Urgent :: Pet Food Recall... Urgent!!! - TOXIN FOUND - Page 16post #451 of 7523/20/07 at 2:41pmThe affected foods are not just made at the Canadian plant. They are also made at the New Jersey plant. Please keep this in mind!post #452 of 7523/20/07 at 2:42pmI received this message through my feline asthma group. I didn't see this information anywhere else here...please forgive me if someone has already posted it.
http://www.petconnection.com for up to date information or if you have a pet who became ill from eating recalled foods.
I'm a contributing editor at Universal Press Syndicate's Pet Connection, and we have created a central information area about the pet food recall.
While we're still investigating this, it's apparent to all of us that many more pets have died and been made ill than are currently being reported - particularly cats. We have set up a database to receive reports from owners of affected pets, and are also interested in talking to vets who have treated them. We'll have more information on Monday.

We'll see how long before I get an explaination and I'll share the info.
Additionally, the North Dakota plant of Menu Foods has its own suppliers and is not part of the recall so there is also no risk of cross contamination.
(I called twice and got the same answer so I assume this is somewhat more accurate than the information we had earlier)post #457 of 7523/20/07 at 3:16pmpost #458 of 7523/20/07 at 3:18pmQuote:It may help to have some knowledge of where- state- illnesses and deaths are occurring. Maybe people should post that information. Obviously, we can't assume all is okay or all is not okay if there are or aren't problems reported directly in our area, but still it might be helpful.

I was amazed, but after that, I went ahead and called everyone I know who has pets, just in case. And, yep, I found more folks who weren't aware of the recall.
Scary, very scary.post #464 of 7523/20/07 at 6:59pmMy boss feeds a prescription diet but sent an email to let us all know just in case (one of the girls used to feed Iams but doesn't anymore), but everyone already knew at work, so I guess the news travels faster in some places than otherspost #465 of 7523/20/07 at 8:47pmOn our local newscast today, they talked to a vet who was treating a cat who had eaten some of the bad food, and he said that they were super-hydrating her, using extra water to force her kidneys to push the toxins out of her system.
They were probably doing it subcutaneously or intravenously, I imagine. But maybe now would be a good time to put out extra water dishes, to help encourage our kitties to drink more -- just in case they are exposed to anything hazardous...post #466 of 7523/20/07 at 8:51pmpost #467 of 7523/20/07 at 8:59pmI know this has been posted somewhere, but what are some stuff I should look for? Luna hasn't eaten any recalled food that I know of, but since I'll be taking her tomorrow, I might as well ask about anything suspicious.post #468 of 7523/20/07 at 9:01pmpost #469 of 7523/20/07 at 9:50pmTrader Joe's pulled their food. I posted the notice that was sent to my store this afternoon here
Please read and take any food you have from them back. The kibble is still safe.post #470 of 7523/20/07 at 9:59pmo my 2 more were added to the recall on their site, please check it out, I dont have a link but its somewhere in this thread (thats how I keep getting to it) and well they said on the news tonite that a ladys 5 cats had died because of this I hope they figure out what is causign this and R.I.P all the poor kitties that were lost because of this ALso keep informing people like I said my mom informed someone the other day at the store while the recalled food was still out, and i informed our neighbor that has 12 cats and 2 ferals outside she takes care of!!!
I told my mom we had only had special kittie once and it was for a week and I told my mom stormie kept gettin sick and she kept sayin that it was a hairball well that shows u to just trust ur instict and ur guts on things, (when she started to get sick I took her off of it right away and we went to whiskas purrfectly fish, what cna i say they are too picky, its that meow mix, fancy feast, and friskies that they like only) but she is fine now thank goodness! It just goes to show u to trust ur instinct when things are wrong and ur kittie is sick or what not I did adn I came out lucky!
Just be sure to keep checking the recallled list since they are still adding and removing all the time since they really arent sure themselves u know !!!post #471 of 7523/20/07 at 10:31pmhttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n2590696.shtml
a woman is suing Menu Foods and is seeking class action status for her suit. i would suggest that any one who has a pet affected by this recall to join ...post #472 of 7523/21/07 at 12:17amAll this is making very nevous. Although I am still feeding sammi whiskas wet food and so far it is not on the list but if anyone knows otherwise please let me know. My mom feeds her seven cats Iams dry food, which from what I gather is alright and she feeds the dog hill science diet which is also dry. I hope these are ok. If anoyone knows if they are not please let me know but I'll see if I can found out anything. Don't want to lose any cats or our dog. I don't remember reading or seeing anything about this here in south africa, not yet that is.
My thoughts go out to all those who have lost pets because of this. I am sure they will be making lots of friends over the RB.
I hope this will sort its self out and that this will be last time. I hope pet food manufactuers will catch a wake up call now and not let it happen in the future.post #473 of 7523/21/07 at 1:55ampost #474 of 7523/21/07 at 5:28amHi,
I just went to the masterfoods website (manufacturer of Whiskas and Sheba). According to their statement these products are safe:
The recent US pet food recall initiated by Menu Foods and other companies does not include any Mars Petcare pet food products. All of our brands, including PEDIGREE and CESAR food for dogs, and WHISKAS and SHEBA food for cats, are safe for pets to enjoy.
The safety and nutritional quality of our pet food is our top priority because for many people, their pets are their top priorities.post #475 of 7523/21/07 at 6:39amSince we don't have much info on it, I will just link to the news report and let people make up their own mind, this is NOT linked to the menu food recall, but those feeding ANY Royal Canin foods may want to look into it and decide for themselves
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/20032007/...d-company.htmlpost #476 of 7523/21/07 at 7:25amThe Royal canin lawsuit mentioned above is for a very different issue , but it has upset me very much. November 2005 RC starts to receive reports of dogs eating one of their veterinary diets getting sick. In february 2006 (fast huh) they issue a statement a mixing error has been made with 4 of their diets (including a diet for cats), they mixed in too much vitamin D. They recalled the food, no big public recall like the one we are seeing now, but a hushed and as a result very inefficient one. I found out about this recall because february 15 2006 a breeder posted on the Yahoo fanciershealth list about two cats she bred that got sick due to this production error. The food had been recalled for two weeks and nobody on this well informed list with vets and breeders knew about it yet. March 25 2006 I was on another messageboard and I found a woman who had been feeding this food long after it had been recalled (Am I allowed to post links to other messageboards here ?) , her kitty just came out of the hospital after almost dying. I am really ticked with RC for not being more open about this, how many more kitties have gotten sick because they didn't inform the public more ?
The recall notice from 2006 is below:

Side note - when we got Scully, it was his first vet vist past his neuter/declaw and he was almost 9 at the time too!post #480 of 7523/21/07 at 8:36amAs much as i don't really agree with suing people, in this case i would be getting the best lawyer i could find where my babies health is concerned.
The cat's first vet visit though?
