and decided to eventually publish it separtely, but has no plans on starting it right away.

That's too bad, because while we did get a few tidbits about their future, still I had questions. I wish she would have written it less chaotic as to me it was just a blur of words.

Started yesterday and finished yesterday
I loved it
it was excellent, excellent, excellent!!!! I'm also very sad it's done though, I really enjoy JK's writing. Everything was wrapped up very nicely and I admit to feeling badly about doubting Snape, what a tough job Dumbledore had entrusted him with

Well, I finished Saturday. I still haven't read all of this thread though (up to page 5 I think) but I couldn't wait any longer to post! LOL

The ONLY death that made me cry was Doby. I don't know why but that one affected me the most. I was also a little dissapointed by the final 2 sentances of the epilogue... espically the last line (3 words). It just seemed overly simple for EVERYTHING that just happened.

*******SPOILER******

I mean really? "all was well"... that's it?! Bah!
