    nail injury : (

The vet wants me to dip her toe in a bath of betadine for FIVE minutes twice a day.  Ha!  That lasted about 2 seconds.  What cat would let you hold them for FIVE minutes while you dip their sensitive injured paw into a bowl?!  Not mine!  I may take the collar off soon. It's just making her...

    nail injury : (

Update:  Took her in.  Nothing broken and no infection.  But it's very inflamed.  He cut off the rest of the nail that was hanging there (she was NOT happy about that!)  Soaked it in betadine and told me to continue to do so at home.  Also gave her a collar so she won't lick it.  Poor Miko.....

    nail injury : (

On closer inspection it looks like the bone in that toe is also very swollen, in addition to the quick.  I wonder if it could be broken or fractured or just bruised.  The weird thing is she walks on it just fine!  Even continues to climb the cat tree.  But I can tell it's sensitive if I try and...

    nail injury : (

Poor Miko fell off her cat tree the other day! This was Friday night. She landed on her feet and is walking around fine, the only injury seems to be a nail she injured on the tumble down. She may have already lost part of the nail and the rest of it seems damaged and like it might be loose...

New baby coming - should we continue to let cats sleep with us?!

I'm due with our first baby in Dec () At the moment we let all 4 cats have free range in the bedroom.  (we keep the door open so they can come in and out) I plan to have the baby sleep by my bed in a bassinet or rock n' play sleeper.  I'm a little worried about the kitties jumping up and...

    Severe stomatitis....any hope?

All my maine coons have struggled with this on and off.  I think it's genetic for them.  They've all been treated at different times, ruled out for infections, given different antibiotics and we've discussed extractions, but never went through with it.   Samson is 5 years old and his totally...

100% w/d wet food MAY have cured Georgia

Georgia has had chronic loose stools for years. She's been checked out the vet and given a prescription for w/d wet food that we mixed in with her fancy feast and a probiotic. We also switched to Taste of the Wild kibble since I know it's a good quality kibble. Well that was months ago and no...

    diet suggestions for possible IBS

Hmm, interesting.  Do you make your own or get the commercial frozen raw food? Also, I forgot to mention the vet also gave her probiotics. It seemed like for a couple days she was free of loose stools, but then had one today that was semi solid...  So maybe starting to improve?

    diet suggestions for possible IBS

Georgia has had chronic loose stools for as long as we've had her. After going to the vet and ruling out parasites and diseases, we've decided she may just have IBS. We've already switched over to Taste of the Wild kibble, which alone hasn't helped. We also used to feed all the cats fancy...

trying to get to the bottom of Georgia's issues...

Georgia has had chronic loose stools since we got her (retired from a breeder at age 3 about a year ago). We thought maybe she was just adjusting to her new home and new diet, but it never went away. We tried pumpkin and switching to Taste of the Wild kibble. (She also gets fancy feast wet...

    diarrhea outside the litterbox....

Georgia has had chronic loose stools pretty much since we've had her. We've tried pumpkin in her wet food and grain free kibble (Taste of the Wild) and nothing has worked! I'm going to take her back to the vet and see if there's anything they can do. But the very weird part is my husband is...

    suspicious kitties

Thanks!  It's too bad I didn't catch it on video when Miko first saw it. She jumped up in the air! So funny....

    suspicious kitties

I got a kitty bank as a stocking stuffer.  It makes a meow noise and a cat paw pops out and takes your coin inside. The cats get VERY curious when I play it.  They're trying to figure out where the kitty is hiding!

I hate being mad at my cat for being a cat....

But sometimes it's so frustrating that you just can't have nice things around cats! We have an antique sideboard that Sebastian LOVES to climb.  We knew it was not that stable and try to keep him off it. But tonight the whole top part just snapped off taking Sebastian and 2 glass candlesticks...
