Good luck at the vet's!
In June one of Scratch's claws fell out--the whole thing. We had to wait a few days before we could bring her in but she was fine. It grew back quite quickly, and hopefully Bayley's will too, and find out the reason of it all.

I am so glad that you are taking Bayley in to see your vet.
This must be very uncomfortable for him.
It's critical that your vet find the reason for Bayley's symptoms.

You and you precious boy will be in my prayers until you get this sorted out.

Thanks all

We're headed to the vet in a little bit here. I sure didn't want to get out of bed, he came up and cuddled w/ me when my alarm went off and fell back asleep.... I could have stayed there all day!

Thanks for the well wishes!

I am one MAD cat lady!!

So we go into the vet this morning and I go see the tech first, and we looked at his paws, and his 'thumb' claw was extremely red and infected!
They had to remove it, and another one as well!!

He has a deep infection in 3 of his paws!!

$100 later- he's on an antibiodic for his claws, AND for his ears!!

And I also have to go and get some epson salt today and soak each of his paws in that and warm water twice a day.... yeah- he'll like that.

He's got extremely dirty ears and they don't know if that is caused from the infection, but when they removed his 2 claws, they were full of puss!!

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I don't mind paying to care for my animals, but I do believe that the HS SHOULD have caught something like this before we brought him home!!

At first they thought he had mites! But they didnt find anything, thank god, because then Harley would have been exposed adn we would have had to take him in as well.

This is JUST my luck!

Oh - and if the infection does NOT clear up, they will have to declaw him

I signed a wavier at the HS when we adopted him that we wouldn't declaw him, and I wasn't planning on it, so now I have to call them and tell them whats going on. I think its only fair that they would understand!

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear all that. It's a good thing he came home with you when he did so that someone responsible can look after him. As much as Humane Societies care about the animals, I think it's super easy for them to miss or overlook problems because they're so busy. No, I am NOT making excuses and it makes me extremely angry that the little ones they're trying to help are sometimes still left to suffer in pain.

As for declawing him- I'm sure that's nothing to get worried about yet. You still have other options and hopefully his infection will clear up and that's not a road you have to go down.

That sucks big time Kenz! Does this HS have a vet on staff?

I'm sorry, but I realize that our HS doesn't always catch everything, but really...claws falling off & infected has got to be kinda obvious!!!

Well what really makes me mad is the fact that it was ON his PAPERS!! So you would have thought they would have explored it a bit further.
I'm just glad he's home with us and getting treated correctly.

I'm not taking him to the vet at the HS, if they couldn't catch this in the beginning, who knows what else they haven't seen?

Im happy taking him to my vet, he's raelly looking out for Bayley and is very concerned for him.

Bayley is now on my lap, purring away and cuddled up, poor baby

Since we have to give him pills twice a day, how do I go along the lines of doing so without him barfing all over me?

Do you have one of those pill pushers?? Those work well as the pill goes back farther in the mouth. Otherwise if you have butter-put a bit on the pill-the moisture from the butter helps them swallow the pill plus I pet under throat to cause them to swallow. Hope this helps.

I don't have one of those, where can I get one? We have a pet store here in town, thats extremely over priced, but I suppose I could check there?
