I got some free samples of:
Karma soap, Sonic Death Monkey (great for chocolate lovers!), Tramp and Skin Sin!

I should be using them!

sexy peel is my favorite thing ever!!! it makes me happy!!
thanks for the recommendation- i will have to try karma now!!
I'm trying to decide between ordering Karma Komba or Seanick (i'm thinking seanick sounds good) for my upcomming order. Have you tried seanick? i'm wondering which is the better of the two as far as detangling/defrizzing?

I have tried Seanick, it doesn't have much of a smell but it is lovely on the hair.

Wow, I looked up some of the chemicals I listed in an earlier post. I knew some of them were bad, but not how bad. Not sure if anyone is that interested though. The chemicals listed are in various Lush products as well as most common soaps.

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
eye, skin, and respiratory irritant
http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/si...+@rn+2235-54-3

Sodium dodecyl sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate
same as above, can cause skin issues and even canker sores
http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/si...m+@rn+151-21-3

Sodium Stearate
http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/si...m+@rn+822-16-2

Propylene Glycol
lots of stuff on http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/si...rm+@rn+57-55-6

Glycerine - not toxic but...
"On May 4, 2007, the US Food and Drug Administration advised all US makers of medicines to test all batches of glycerine for the toxic diethylene glycol.

This follows an occurance of 100 fatal poisonings in Panama resulting from a Chinese factory deliberately falsifying records in order to export the cheaper diethylene glycol as the more expensive glycerine." Wow, not that anyone would find that too surprising...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerine

Kind of interesting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._3_carcinogens

Easy to look up chemicals on.

The Dr. Bronner's stuff that sharky linked too looks interesting. I wonder if, depending on ingredients - ie no tea tree oil, some of the soaps would be ok for washing cats too.

I use unscented glycerin soap. Boring, yes, but it's better than the excitement of contact dermatitis and asthma.

p.s. I used to love tea tree soap, but can't use it any more. It irritates my skin like crazy.

Most glycerine is manufatured from petroleum products. The clear glycerine soaps on the market are pretty, but, not healthy. Natural glycerine is the by-product from natural handmade soap (lye and fats). Glycerine is also taken out of the soaps on the market made by big manufacturing companies (that's why so many have sensitive skin and dry skin) and they sell it to the pharmaceutical companies (cream rinse, shampoo, medicines) and weapons industry for making bombs.

So... is it good? Is it bad? I'm confused. All I know is that it's one of two soaps that doesn't irritate my skin.

Is it a clear bar, one that you can see through? If yes, then it's not good because it has petro based glycerine.

Do a search using 'unscented lye soap' or 'unscented natural soap' or 'handmade soap' or homemade soap' and this will give you an idea of what I am talking about. Many people sell their handmade soaps online and they will give an explaination of what soap is REALLY ABOUT.

The BEST soap is made by using fats and lye. Usually health food stores carry handmade soap, Burt Bees comes to mind, but, I would rather buy from a farmers market or make my own.

Drat. Now what?

Can anyone recommend a soap for super-sensitive skin? It can't have any kind of mint in it. I wish I could find Kiss My Face unscented here.

Is it difficult to make your own soap?

Thanks for the heads-up BTW!

I can't bring myself to recommend Dove, but, that's what most soapmakers used before.

Do you have a health/herb store nearby? They usually carry handmade soap.

Most soapmakers read and study before attempting to make soap, I read for two years before I did it.

Making your own soap is very hazardous as lye is very caustic, it must be done without pets/children around and goggles must be worn.

Here is some info, read, read, read first before attempting to make soap.

http://www.soapdishforum.com/forum/--forum

http://www.soapdelicatessen.com/soap...ocess/-recipes

http://www.geocities.com/blueaspenor...CP_how_to.html --- how it's done

You can make a very simple soap with just lye, fats and water, no need to add anything else.

Not all Lush products have the same ingredients in them that you've listed- some do, sls comes to mind for a few, but not all of them do
. You have to look through them individually.

I have a scar around my wrists and up my forearm as testament to the hazards of lye. When I was about 3 yrs old, I stuck my hand into a pot of lye on my grandmother's stove. I was wearing one of those little long-sleeved shirts with the ribbing around the cuffs. Mom didn't know it happened until she went to undress me and my skin peeled off with the ribbing of the shirt. Told ya I was a quiet kid
I didn't freak out until my mom freaked out
