Autistic person, FIV+ cat: Raw feeding possible?

The Primal is freeze dried? Maybe I will try that as well as the Rad Cat, to see what Smokey likes. I'll add Fortiflora or Advita as a topper. Does feeding ground raw have enzymes which help keep teeth clean, or no? (I can't feed DIY raw) Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Autistic person, FIV+ cat: Raw feeding possible?

Columbine, thank you for the links on dental information. I will check those out! :) Finding a dental routine will help Smokey I think. I want him to stay well. Willowy, thank you, I will look into RedCat. I am (very) low-income,  however. But I'll go peek at their website. Thank you! Zed...

Autistic person, FIV+ cat: Raw feeding possible?

My cat Smokey is a sweet, mellow, loving grey fluffy FIV+ DLH from a cat shelter. He is indoors only, but I exercise him daily with interactive wand toys. I am autistic and live mainly independently with supports (caseworkers who help me on some errands, advocate for me with doctors or...

Cat suddenly spraying due to Marigolds?

Oh my, what a story about the oregano! :D I've removed the Marigolds for the sake of harmony. Smokey means the WORLD to me!! I'll do some research, and plant something more agreeable for him!

Cat suddenly spraying due to Marigolds?

Hi all! I have a *tiny* livingroom in a tiny apartment, with low windows open most of the time. Today I planted marigolds outside my windows. Tonight I think I might smell cat spray-- not outside, but here indoors! Smokey never sprays. He's neutered and 5 years old, and mellow. I just read...

Former stray purebred Birman suffering at cat lady's home

Goldy, thank you for your helpful suggestion. The neighbor moved away and is out of contact. I'm forwarding the link you offered. Thank you for your concern and your suggestions! Hopefully, he can find a suitable home through a purebred rescue. Thank you so much!

Former stray purebred Birman suffering at cat lady's home

Tank you, Tammy! I'll suggest just exactly that, so my friend can ring a local rescue/foster group as a resource. They may be best able to guide a new owner in helping the Birman settle into his new, more appropriate home Thank you!

Former stray purebred Birman suffering at cat lady's home

Whoops! I forgot to mention that he is indeed neutered. Thank you for your reply! I wonder if anyone has successfully gotten a cat to stop spraying by changing his home or situation? I supposed I should ask in the Behavior section, I'm simply trying to find a reasonable way to help rehome him...

Former stray purebred Birman suffering at cat lady's home

My friend started feeding neighborhood strays. One of the originals in the stray cat group is a Birman that a neighbor left behind. (neighbor said the cat was expensive to purchase, but left him when she moved) My friend allows several of the strays, including the Birman, to sleep indoors. As...

    Overgrooming: Alternative, therapeutic ideas?

Maybe a Feliway diffuser might help? I will give that a try! And flower essences, I'm not sure which ones might be best-- Rescue Remedy, perhaps? I wonder if any homeopathy may help? Thank you so very much for your input!

    Overgrooming: Alternative, therapeutic ideas?

Has anyone had success using alternative methods such as homeopathy, rawfood diet, etc. to help a cat who overgrooms due to stress?  Smokey is 3, a fluffy grey lion-like friendly DHL. He used to be indoor/outdoor, but for the next 6 months or so, he needs to live indoors in the small room we are...

Are there any *truly* unscented clumping litters?

You all have some really great ideas. Thank you! I was Googling and found the Premium Chice Carfree Kitty Unscented Clumping.. it was suggested here in this forum on another thread.  Has anyone tried that?  The World's Best seems costly, and if it's made out of corn.. my dog will likely want to...

Are there any *truly* unscented clumping litters?

Thank you for the ideas! Now I remember that the PetCo litter is unscented, and easy to get.  What about allergic cats-- I think my cat is likely allergic. I would avoid Feline Pine, but what about Yesterday's News? How does it work for your allergic cats? Anything not too dusty? Any other ideas...

Are there any *truly* unscented clumping litters?

Got a big box of Fresh Step Unscented .. and boy is it ever perfumed! I think my cat may be scent-sensitive. What brands might be better to use?

Overgrooming , should I let him outdoors?

Ondine, I love the enclosure idea, but unfortunately, I am staying at a friend's home right now, and that's not an option. Thank you for the idea though! Catspaw, YES! Microchipping is a super idea. I'll arrange for that at the vet's as well as getting him a break-away collar and tag with phone...

Overgrooming , should I let him outdoors?

Update: Friendly Gray Lion is home!  He was gone all of 1 and a half hours, 2 hours max. He was right in the yard, he likely didn't go far. He came immediately when called, as he usually did when outdoors at our last home! He always stayed near the house at our last home, too. Maybe a brief...

Overgrooming , should I let him outdoors?

Thank you Katluver for your input. He unfortunately slipped out when I went outdoors, and now I just need to try to breathe.  I'm anxious, but realize that this is what he likely needs. I may still decide to try (again) to keep him indoors, again trying the plug-in diffusers, his scratch tree...

Overgrooming , should I let him outdoors?

My 4 year old cat is compulsively overgrooming. He's either sleeping or licking.  He was an outdoor cat at our last home, but we're in an apartment now, and I am keeping him indoors-- although my housemate's cats are indoor/outdoor, and my cat is thankfully very road-savvy. When I got my...

It's that time of year again... What NOT to use on your cats and why

Thank you for bringing this topic up! I've a cat with allergies/sensitivities, who unfortunately may not be able to tolerate any flea preventative. (Revolution makes him yank his fur out to bald, exposed bare skin, itch franticly, and gnaw/lick red, open ulcers into his skin, all which lasts for...
