One of the Christmas cards I got these year had the lyrics to "My Favorite Things" repurposed for cat life -- something like:
"Couches and love seats with claw marks and scratches / Carpets and blankets with big urine patches / Sweaters and t-shirts torn up to strings / These WERE a few of my favorite things!"
And of course, pictures of cats singing the song lol.
It turned out to be appropriate, because I came home on Dec. 23 and found my guitar on the floor. My beloved, midnight-blue Les Paul. And the neck of the guitar ended with no headstock.
At first I'm like, "That looks weird..." And then I took a closer look and, sure enough, the neck of the guitar was snapped right below the headstock. LJ (short for 'Little Jerk,' which is what I call Buddy sometimes when he gets bratty) must have knocked it down, and the guitar must have landed on the headstock itself for it to break like that.
So the tally, in 2 1/2 years, is this:
- A heavy mirror with a wood frame, pulled down off the wall by Bud when he was a kitten. I still can't comprehend the physics of that act.
- My leather office chair, which is now more of a claw-textured office chair.
- The screen door leading to my balcony, which I now have to physically obstruct with a piece of wood so Bud can't claw it more than he has, or continue using it as a scratcher.
- Several plants
- Several Christmas ornaments
- My keyboard synthesizer, which is now missing several knobs.
- My remote controls, all of which now have little cat's teeth gauges in them.
- My Les Paul
So...what are your casualties of having a cat? Furniture, collectibles, household items, parts of your house or apartment itself, bedding, personal items, musical instruments, clothing...what has your little rascal destroyed?
