I know you are supposed to do very gradual switches with dry food but I am worried. I would rather their tummies be upset for a couple days due to a sudden switch than continue to feed them even small amounts of a recalled product.
If it were me, my cats would not get another bite of that food. This is just so horrible, on top of having to worry what food is safe, we have to worry about switching foods suddenly every couple of weeks.

PLEASE THROW AWAY ALL NBALANCE PEA & VENISON DRY CAT FOOD IMMEDIATELY (YUP, I'M SHOUTING)!!! DON'T THINK TWICE, JUST THROW IT AWAY.
I wouldn't throw it all away!! Put a few cups of what you have left in a ziploc bag and stick it in the freezer. When they figure out what the problem is, it may be helpful to have some available for testing. I know that lots of people who feel their cats were sickened by Menu foods didn't keep the cans or food and therefore can't prove that the food caused the problem.

I'm having a hard time with this too. Odo's been eating NB Vension and Green Pea canned for almost the entire time he's lived with me (11 months). I know intellectually it's just a coincidence, but he threw up last night when I gave him the second half of his can which made me nervous. (It's just a coincidence because he did the same thing the night before with a different food). I'll be setting aside the remaining cans of NB Venison and Green Pea until further information becomes available, just as I did with the Nutro that currently isn't part of the recall.

Newest info posted on NB website:

NOTICE:
We are receiving consumer complaints regarding the Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Foods. We do not know what is wrong with the food at this time, but we have heard that animals are vomiting and experiencing kidney problems. Although the problems seem to be focused on one particular lot, as a precautionary measure, we are pulling all dates of Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food from the shelves.

Please discontinue feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food.

We are working closely with the FDA.
We will update this website today, as more information comes available.

NO OTHER NATURAL BALANCE PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED.

I'm following my vet's advice and continuing to feed the Ultra Premium. But, I'll be closely watching the NB website for updates.

*smart*

I nodded at your post regarding the vomiting episode. I have 2 'happy pukers'. They are just nervous and often suffer from early morning bilious bellies. So it's hard to ascertain whether or not, with them, it's "oh, Grayboy puked again" or "OMG WHY IS HE PUKING?"

With Grayboy and Caesar, a change in gas prices could make them puke

I too ocasionally feed the venison & green pea wet food. I'm going to be setting those cans aside & buying a few Evangers (they seem to really like that too), until I know that the wet food is safe. My question for those who have had to return food is that I don't keep reciepts (I know I'm terrible), if the wet food becomes a problem will I still be able to return the cans?

Not sure about Petco, but I think they should be pretty easygoing about returns without receipts. Petsmart took the stuff back that I could return there, with no problem. I exchanged some and got a gift card for the balance.

i talked to my hubby (the voice of reason with my off and on panicking since the first recalls) and he agrees that is a good course of action. our cats finally aren't puking all the time on the NB Ultra dry. plus we don't have a lot of choices for foods in our area.
we've tried just about everything else. they even barfed fairly often on blue buffalo.

so we are going to continue as usual, and watch the website closely. it really sounds like it's something with the venison since it's only venison flavors recalled.

We switched all of our kitties to Solid Gold dry last night and they loved it! No tummy problems so far!
A 15 lb bag at one of our local stores was $30 so I'll have to see if I can find it a little cheaper online. And the cans of Felidae and Innova that I ordered should be here tonight!

That is really surprising (and disappointing I'm sure
) ...my cats went nuts for the samples of SG we tried. I thought it would be a sure hit.

It may pay to call around a little. The SG website only showed 2 local stores that carry SG, but I ended up finding at a number of other places. I didn't price the big bag, but $30 does seem a little high...based on the small bag prices I found.

I'm glad they loved it!

Petfooddirect has the 15 lb bag of SG for $25, and the coupons I get emailed usually come close to canceling out the shipping charge, so that is a little better.

Where whiskers abound.
My cats get the Innova Dry Cat food and tuna, real tuna. I never really trusted ANY can cat/dog food, it always looked like vomit.

Just my two cents.

PS. My cats NEVER have any health problems, one is 9 going on 10 and the other is about 2-3.

I checked the NBalance website before feeding Sadie this morning, and was happy to see no change - that still no other NB products are affected:

"Although the problems seem to be focused on one particular lot, as a precautionary measure, we are pulling all dates of Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food from the shelves.

Please discontinue feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food.

We will update this website today, as more information comes available.

I also checked this morning. I hope they find out what the problem is soon.

The lady who runs one the pet food shops i go too made an interesting statement on this venison DVP problem, that many pets on these allergy foods already have health issues and can also be on medications that can also cause other issues?

I honestly have no idea, i was using the venison because the cats liked the taste, i had no real requirement for allergy foods.
