Just cu4rious....why is the clumping litter a poblem for hybrid cats????

They tend to eat anything. Like: paper, plastic, fabric and cat litter. Yes, cat litter. Since, clumping litter, well clumps, it can kill the the cat. Since, clumping  cat litter, turns to "cement" when wet, it can cut off the animals airway. In other cases, it messes up, quite servery, the animals stomach and or intestines. Curiosity is good, in my humble opinion. So, PLEASE, ask questions
.

 What kind of hybrid??

The above information is for any foundation (F1-F4) hybrid (Bengal, Chausie, Savannah and Safari) cat. In my case, it was both my F1 Bengal Taro and F3 Savannah Loki. They are both gone now
.

P.s. The above holds true, for, pure exotics like Servals, Caracals, Asian Leopard Cats, Geoffrey Cats and such.

I use Arm & Hammer Multiple Cats, though I only have one cat per litter box. Minja, who eats junk food (Friskies, Meow Mix, Whiskas) and won't touch raw has one ball and one or two poops daily. Hershey Rose, who eats nothing but raw, has enough waste in her box for 3 cats on a daily basis. While cats who eat raw have non-stinky poop, I find the multiple litter to help a lot because she has an igloo shaped potty and loves to peepee on the sides of the round bottom. The litter has a very light pleasant odor.

I have three boys. One decided to tell me which cat litter he likes and its the Arm & Hammer Super Scoop Fragrance Free. I once tried a different fragrance free clumping litter when the store was out of A&H, but he started going outside the box. Went back to A&H, and he was back in the box. But this cat also does not like change and notices everything. IMO, the A&H can get a little dusty, but that's better than the cat going outside the box. He has me trained.

Our Squeaky has a definite favorite - Cat's Pride Premium litter.  We tried other litters with him when we thought he had an allergy to it, but he clearly refused to use those other brands.  When we returned to the Cat's Pride he started using his box again.  He also likes to dig and he prefers a finer litter.  He also has this quirk - he uses the box, then runs like heck out of it!

I use the cheapest non-scented clumping litter.  My cats hate fragrance smell and I hate urine smell.   I found this pad through Breathe Free Litterbox Mate and I put it underneath the litter and my cats love using their box. And I love having no smell for 30 days using it.  Really Awesome!

Have any of you used the plastic liners that go under the litter, you just peel off one layer of liner, sift the litter through the wholes, and throw away the mess? I've been wondering if they really work all that great. seems like the liquids might run through all 10 layers?

I have heard that plastic liners don't work well for a variety of reasons. If you are interested in a liner, check out otto's thread on formed liners. Her experiment was pretty extensive, and she came up with a solution she loves.

My favourite is Wee Kitty, it's ok for flushing or mulching and smells nice! It's not too heavy and clumps pretty well.

I use A&H double duty for Rosie, I wish I could use feline pine though. I used it with a cat I fostered for awhile and she loved it, but I can't seem to get Rosie to use it. I think its because it doesn't clump and its a whole different texture but I wanna try something else because the litter we use now has a funny smell after she uses her box that stinks up my bathroom
any suggestions??

Searched for Wee Kitty.....never heard of it.....then I figured out you are in Australia.  Love the package.

I have been using the Arm & Hammer corn with great results.  I get World Best anytime it is on sale tho....can't beat it for clumping.  I am pretty much hooked on the corn litters for environmental reasons, as well as weight and odor control.  I was buying the multi cat varieties (more expensive), but then discovered that the 3 cats are fine with the regular variety when I picked it up by mistake.  I didn't see any difference, and neither did they.

hello everyone...when i had four pussycats to share my home plus one sweet lab, i used to use the fresh step non clumping and was happy with it for many years. i always used a box liner and everything was sweet smelling.  then a friend suggested luvs litter, which was sent only by mail and it was an expensive pine variety.  then i tried feline pine which was terrific until i then tried my all time favorite...exquisicat pine pellets from pet smart. love it!!!

Good luck with whatever you try. I can't tell you how many "natural" types of litter I've gone through. I always end up back with the clumping clay litter in a coarse sandy texture because that's what all the kitties like. When I get something new I'll put it in one litter box and keep the others the same as I've been using. I found that with World's Best and Feline Pine there wasn't even a single kitty pawprint in the the box after a month. I've seen them sniff at it and just walk away.
My Pepe kitty is the same way!  Regardless of what I try, he only likes the clumping clay litter.

I'm in Australia and with my cats in a unit I use OZ pet litter it is pine pellets that break down into soil type product, it is advertised as "stop the pee pong" and it really does work. I do kitten foster too and it seems to suit them as well as the grown cats too which helps and the kittens dont eat it like they used to try to do with the clay products but they do enjoy chasing the pellets around!.

I tried a pellet type litter at one point.  All three cats thought it was okay to chase the pellets....but totally unacceptable to pee or poop on.

HarleyDiva, your cats are such characters!

I feel fortunate that Aria will use pine pellets because I love that litter. She was pretty suspicious of it but adapted quickly.

You definitely want to use a non-clumping litter for the kitten. It's also best to use non-clumping for mama cat while baby is being trained. For some reason kittens seem to think it's okay to use the big-cat boxes instead of the little ones you put out for them. :nono:
