    Should I Get Another Cat?

I have a cat, five year old girl, who I adore. She's very attached to me, we snuggle together every night, etc. There's a cat nearby whose owner is giving him up due to a move to a place that doesn't allow pets (I really think that's a lame excuse by the way). He's two years old, sounds like...

    Help With Hairballs

Thanks, that is a good point too. I do plan to ask the vet for guidance as well when I take my kitty in for her checkup in a couple of weeks.

    Help With Hairballs

Thanks for your helpful responses! Yes, I brush my kitty daily, and she's been on a raw diet for a couple of years now, so I don't suspect any dietary irritations. She's playful, she has a normal appetite and normal bowel movements, but we're stuck on this stubborn hairball problem. I'll start...

    Recently Moved; Weight Loss.

Weight loss in cats can indicate and/or cause serious health problems. I would strongly encourage taking Mew to the vet. If they suspect the problem is environmental stress, they should be able to suggest strategies to help Mew feel more at home.

    Help With Hairballs

My 4-year-old medium-haired cat has hairball issues. She throws up a hairball at least a couple of times a week. She already takes two Vet's Best Hairball Relief pills daily (total of 100mg psyllium husk, 50mg marshmallow root, 50mg slippery elm bark), and these reduce but do not eliminate her...

    Stealing Underwear??

Yep, my cat stole my mom's underwear when she visited. Awkward. Cats like to play with all sorts of weird objects, no matter how many toys they've got and even if you play with them regularly. Yours just happened to discover the joys of underwear. Mine goes for napkins, coasters, contact lens...

    Best canned food brand?

The notion that dry food does anything for oral hygiene is a myth. This is an article about dry dog food, but the same principle applies to cats. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/choosing-dog-food/dry-dog-food-cleaner-teeth/ There is no health reason to choose dry food over canned. On to...

    Wet food test went great

Good work on getting your kittens used to canned food. Canned is a better choice than dry. Cats have low thirst instinct; their bodies expect to obtain significant moisture content from their food. Therefore dry food causes dehydration and kidney problems. Best to phase out the dry food soon...

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

My cat likes to eat in smaller sittings throughout the day as well. My solution has been to increase her feedings from twice a day to four times a day. Now she eats what's put out within the hour most of the time. She's currently eating 50% raw mixed with 50% canned at each meal. Do your cats...

What does this behavior between these two cats mean?

My cat, Miss Chloe, came along with me when I visited family at my aunt's house for the holidays. She's 1.5 years old, extremely playful, an alpha personality, not a lot of experience with other cats. My aunt's cat, Willy, is a year old, pretty chilled out but still playful, can be skittish, no...

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

My business trip was cancelled, so I increased Miss Chloe's intake of raw to 1 oz today and decreased her canned food from 1 can to 3/4 to compensate. No problems at all getting her to eat it. She still won't eat the raw alone, but now she won't start eating the canned food until I've mixed the...

    Claw resistant blanket?

I have an old comforter on one side of my sectional couch that is the cat's play zone. She gets it all balled up and then hunts her wand toys through all the nooks and crannies. It's getting really ratty-looking, not that SHE minds :) But I'm wondering if anyone's found a material, or a...

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

Hmm, I never did try the FortiFlora trick. I'm still adjusting her really slowly. I'm going on a business trip next week, so I plan to hold off until I get back before doubling her raw intake to 1 oz. She's so darn picky that I figure I'll keep transitioning her at a glacial pace so she hardly...

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

No more serious poop incidents for a couple of days. I'm feeding her small meals 4x per day and sticking with the 1/2 oz total of raw. So far, so good. I plan to bump it up to 1 oz next week.

Do indoor cats really need vaccines?

The FVRCP vaccine is critical because it protects against panleukopenia, but I am against vaccinating every year, especially for indoor cats. My cat got her kitten vaccinations for FVRCP and rabies, and a booster at around a year old, and that's the last vaccine I intend to give her. She's an...

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

Let's talk poop. Last night, I was woken at 3:30am by the most awful smell emanating from the cat's litter box, which is located about as far as possible from my bed in my 650sq ft apartment. This cat's poop has always been really smelly -- the smelliest of any cat I've ever had -- but the vet...

    PLEASE Keep Cats Indoors

100% agreed on keeping cats indoors. From childhood onward, I've lost three cats, one hit by a car and two others eaten by local wildlife. Never again. In addition, cats are killers of local wildlife themselves, as an invasive species. Best to keep them inside and save the local bird population.

Advice on taking the plunge into raw?

Success! She'll eat the Primal Pronto raw "kibbles" if they are warmed in water and mixed with her canned food. I'm not mixing in much yet, just about 1/2 oz daily. I'll keep her on this amount for a couple of weeks and then ramp up further. I'm happy with Primal Pronto so far; it's great to...
