Fruit mince pies. Sweet short crust pastry filled with minced fruit. I will eat ANYTHING but they are one thing I just don't like. I love the pastry but I can't stand the filling. Each year they are everywhere so other people must love them but I don't know anyone who likes them. Do you like them?

I'm hungry for a coconut cream pie. With lots and lots of shredded and toasted coconut in the cream filling and loaded on top.

Tammat, what all is in them? My mom used to make something similar, but hers was filled with mincemeat and I didn't care for that at all. If it's just minced fruit, they might be OK.

Vol au vents. Flaky pastry shells. You can fill them with all sorts. Chicken and asparagus, tuna, vegetables. Mostly with cream sauces. The photo is of large cases but you can also get small ones for canapés/ finger food.

Fruit pie filling is minced dried fruit. The flavour is very strong of mixed peel. That's what I don't like. I love fruit cake and plum pudding. It's probably a good thing I don't like them lol!! One less temptation!!

Puppa Cu Ova - my Sicilian grandmother used to make these each Easter for her grandchildren (and I believe made them for her children when they were growing up).  It's a baked dough "basket" with criss-crosses of dough that hold hardboiled eggs, and is frosted with a  confectionary sugar based frosting.

I've never attempted this one..lol, but believe one of my cousins still makes them (and good for him!).

Krémes, i.e. Hungarian custard cream slices.

It's been an uneventful day. I did manage to get a Christmas package made up and sent overseas, so hopefully it'll be there by mid-December. Also picked up some batteries for the cordless Christmas tree lights, though I might use rechargeable ones again.

JCAT ~ that link you posted is such an amazingly mouth-watering & gorgeous Hungarian cookbook site…. YUMMMMM

Here's one from Japan that most people here may never have heard of ~

たい焼き (tai-yaki) is a fish-shaped pastry with a sweet azuki bean filling. It's a popular festival food. Delish! :)

I had a sour cream glazed doughnut this morning after my neurologist appt. Came back into work and one of my coworkers brought in doughnuts. And he specifically saved that one for me bc he knows how much I love them. I had to eat it....I just had to at that point.

Chocolate Bundles - a recipe from Pepperidge Farm that was published in a magazine.  Recipe below:

2: on a lightly floured surface, roll pastry to a 12 inch square, cut into four 6-inch squares.
3: In the center of each square, place 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips and 1 tbsp. chopped walnuts.
4: bring pastry corners together just above the chocolate, twist and turn, Fan out corners.
5: Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.  Let stand at least 10 minutes.

Ki Lime Pie, has anyone thought of that yet?  My SiL makes fabulous ones and it doesn't matter how full I am I always have to eat a bit , then feel like it could be one of those horrible 'Just one more waffeur theen meent' moments from Monty Python...

Beignets, those delicious little treats served at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.  I hope my spelling is correct.

Banana Doughnuts like I just had this week at a local Argentinian steak house.  They looked like doughnut holes and were served with a crème anglaise and a caramel sauce - you could choose which to dip your little doughnut into, or skip the sauces :)  They were delightful.

Pat, thank you so much for posting this!  My (Sicilian) Mom used to make the same thing.  I never knew it had a name.  We LOVED these at Easter!
