so many foods coming from the grocery stores are overly sweet, imo. with the carrot cake i make i have never frosted them. sometimes i'll dust a cake with powdered sugar, instead of frosting it. i like sweet, but some things don't need more sweet.
A sweet desert I can halfway take, but an entree??  Not so much.

Had dinner at a buffet restaurant tonight since I went to the mainland to get a new ceiling fan for my new place.  There's no ceiling fan in the master and I HAVE to have a fan to sleep.  Dinner was really good, especially the collard greens.  Those had bone boiled in...mmmmm!

true! i don't mind a little sweet in an entree, but i agree that too sweet in an entree doesn't taste good.

i live in new york state up close to lake ontario, and i need a fan to sleep at night during the summer too. it's not hot at night, but it gets stuffy.

Last night I ordered in.
Spicy corn soups - delicious
Tampura shrimps - lovely
I also got something called yakisoba
A load of veggies with shrimpsia teriyaki sauce on rice.
That I'll have tonight.

oh Canada~
I loooooove yakisoba!!

It's my boyfriend's birthday, so he's cooking both meals LOL (I made a cake, but he's taken initiative because he really wanted hash browns when we didn't have potatoes.. went out and bought some).

I believe we are having baked French onion soup tonight. And the other half of the cake for dessert.

It wasn't very nice. It had 4 shrimps, a lot of onion - yii much onion - cabbage a bit of other veggies and rice. It was so tasteless I had to add soy sauce. Very disappointed.

I'm thinking of the spaghetti that we didn't have last week. Tonight is Tuesday, but since Rick wasn't home for dinner last night, we will have Meatless Tuesday this week....he can't get off that easily.

I made butter chicken for the first time, got a recipe from the internet. Didn't have fresh ginger or tomato puree, so I put ground ginger in there and used tomato paste thinned down with water. Had steamed rice and cucumber salad with it, yum!

Leftovers...again. Most Sundays, I cook and deliver dinner to my 80+ yo parents. They won't eat 90% of what I typically cook (too healthy). Nor will they touch any cultural foods (Italian, Chinese, Mexican, etc.) except Southern (US) and I refuse to fry! My cats can't even compete with my parents on the picky scale, bless their hearts.

Pinto beans (with fatback, of course) (all day simmer), baby red and fingerling potatoes, buttermilk cornbread, and the Rempel Family meatloaf from allrecipes.com (I substitute chopped whole onion for dry onion soup, double ketchup and add 2 T. of Jack Daniels BBQ sauce). And of course, cantaloupe, blueberries, raw tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden.

If you need a new meatloaf recipe, try that one. Over 2000 reviews, 4.5 of 5 stars. Yum!

I made and ate a chicken and potato curry served with corn kernels. It was delicious.

Hope that is okay now.

La Choy chicken chow mein was our dinner last night. We went for a few groceries, Rick saw the cans and well, he loves the stuff. Usually he makes it for himself when I'm not going to be home for dinner, but he was really, REALLY hungry for it last night. So.... that was dinner. He had it with noodles; I had mine without. I don't care for it at all.

Tonight is grilled ham with grilled yellow squash boats. I cut the squash in half and remove the seeds with a spoon. Mix bread crumbs with chopped tomatoes, basil and oregano and just a little shredded cheese. Throw them on the grill until the squash is done and the cheese is melted. They're not bad and....have I mentioned that we have a TON of zucchini and yellow squash?! (I went up to the garden last night and took seven yellow squash and 3 zucchini and 3 nice green peppers.
I don't know what to do with it all!)
